Bohemians FC Players in Ireland wear Shirts honoring Palestinian martyr 'Pele of Palestine'
Dublin – Saba:
Players of Ireland's Bohemians Football Club, during one of their training sessions, wore shirts featuring the image of the late Suleiman Al-Obaid, nicknamed the 'Pele of Palestine.'
Al-Obaid was killed on August 6th by Israeli army gunfire while waiting for humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip.
The Irish team's shirts also displayed an olive tree emblem with the word 'Martyr' written in both Arabic and Irish, along with the year of Al-Obaid's birth. At the center of the training ground, a Palestinian flag and a large portrait of the late player were displayed, underscoring the strong solidarity and support for the Palestinian football star.
The tragic killing of Al-Obaid sparked international outrage in the sports community. UEFA, the European football governing body, issued an official condolence statement regarding his death. Egyptian football star and Liverpool FC forward Mohamed Salah shared the statement and expressed anger over the fact that it made no reference to the circumstances of Al-Obaid's killing or the identity of his assailants.
