BSTDC likely to invite e-bid for Patna Haat by July
Patna: The e-bid for the construction of Patna Haat — a hub of traditional arts and crafts — near Gandhi Maidan is expected to be invited by the end of July, after which its foundation stone will be laid by CM Nitish Kumar, according to the officials of Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation (BSTDC), which is executing the project. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now It will be developed west of Sabhyata Dwar with an estimated cost of Rs 48.96 crore. The initiative aims to promote and preserve the state's traditional handicrafts, providing a platform for local artisans. An official of the BSTDC said the Patna Haat will be developed on the lines of Delhi Haat. "The construction of a G+3 building is aimed to be completed by June 2027. The Patna Haat will have modern infrastructure such as underground parking, a fire fighting system, elevators and CCTV cameras. There will be a game zone for children, solar-power generation system, generator set and LED lights on the campus," said the official. Additional surface parking will also be available, besides two restaurants will be established within the premises. The BSTDC official said the project will reflect Mithila Haat of Madhubani district, displaying ancient Magadh's heritage. It will feature Madhubani paintings from Mithila region, Manjusa painting from Bhagalpur, Tikuli painting from Patna and Sikki craft from north Bihar. "Other stalls will include metal craft, bamboo and cane craft from Samastipur, pottery and ceramics from Darbhanga, leather shoes, belts, and bags, and Sujani craft from Muzaffarpur district, stone craft of Gaya, and Booti kala of Nalanda," he said. In 2017, a temporary Patna Haat was established within Gandhi Maidan, occupying 3,600 square feet space. However, it ceased operations due to unpaid rent to Sri Krishna Smarak Samiti, the maintenance authority of Gandhi Maidan. Despite having 50 stalls, poor business performance led to contract termination by the committee.
