Radhotsavam of Sri Jagannadha Swamy to begin on June 27
The annual Radhotsavam of the temple of Sri Jagannadha Swamy in Old Town, will commence from the temple, located at Town Kotha Road, at 4 p.m. on June 27.
Temple Executive Officer T. Rajagopal Reddy on Tuesday said, 'The yatra will commence on Jyeshta Chathurdasi and the return yatra would be held on July 7. The Rath Yatra will be flagged off by Visakhapatnam South MLA Ch. Vamsikrishna Srinivas. Special pujas will be performed to the deity on Tuesday and Wednesday. On June 26 morning, 'purnahuti' will be performed and later in the evening Dwajarohanam and Subhadra Devi Kalynam will be performed.'
Sri Jagannadha Swamy will be mounted on the chariot at 9.20 a.m. on June 27 and the same evening at 5 p.m. the deity will be taken in a chariot accompanied by traditional music and devotional chants by devotees, to the Turner's Choultry near Super Bazaar. The deity will give darshan to his devotees at the Choultry from June 28 to July 6, appearing in different avatars each day.
The EO said that in addition to free darshan, devotees can avail special darshan for ₹20, quick darshan for ₹50 and 'visishta's darshan for ₹200. All arrangements have been made to ensure the smooth conduct of the festival. Free buttermilk and water will be provided to devotees in queues, and milk and biscuits will be given to children. He said that around ₹40 lakhs is being spent to conduct the festival. Revenue generated during the annual festival last year was ₹65 lakh.
Temple priests Panangipalli Jagannadhacharyulu, Ranganadhacharyulu and Edida Surest Babu were present.
