Dharali cloudburst: Rain stalls rescue ops, bodies feared trapped 50-feet deep
Heavy rains continue to disrupt search operations in devastation-hit Dharali, Uttarakhand, where many people are still missing and feared dead. The biggest challenge for rescuers is to locate those possibly trapped under debris, some buried 40–50 feet above what was once Dharali village and its bustling market. With route connectivity broken, heavy machinery and resources for excavation and restoration remain TOOLS ASSIST RESCUERS IN SEARCH AMID HEAVY RAIN Despite the odds, agencies are deploying advanced technology to aid in recovery. The NDRF, SDRF and the Army have brought in sophisticated equipment such as victim detection cameras, rescue radars, ground-penetrating radars (GPR) and thermal imaging drones. Sniffer dogs have been deployed to locate survivors or bodies, even in extremely narrow passages within collapsed structures buried under mud and SDRF Commandant Arpan Yaduvanshi said, 'We are searching every possible structure to recover the dead bodies of missing people by using all available resources.' The Indian Army is using sniffer dogs and thermal scanners in search of nine missing jawans trapped in the mud at the Harshil Army camp. Moisture and the thickness of the mud remain major obstacles in detecting the teams are using GPR to scan beneath the mud for possible structures and even bone remains, along with rescue radars to detect breathing or movement. Live Detector 3 devices have also been deployed to monitor any motion beneath the debris during the crucial 'golden hours' — the first few hours after a disaster when survival chances are Commandant Sudesh, operational in charge at Dharali, said these technologies are 'very efficient and capable during the golden hours, where the possibility of finding people alive and moving is much higher.'FRESH RAIN COMPLICATES THE SITUATIONThe turbulent weather is repeatedly disrupting both search and restoration efforts in Dharali. The already lost golden hours, combined with relentless downpours, have made the search for missing persons even more challenging. The thick mud has washed away the entire Dharali village and market, leaving rescuers to work in extremely difficult MACHINES, NO WORKFORCE DUE TO RAINDue to poor road connectivity and continuous rainfall, there is a shortage of heavy machinery and manpower on the ground. Harshil and Dharali remain cut off from Uttarkashi by CORRIDOR PROVIDES CRITICAL LIFELINETo bypass the damaged routes, the Army and Air Force have established an air passage and corridor between Uttarkashi and Harshil. This is playing a crucial role in supplying logistics and evacuating stranded people from the affected areas.- EndsMust Watch

Sudesh Lehri Says He Is 'Illiterate', Had No Money Growing Up: 'Used To Work For Pennies'
However, even when he didn't have much money, he still believed in spending it and enjoying life. Actor and comedian Sudesh Lehri grew up poor and didn't have enough money to go to school. In a chat with Aman Aujla, Sudesh recalled not having enough money to receive an education. Sudesh called himself illiterate and said he couldn't even read signboards. However, even when he didnt have much money, he still believed in spending it and enjoying life. 'I was 17 when I got married. My wife was 15. We had no idea what we were doing. When we had kids, we didn't know what to do. There was no money. Everything was makeshift. We couldn't afford hospital fees either," he said. Sudesh added, 'I'm uneducated. I'm illiterate. I never went to school, not even nursery or kindergarten. I've never been inside a school. We didn't have the money. I used to work for pennies at shops. I worked as a mechanic. I couldn't even read signboards. But I knew I wanted to become an actor. I couldn't read, but I could memorise lines." He recalled, 'I believe in spending money. Money is of no use if it's lying in your account. I remember when I was a kid in Amritsar, we didn't have money to buy firecrackers or sweets on Diwali. I asked how much we have, and they said we had Rs 100. I thought that was a lot, because you're not going to eat 2 kgs of sweets by yourself, are you? I bought sweets for Rs 50, and then a couple of candles. We had the best Diwali. I took everyone to our roof, and told them to imagine that our neighbours were our servants. They were lighting firecrackers at our command, because we didn't want to get our hands dirty. I told them to use their imagination." 'I believe in spending money. My first car was a second-hand Indigo, and I had so much fun with it. Then, there was a time when I had five houses in Mumbai," he said. Sudesh also mentioned that his son asks him to buy designer clothes. 'I don't even understand the appeal, but he likes it, and eventually he's the one who ends up wearing my Gucci shoes," Sudesh said. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Pati Patni Panga: Sudesh Lehri about teaming up with wife Mamta; says 'I may be the one people know, but she's the one who kept our home, our kids, and our love steady'
After four decades of love, laughter, and life's unexpected turns, Sudesh Lehri and his wife, Mamta, are stepping into an all-new chapter - this time, in front of the camera. 'Pati Patni Aur Panga- Jodiyon Ka Reality Check', a new reality show that throws celebrity couples into a cocktail of chaos, chemistry, and connection, it was Sudesh and Mamta's story that instantly stole the spotlight. A ringside view into the quirks, quiet struggles, and unseen joys of marriage, and who better than these old-school lovers, whose love story began when Mamta ji was just 15 and Sudesh ji, 17. In a world of dating apps and compatibility tests, their shaadi was sealed in hours, thanks to a spur-of-the-moment family decision. From becoming young parents to weathering life's many storms, they've lived the full spectrum of marriage and now, they're ready to compete with six other celebrity jodis in tasks that will test their bond in the most unexpected ways. But nothing quite prepared Sudesh for the moment Mamta walked into the set, dancing her heart out to Billo Rani and owning the stage in her television debut. *Sharing his thoughts about his wife's television debut, Sudesh Lehri says, "Our marriage happened in the most unexpected way, spontaneous, unplanned, and within just a couple of hours. But even after all these years, I can say one thing for sure: the bond we have built is forever. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Freehold Apartments in Dubai Starting from AED 675K Binghatti Developers FZE Explore Undo Mamta has been by my side through it all, when I had nothing, and even when I had it all, through the hardest struggles and the biggest wins. She's been my strength, my support, and the calm in my chaos. I often say this jokingly, but I mean it with all my heart, if I get to live another life, I'd want to marry someone exactly like her again. Maybe even the same as her, if I'm lucky enough. I may be the one people know, but she's the one who kept our home, our kids, and our love steady while I chased a career in comedy. Seeing her walk in dancing, owning the moment - that moved me. Joining the show felt like a marriage all over again. I also want to thank the channel for giving her this moment through Pati Patni Aur Panga. It's her first time being on TV, and it means a lot, not just to her, but to me too. She truly deserves this spotlight. And to all the fans who've given me so much love over the years, I hope you'll shower the same love on Mamta too.' Mamta Lehri adds, 'Walking onto that set, hearing the cheers, dancing to Billo Rani for my entry in the show was a celebration of everything Sudesh ji and I have built together. For decades, we have stood by each other, and we've done it with pride and love. Watching him light up the world with laughter has always been my joy. But sharing the stage with him felt like the missing piece falling into place. This is our journey coming full circle. "

Death By Drowning: Turning Tears Into Winds Of Change
New Delhi: Advaitha Verma drowned in Pawna Lake in Lonavala, Maharashtra, on June 23 last year. The 18-year-old's death became a turning point for his parents, Sudesh Verma and Renu Kaul Verma, who chose to transform their grief into a mission to educate people and spread awareness about how to prevent drowning to save lives. They are launching a nationwide online Drowning Prevention Awareness Campaign on Friday. July 25 is officially recognised by the United Nations as World Drowning Prevention Day. Advaitha's mother recalled her son and his friends going for a picnic to Pawna Dam where he died. "There were no safety measures like lifeguards or signboards, and I lost my child in an untimely manner," said Renu. "The pain will remain forever, but now we have decided to launch a campaign to save people's lives, especially children, from drowning because life is precious." The teenager was a music prodigy and the Vermas will appropriately employ music to reach out to the masses. 'Advaitha – The Symphony Music Award 2025', a national singing contest that combines passion with purpose, will be held at New Delhi in Sept, with entries for the competition being accepted till Aug 15. Sudesh and Renu were emphatic that drowning was preventable and awareness about this could save lives. That is why they aim to warn, educate and inspire a national awakening around water safety to ensure that no more dreams are lost to silent waters. "With every drowning, our society must rise like a symphony – not in silence, but in solidarity," said Sudesh. In Delhi, according to govt data, 211 drowning cases were logged last year in which 118 lives were lost and 66 rescued. In the first six months of this year, 102 people have lost their lives to drowning. Harish, who is in charge of a 15-member team of divers in north Delhi involved in rescue operations, said that in many cases they found children went to bathe and drowned due to riverine tides. Others, he said, died because they ventured into waters for bathing without knowing how to swim. There are cases also of people dying while saving others. The city also saw deaths in swimming pools. One of the cases was reported last month in which a six-year-old boy allegedly drowned in a swimming pool at an MCD community centre in northwest Delhi's Pitampura. His family alleged that there were no safety measures in place at the pool. According to the World Health Organization, at least three million people have drowned to death in the last decade. Last year, it listed drowning as the fourth leading cause of death for children aged 1-4 years and the third for children aged 5-14 years. WHO says 92% of drowning deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries.
