Over 10,000 school supplies distributed to Wisconsin Rapids-area students
WISCONSIN RAPIDS − More than 10,000 school supplies were donated to students in the Wisconsin Rapids area this month. The donations were collected during the Stuff the Bus event on Aug. 7, according to an announcement from the United Way of South Wood & Adams Counties. The supplies were distributed to 750 student Aug. 15-16 during the Stuff the Desk event. Of those students, 95% qualified for free or reduced school meals.
A total of 91 volunteers assisted with the collection, setup, pre-packing and distribution of the supplies. Items collected included 365 backpacks, 535 boxes of colored pencils, 2,078 pens, 1,973 folders, 1,538 glue sticks, 1,404 notebooks, 430 scissors, 99 rulers and 397 boxes of markers.
The Stuff the Bus Committee expressed gratitude to the volunteers, organizations that held supply drives and individuals who donated supplies or money.
The initiative aims to ensure that students have the necessary supplies to start the school year successfully. The community's efforts have provided essential resources to students in need, helping them begin the academic year prepared.
