Delhi Rain Turns Connaught Place Into ‘River View Gated Community'

A viral video captures the chaos in Connaught Place as heavy rains flood major streets in Delhi.
Heavy rain lashed parts of Delhi on July 29, bringing life to a standstill in several parts of the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that the rain is likely to continue for the next seven days, till August 3.
As water gushed through the streets, several key areas of the capital, including Connaught Place and ITO, experienced severe waterlogging. The downpour not only flooded roads but also led to traffic snarls and long delays, making it difficult for commuters to move around the city. A video, which has now gone viral on social media, captured the intensity of the situation.

In the clip, a stretch in Connaught Place is completely submerged. Shops remain shut due to waterlogging.

The video has received over one lakh views so far and has triggered a flurry of reactions online.
A user sarcastically called the area a 'River view gated community."
Another commented, 'Sack the town planners, civil engineers, the administrators and give it to a private management company with Singaporean technical consultants, they will set it right in less than a year! Do it, if you want to live a civilised life in a city. We have serious cultural and behavioural issues which prevent us from doing quality work."
Someone else added, 'Noida is much better despite heavy rain!"
'If this is the situation of Delhi and NCR region, imagine the situation in other parts of the country," another user said.
'Oh god. This is Connaught Place. What a shame," a shocked user wrote.
With continuous rainfall, the Delhi Traffic Police have issued advisories asking people to follow alternate routes and avoid waterlogged zones. Commuters are being urged to check real-time updates before stepping out.

Delhi is not alone. Several other states are facing intense rainfall too. The IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rain in Northeast India between July 28 and August 3. Rajasthan is also expected to witness intense showers. Parts of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Assam have reported more than 21 cm of rainfall in some areas. Authorities are on alert, especially in flood-prone and low-lying regions.
