Himachal CM asks Centre to expedite matters pertaining to State's civil aviation sector

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Wednesday (July 23, 2025) asked the Central government to expedite the execution of matters surrounding the State's civil aviation sector. In a letter to Union Minister of Civil Aviation Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, the Chief Minister has urged the Ministry to recommend the proposed expansion of the airport in the State's Kangra to the Ministry of Finance and the Prime Minister's Office for 'Special Central Assistance'. He also added that the techno-economic feasibility report of Kangra Airport should also be reviewed for arriving at a realistic assessment of cost by the Airport Authority of India (AAI) as it was on the higher side. Besides, Kangra Airport, which is the biggest and busiest airport in Himachal Pradesh, should be equipped with night landing facilities, he added. Mr. Sukhu also requested the Ministry to provide a second apron at Shimla airport suitable for operations of ATR 42/600 type of aircraft, which, he asserted, would go a long way in increasing the flight operations and support multiple flight operations from Shimla Airport. He also asked for resuming daily flight operations on the Shimla-Dharamshala-Shimla sector by Alliance Air Ltd.

Himachal Pradesh Government to spend Rs 207.50 crore to strengthen diagnostic facilities

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Government is making a determined push to revive the ailing healthcare system by launching a focused initiative under 'Vyavastha Parivartan'--a systemic transformation of public health institutions aimed at delivering much-needed relief and improved services to the people. As part of this initiative, the government has proposed a comprehensive investment of Rs. 606.70 crore, with over one-third of the amount, Rs 207.50 crore, earmarked specifically for strengthening diagnostic services across the State, according to a release. A government spokesperson stated that, following the directions of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the health department has prepared a detailed blueprint for the proposal. This move stems from the fact that patients in government hospitals often face the greatest difficulties in getting accurate diagnoses. "Most Medical Colleges, as well as other hospitals in the State, are ill-equipped, as diagnostic machines are 15 to 20 years old. These outdated machines make it difficult for doctors to accurately detect patients' ailments. Moreover, with advancements in medical technology, more efficient machines are now available, which can lead to faster and more accurate treatments of the patients. In response to these challenges, the Chief Minister has directed the replacement of old machines with new and technologically advanced equipment in hospitals," he added. As per the proposal, high-resolution 1.5 Tesla and 3 Tesla MRI machines will be installed at four major medical colleges like IGMC Shimla, SLBSGMC Mandi, Dr. YSPGMC Nahan, GMC Chamba, as well as at the Atal Institute of Medical Super Speciality Chamiyana. In addition, each of the seven medical colleges in the State will be provided with two advanced CT imaging machines, five mobile digital radiography (DR) units, two ceiling-suspended DR X-ray machines, two high-end ultrasound machines with colour Doppler, one mammography unit, and one Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS). A PACS unit will also be installed at Kamla Nehru Hospital in Shimla to facilitate the patients. Furthermore, each medical college will receive four portable ultrasound machines and one radiology workstation equipped with 3D software. The installation of this cutting-edge equipment is expected to significantly upgrade diagnostic capabilities and ensure that patients in government healthcare institutions have access to faster, more accurate, and more reliable health care services in the State, the release stated. The spokesperson further noted that most healthcare institutions across the State are currently constrained by limitations in both diagnostic and surgical capabilities. These limitations stem not only from a lack of modern equipment but also from insufficient training of the staff. To address this, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has emphasized 14 key focus areas in the proposal, including simulation-based training, cancer care, digital health, critical care etc. He said, "The aim of this modernization effort is to provide better care to patients within the State, so they no longer have to seek specialized treatment outside the State. Additionally, this initiative is expected to strengthen medical education, leading to significant improvements in the quality of healthcare services in the State."

Efforts on to fix minimum support price for fish procurement: Rajesh Dharmani

Bilaspur (HP), Jul 19 (PTI) Efforts are being taken to fix a minimum support price (MSP) for fish procurement to strengthen the economic condition of farmers, Urban Development, Housing, Technical Education, and Vocational and Industrial Training Minister Rajesh Dharmani said on Saturday. Addressing a day-long district-level fisheries awareness camp organised in Kutbaungand, under the Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC), Bilaspur, he said that a meeting with Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu will be held soon to take necessary decisions in this regard. The state government is committed to supporting fish farmers and has reduced fish royalty from 15 per cent to 7.5 per cent, directly benefiting the fisher community, he added. Dharmani announced that permanent shops will be provided near Oahr, along the four-lane highway, to fish cooperative societies for selling raw and cooked fish. Additionally, temporary stalls will be allowed at suitable points along the Chandigarh-Manali highway, so that local fishermen can directly benefit from the tourist traffic. The minister instructed Fisheries Department officials to resolve issues where contractors purchase fewer fish during the period of high yield. He emphasised the need to focus on food processing and value addition so that surplus fish can be preserved in cold storage and further processed to enhance income for local fishermen. He also mentioned that a cable ferry project has been proposed to connect the Naina Devi Temple with Baba Balak Nath Temple, facilitating the transport of devotees' vehicles across the route. The government has approved Rs 14 lakh for preparing the detailed project report (DPR) of this project. Vijaypal Nag, President of the Cooperative Society Jagatkhan, demanded the revival of the Fisheries Housing Scheme so that fishermen could be provided with residential benefits. He pointed out that although APMC collects a one per cent royalty, the cooperative fish societies have yet to receive basic infrastructure support, and urged the construction of an APMC office and other facilities.
