North Andhra Forum seeks statutory council, ₹8,000 crore for irrigation and development
Hanumanthu Lajipathirai, Chairman of the North Andhra Development Advisory Forum and former Vice-Chancellor of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University–Srikakulam, has urged the State government to establish an exclusive Regional Council for North Andhra with statutory powers and allocate ₹8,000 crore for the completion of long-pending irrigation and other key development projects in the region. In a press release issued on Sunday, Mr. Lajipathirai stressed that the large-scale migration from North Andhra, including that of farmers, could be significantly reduced if crucial irrigation projects such as Sujala Sravanthi, Vamsadhara Phase-II, and Jhanjavati were completed without further delay. These projects, he said, would help ensure sustainable livelihoods and revive the local economy. Recommending the formation of a North Andhra Regional Council, he said the body should be empowered to oversee and prioritise development activities specific to the region. All local Ministers, MPs, MLAs, and MLCs could serve as ex-officio members to enable coordinated decision-making and stronger representation. The council should have the authority to review ongoing projects, monitor progress, and address region-specific challenges, he added. Mr. Lajipathirai also called for the council to investigate the closure of agro-based industries—particularly sugar and jute mills—in Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts, which have negatively affected the rural economy. While Visakhapatnam city has experienced rapid growth, he pointed out that other areas within the district remain underdeveloped. To promote inclusive and balanced growth, the Forum plans to hold a series of roundtable conferences across districts and divisional headquarters to gather public input on health, education, and infrastructure needs. Mr. Lajipathirai said equal development across all regions can be achieved only through continuous monitoring and a thorough understanding of local priorities.

Polavaram Left Main Canal works will be completed this year, says A.P. Minister
Andhra Pradesh Water Resources Development (WRD) Minister Nimmala Rama Naidu reiterated the government's commitment to completing the Polavaram Left Main Canal works by the end of this year. He said that the government was taking concrete steps to expedite the completion of several key irrigation projects in the North Andhra region. Addressing the media on Friday, Mr. Rama Naidu alleged that former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy had neglected the development of Uttarandhra. 'Instead of prioritising key projects like Sujala Sravanthi, which would have ensured water supply to the region, Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy had focused on constructing lavish buildings at Rushikonda,' he said. The Minister alleged that the previous YSRCP government had created 'a climate of fear' in the State. He also found fault with Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy for 'supporting provocative statements by his cadre'. Mr. Rama Naidu said that the NDA government was working to attract major investments to Visakhapatnam, promote the IT sector, and support the film industry. He assured that steps were being taken to protect the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) from privatisation. 'The government remains committed to completing the Polavaram Project by December 2027,' he said. Participating the media conference, Bheemunipatnam MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao criticised Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy and the YSRCP leaders for 'passing derogatory comments against Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu'.

Government to work with farmers for Amaravati land acquisition, says MAUD minister Narayana
NELLORE: Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) Minister Dr P Narayana said the government will work closely with farmers to acquire additional land needed for Amaravati's development, ensuring justice and fair compensation. He emphasised that acquiring land is crucial for major projects such as an international airport, Smart City, and Sports City planned for the State Capital. Speaking after inaugurating the newly renovated Ambedkar Park in Rayapalem of Nellore city on Saturday, Narayana stressed that further development is essential to enhance land values and attract investments in Amaravati. Pollution-free industries, he said, are key to sustainable economic growth, and industrialists would only invest if there are proper transportation and connectivity facilities. Highlighting the proactive measures being taken by the coalition government, Narayana said Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu is committed to ensuring Amaravati evolves into a hub for industries and urban infrastructure. On the occasion, the MAUD minister criticised the previous YSRCP government for stalling development works and credited the current administration with systematically reviving projects. Parks, central dividers, canals, and schools are being developed under the Green Corporation initiative, he said. Narayana detailed that under the master plan, 46 parks and 54 schools in Nellore are being equipped with play areas and gym equipment. He also mentioned the development of the playground at the Government Polytechnic College and said similar activities would be carried out across all urban areas. Addressing civic amenities, Narayana said under the NTR Sujala Sravanthi scheme, citizens are being provided 20 litres of drinking water for just Rs 2. NUDA Chairman Kotamreddy Srinivasulu Reddy, Municipal Commissioner YO Nandan, and others were present.
