Jess Lee ends Singer 2025 journey with pride

ARAVINTHAN DESPITE finishing fourth in the Singer 2025 reality singing competition, Malaysian singer Jess Lee Kar Wei said she was grateful simply for the chance to perform on the show. 'This is the closest I have been to becoming champion. I want everyone to see the Jess Lee who sings with full passion and power,' said the 37-year-old, reported Sin Chew Daily. Lee reached the grand finale on Aug 1, performing Burning with Sun Nan in the first round, and a medley of her own songs Cliff to Heaven and Suffering in the final. She eventually placed fourth, behind Chen Chusheng, Mickey Guyton and Shan Yichun. It was her second attempt at the competition, having reached the penultimate round in Season Three in 2015. Lee revealed that her career had been in a lull since the pandemic, with her manager only able to find unpaid gigs in China until they landed the chance to appear on Singer 2025. After the finale, Lee returned to her hotel to be greeted by cheering fans. Fighting back tears, she thanked them for their support. 'You have to work diligently even when no one notices your efforts. When the spotlight finally falls on you, that's when you can give your all,' she said. Lee rose to fame in 2010 after winning the seventh edition of Taiwan's One Million Star, becoming the first Malaysian to take the title. > A woman in Liaoning, China, has sparked public outrage after CCTV footage showed her torturing and killing four cats at a cat cafe. The incident occurred on Aug 6 at the Bao Ying cat cafe, when the woman slipped into the premises while a staff member was busy attending to a customer. The video captured her hitting and slamming the animals onto the floor, Sin Chew Daily reported. When confronted, she reportedly said: 'I'm not in a good mood today and it caused me to torture these cats.' According to the cafe owner, four cats died from the attack, while several others remain under emergency veterinary care. China Press reported that the last time the 37-year-old was on the show was during its third season in 2015, where she shot to stardom with a live rendition of her best-known song Suffering. 'Ten years ago, I stepped onto the stage full of passion and dreams. Ten years later, I return with growth and determination – as a challenger. 'I hope to greet all of you again through my music. I'll be seeing everyone on stage!' she said. Lee will appear on this week's episode, where she will be pitted against Brazilian singer Alexia Evellyn. Only the winner will move on to the next round. Many of Lee's fans are excited to see their idol competing in a reality show again. 'She has spent the last 10 years sharpening her sword. The queen of live singing is back,' one fan wrote. In 2010, Lee made a name for herself after being the first Malaysian to win the seventh ite­ration of the talent show One Million Star in Taiwan. In 2020, she had to put her music career on hold as all her live shows were cancelled due to the pandemic.
