Vishnu Sudheendra from the National Law School of India University (NLSIU) spoke about the role of legal awareness in addressing systemic social issues, during a lecture at the Bengaluru City University on Wednesday. The lecture, titled 'A Path Illuminated by Justice: Legal Awareness for Social Change', focused on the practical application of legal literacy in tackling child marriage, domestic violence, and workplace harassment. Mr. Sudheendra called for mandatory internal committees in organisations to address sexual harassment and encouraged voluntary groups to facilitate access to free legal aid. He underscored legal literacy as essential for protecting fundamental rights and ensuring juvenile justice. Sangappa Vaggara, assistant professor, Department of Social Work, said that legal awareness is necessary for understanding and engaging with the justice system, not only for professionals but also for the general public.

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 30 (ANI): In a landmark collaboration, the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) Bengaluru South Officers, Karnataka State Bioenergy Development Board (KSBDB) under Chairman S E Sudheendra, and Hasirotsava Forum on Monday launched 'Hasiru Sankalpa' (Green Resolve). The initiative merges ground-level action with strategic policy to highlight Karnataka's leadership in sustainable and bioenergy transition, a press release said. Over 150 electric vehicle (EV) owners, environmental activists, and citizens kicked off the initiative with a vibrant rally from Nexus Vega City Mall to Hulimavu Lake. The rally underscored the state's commitment to electric mobility as a critical pillar of its clean energy strategy, reducing urban emissions and fossil fuel dependency. At Hulimavu Lake, Sudheendra, alongside Satish Reddy (MLA, Bommanahalli), led a mass plantation drive targeting biofuel-linked species. The drive emphasised engaging youth in ecological restoration, directly supporting KSPCB and KSBDB's joint mission to scale sustainable biomass supply chains. In his keynote address, the KSBDB Chairman outlined a comprehensive roadmap to emphasise Karnataka's leadership in renewable energy. Future key strategic pillars unveiled: Focus Crops: Non-edible oil seeds (Honge, Neem, Hippe, Simarouba) for biodiesel production with the goal to create farmer-centric supply chains for energy security and rural prosperity. Biomass Industrialisation: Scaling production of biobriquettes, biopellets, and biochar to replace coal in factories. Gaseous Fuel Revolution: State-backed push for Compressed Biogas (CBG) plants and pilot projects for green hydrogen. Sudheendra announced full support from Karnataka's highest offices. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah directly mandated KSBDB to accelerate statewide bioenergy deployment. Forest Minister Ishwar Khandre committed to three crore tree plantations with emphasis on biofuel species, linking ecology to energy. RDPR Minister Priyank Kharge said, 'Integrating bioenergy solutions across all 6,000+ Gram Panchayats for decentralised energy access.' The event featured resounding endorsements from cross-sector leaders. Ashok Kumar (KSPCB) said, 'Bangalore South 'Pollution control begins with clean energy. KSPCB stands with KSBDB to enforce this transition.' Pandiyan Biocon Biologicals said, 'Go Green, Create Environment awareness at the grassroots level.' Sreehari Kolar (Entrepreneur and Environmental Activist) praised the state's 'farm-to-fuel' model for empowering rural communities. Hasirotsava Forum (Aarthi, Shanmuga Anand): Mobilised citizen networks for ground-level execution. Divya (Urban Environment Activist) said the need of the hour to create awareness for urban contribution in sustainable energy, enrich oxygen with greenery. Chairman of the Karnataka Bio-Energy Development Board S.E. Sudheendra on Friday said that the action plan for the proposed New Bio-Energy Policy is currently being formulated. Presiding over the 42nd Executive Committee Meeting of the board, he said steps will be taken shortly to implement the policy. Mr. Sudheendra also emphasised that measures are being taken to increase the use of bio-energy across the state to foster an environmentally friendly ecosystem. A comprehensive action plan is being prepared to implement the new policy, which aims to ensure that bio-energy becomes a priority for everyone in the coming days, he said. The Annual Report for the year 2024–25 was also presented during the meeting. Executive Committee member Krishnan gave a detailed presentation on the global status, production, supply, and demand of various bio-energies. He noted that bio-energy forms such as bio-briquettes, bio-pellets, compressed biogas, and biomass-based green hydrogen would be instrumental in meeting the electricity demands of local authorities and the automobile sector. The Chairman directed the formation of a subcommittee to oversee the collection of essential oilseeds like Honge, Neem, and Hippe Seemarooba required for biodiesel production in the State.

It also focuses on encouraging biofuels, including biodiesel and ethanol, using sugarcane juice, damaged foodgrains, and non-edible oil said that his board also conducted various discussions with global and local investors to attract investments for biofuel production, besides conducting seminars and workshops, and discussing providing incentives, infrastructure, and several other facilities for also mentioned that a two-day international conference on recent research developments in sustainable technology, organised jointly by the National Institute of Engineering, Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Germany, and the Indian Institute of Engineering, was held at NIE's South Campus in the city this meeting, he also discussed with 100 experts and German universities about sustainable technologies that will play a decisive role in the promotion of state biofuel upgradation and commercialisation activities in the state in the coming said the state bioenergy development board and Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Germany have also shown interest in taking forward research and development of biofuel. KSBDB chairman reviews bioenergy initiatives in Mysuru

S.E. Sudheendra, Chairman, Karnataka State Bioenergy Development Board (KSBDB) visited the Bioenergy Research, Information and Demonstration Centre at NIE Engineering College on Wednesday to review ongoing bioenergy activities in Mysuru district. During his visit, the Chairman inspected a biodiesel production unit and a biogas generation facility. He also launched biodiesel-powered vehicles. Mr. Sudheendra highlighted the Board's commitment to formulating the New Karnataka State Bioenergy Policy 2025–30, which aims to accelerate bioenergy development across the State. He said the policy would incorporate suggestions and insights from entrepreneurs, feedstock suppliers, and investors to ensure a comprehensive and inclusive framework for the sector's growth. He also spoke about the KSBDB's recent participation in the International Conference on Sustainable Technology held in Mysuru. The progress made in implementing the ideas presented at the event was discussed with Shyam Sundar, professor at NIE. The chairman spoke on the proposed collaboration with Fachhochschule Dortmund – University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Germany. German universities have shown keen interest in the board's bioenergy initiatives and have invited the chairman and his team for a visit. Discussions are underway to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between KSBDB and the German institutions to facilitate academic and technological exchange, a press release from the board said here. Prof. Shyam Sundar has been tasked with reviewing the draft MoU in consultation with KSBDB officials and making necessary arrangements for the delegation's visit to Germany. The review meeting was attended by Assistant Environmental Officer Arpita from the Pollution Control Board, prof. Shyam Sundar and his team, as well as faculty members from NIE Engineering College.
