‘Blindsided' Hugh Jackman believed ex-wife ‘would not trash him to the press' after Deborra-Lee Furness' betrayal talk

Hugh Jackman and his ex-wife Deborra-Lee Furness are heading towards finalising their divorce after the Australian actor moved to the Suffolk County Supreme Court in New York to file for an uncontested divorce, two years after the couple announced their separation. Post-filing, Furness spoke to the Daily Mail and seemingly confirmed the infidelity rumours surrounding the Wolverine star by talking about trauma and betrayal, stressing that her heart goes out to everyone who has ever dealt with the same situation as hers. Now, according to the same publication, a source close to Jackman revealed that the actor was completely caught off guard and had no idea about the public comments made, subtly shading his relationship with girlfriend Sutton Foster. The source claimed that Jackman strongly believed there was an 'unwritten understanding that she would not trash him to the press,' and that now he 'knows that he cannot change anything.' Earlier, speaking to the Mail, Deborra-Lee Furness said that she sympathises with all those who 'traversed the traumatic journey of betrayal,' adding that the difficult time is 'a profound wound that cuts deep.' Though she said she is grateful for her time spent with Jackman, with whom she shares two kids, Oscar and Ava, she added, 'I believe in a higher power and that God/the universe, whatever you relate to as your guidance, is always working for us.' She added, 'Even when we are presented with apparent adversity, it is leading us to our greatest good, our true purpose. It can hurt, but in the long run, returning to yourself and living within your own integrity, values and boundaries is liberation and freedom.' The duo got married in 1996 after meeting for the first time on an Australian reality series in 1995. In 2023, while announcing their separation via a joint statement, they said they 'decided to separate to pursue our individual growth,' calling it a 'wonderful, loving marriage,' and concluded with, 'This is the sole statement either of us will make.' But Furness abruptly broke her silence with another statement, calling her experience a lesson and stating they are all on their individual journeys, believing any kind of relationship that happens in life is not random and that, 'We are drawn to people, we invite them in, in order to learn our lessons and to recognise and heal the broken parts of ourselves.' Jackman, on the other hand, fueled dating rumours with Foster in late 2024 when the friends-turned-lovers were caught by photographers painting the town red with plenty of PDAs. Then, in January 2025, they walked hand in hand, publicly confirming their relationship. The two have known each other since 2008 and were famously known as Broadway buddies. In 2019, they were announced to lead The Music Man. They wrapped up the musical in 2023 and, within a year, both separated from their respective partners, with Sutton calling it quits with screenwriter Ted Griffin ahead of their 10th wedding anniversary. Around the time she divorced her husband, it was reported that she was already in a relationship with Jackman.

‘Traumatic journey of betrayal': Hugh Jackman's wife Deborra-Lee Furness breaks silence on divorce amid cheating rumours

Hollywood actor Hugh Jackman and his wife Deborra-Lee Furness are officially heading for divorce two years after announcing their separation. The duo were married for 27 long years and have two kids, Oscar and Ava. Reportedly, Furness approached the Suffolk County Supreme Court in New York on May 23 for an uncontested divorce, which means only a judge's signature is needed to end the marriage. While Deborra's legal team has confirmed they have received the spousal support payment, the couple are reportedly struggling to split their combined $250 million fortune. On the other hand, speaking to the Daily Mail, the Australian actor, for the first time, broke silence on divorce and took a public swipe at the Wolverine star amid infidelity rumours. Jackman is currently dating his The Music Man co-star Sutton Foster. The duo first sparked dating rumours in 2023. Now, after two years of silence over the sudden divorce move, Furness is expressing sympathy for anyone who has 'traversed the traumatic journey of betrayal,' just like hers, and said her faith helped her get through this difficult time. 'It's a profound wound that cuts deep; however, I believe in a higher power and that God/the universe, whatever you relate to as your guidance, is always working for us,' she told the Mail in a scathing statement. She believes that even painful experiences lead us to learn and grow, and in the end, despite the end of almost three decades of marriage, being true to yourself is the key to freedom. 'It can hurt, but in the long run, returning to yourself and living within your own integrity, values, and boundaries is liberation and freedom,' she said. Deborra-Lee's lawyer, Elena Karabatos, earlier submitted legal papers including details about health care coverage, child support, and the settlement. Both she and Hugh Jackman seem to have agreed on terms quietly, so they only need to come to court to sign the papers. 'There was some back and forth regarding this financial agreement, but in the end, [Deborra] got what she believed she deserved. Both are coming out of this financially secure,' an insider told Mail on Tuesday. But if Hugh didn't physically cheat, she knows that he did emotionally.' Over the years, the couple has owned and sold multiple properties, including a $21 million penthouse in New York, a $5.9 million beach house in Sydney, and a property in East Hampton, New York. However, according to a source, 'They have worked out the details in advance and everything is ironed out in terms of a settlement.' The couple is reportedly planning to be amicable and fully committed to co-parenting their kids. Despite all this, Deborra-Lee says she remains grateful and focused on healing. Back in September 2023, the couple released a joint statement saying, 'We have been blessed to share almost three decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage. Our journey now is shifting, and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth.'
