Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed inaugurates HSE Expo
Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, Head of the Oil Department and President of the Sharjah National Oil Corporation (SNOC), inaugurated the second edition of the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Expo at the Al Jawaher Reception and Convention Centre. The two-day event brings together industry leaders, regulatory bodies, and experts to discuss enhancing health, safety, and environmental standards and unifying the efforts of stakeholders around a shared commitment to make workplaces safer and more sustainable across all sectors. The ceremony began with the UAE national anthem. Following this, Hatem Dhiyab Al Mussa, CEO of SNOC, delivered a speech welcoming the President of SNOC and the attendees. He emphasised that health and safety are not just priorities but represent actual values for every project, determining its operation, leadership, and growth. Al Mussa noted that the expo, in its second year, focuses on providing a safe and healthy work environment. He affirmed that while changes in projects worldwide are numerous, health and safety remain constant and evolve to support the growth of projects and their workers across various sectors. The CEO of SNOC explained that sectors operate in a dynamic environment, with partners' aspirations growing. It is the responsibility of specialised institutions to drive progress and effectively implement health and safety measures, ensuring project continuity and growth. He also mentioned that the expo hosts technical workshops discussing ways to enhance health and safety, encouraging innovative thinking to find suitable solutions for sector sustainability, achieving 'zero' injuries at work sites, and investing in human resources to create an environment that improves work quality. The event featured a panel discussion titled 'Project Life Cycle Strategies for Contractor Compliance,' where a group of experts focused on health, safety, and environmental issues and developing and enhancing emergency response stages. They also stressed the importance of conducting studies on the current situation to support the continuity and interests of projects. The speakers emphasised the importance of taking recommendations and communicating with various sectors through field visits and strengthening collaboration with strategic partners. The session discussed several examples of projects in Sharjah that implemented health and safety standards without recording any injuries, accidents, or human and moral losses. The session highlighted the importance of establishing a culture of health and safety within organisations, reviewing various models from both the country and abroad to ensure sustainability. It also stressed the need to raise employee awareness about maintaining health and safety. The session discussed the development of crisis management plans, their practical implementation, and compliance with health specifications and standards, focusing on the safety of workers and the project. It also addressed various challenges facing projects, both material and moral, some of which are beyond control, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. The session concluded with a discussion on health, safety, and environmental standards built through reviewing best practices, engaging with partners, and listening to developmental feedback. This contributes to spreading a general culture and commitment to standards while exiting projects without injuries or accidents. The Deputy Ruler of Sharjah toured the accompanying exhibition, getting acquainted with the participation of various governmental and private entities specialised in health, safety, and the environment, as well as the diverse services they offer to the exhibition visitors. The exhibition aims to drive progress by enhancing collaboration, exchanging knowledge, and implementing solutions that benefit institutions, industries, and society as a whole amidst the challenges faced by various sectors. The exhibition encourages companies and institutions to move from mere compliance with laws to establishing a culture of leadership and proactive management in health, safety, and environmental fields. The Health, Safety, and Environment Expo 2025 is organised to set an agenda for the future of safety and environmental responsibility in work environments. Sultan Bin Ahmed attends opening of Oman exhibition
Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, the Deputy Ruler of the emirate of Sharjah, attended the inauguration of the 'Masterpieces from the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilisation' exhibition at the National Museum of Oman on Monday. The exhibition, which will run until May this year, serves as a cultural platform highlighting the deep historical ties and close collaboration between the United Arab Emirates and the Sultanate of Oman in preserving heritage and promoting Islamic culture. The inauguration began with a speech by Jamal Al Mousawi, Secretary-General of the National Museum of Oman, in which he welcomed Sheikh Sultan and the attendees to the opening of the exhibition which aims to showcase the beauty and evolution of Islamic art and is the result of collaboration between the National Museum of Oman and the Sharjah Museums Authority. In his speech Al Mousawi explained the exhibition is divided into three sections: Calligraphic Arts, Science and Innovations, and Harmony and Diversity. These sections showcase a selection of artifacts that highlight the richness, diversity, and deep cultural heritage of Islamic art throughout history. He noted that the National Museum of Oman is committed to showcasing and educating visitors about this artistic legacy. Additionally, he emphasised that the exhibition aligns with the museum's approach to cultural diplomacy, reinforcing its role in fostering cross-cultural dialogue and appreciation. Aisha Rashid Deemas, Director General of the Sharjah Museums Authority, delivered a speech in which she expressed her delight at the opening of the exhibition in a prestigious cultural institution. She emphasised that this event reflects the strong fraternal ties and deep historical relations between the United Arab Emirates and the Sultanate of Oman, fostered by the wise leadership of both nations. She highlighted that the visit of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to Oman was a key motivation for organising this exhibition. It aligns with his vision of using culture and the arts as a bridge to strengthen bonds between brothers, reinforcing values of cooperation and cultural exchange between the two countries. These ties are deeply rooted in history and extend across various fields, shaping shared cultural, historical, and social connections over the years. 'This exhibition is not merely a platform for displaying a collection of rare Islamic artworks; it is a window through which we can reflect on the rich historical legacy we share. It embodies the exceptional craftsmanship and creativity that have distinguished Islamic civilisation throughout the ages,' she said, adding: 'We are honoured to present a remarkable selection of rare artefacts, being exhibited for the first time outside the United Arab Emirates. These pieces stand as a testament to our shared heritage and the profound historical ties that unite our people.' She extended her gratitude to the team at the National Museum of Oman and all those involved in organising this distinguished cultural event, which provides an opportunity to explore and appreciate the timeless beauty of Islamic civilisation. Following the speeches, the Deputy Ruler of Sharjah officially inaugurated the exhibition by cutting the ceremonial ribbon. He then toured the exhibition, receiving a detailed explanation of the artefacts and their historical, cultural, and artistic significance. The exhibition features 82 rare pieces, being displayed for the first time outside the UAE including Islamic manuscripts, metalwork, ceramics, and historical coins that illustrate the evolution and richness of Islamic artistic heritage across successive civilisations. During his tour, he viewed several exceptional artefacts of great historical and cultural value that exemplify the artistic diversity and innovation that characterised Islamic civilisation over the centuries. These included a silver cup bearing the Tughra (imperial signature) of Ottoman Sultan Abdul Hamid II, a hexagonal dinner chair crafted for Al Nasir Muhammad Ibn Qalawun, the first Islamic dirham minted in Baghdad after the Mongol invasion, an 11th or 12th-century incense burner in the shape of a cat, and a gilded ceramic ewer from the 13th century.

Sultan Bin Ahmed crowns champions of tournament
Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Sharjah Media Council, crowned the Iran national team as champions of the six-a-side football tournament and Suhaila Suburb Council as winners of the beach volleyball competition at the Sharjah Ramadan Sports Tournament. The event took place at Al Heera Beach in Sharjah on Sunday evening. Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed attended the thrilling football final between the Indonesian and Iranian national teams, where Iran secured victory with a close 3-2 win. The intense and highly competitive match attracted a large audience of enthusiastic supporters from both teams. Meanwhile, the UAE national team claimed third place after defeating Oman 4-1 in a penalty shootout during the third-place playoff. In the beach volleyball final, Suhaila Suburb Council emerged victorious, defeating Muwailih Suburb Council in straight sets. The tournament featured six participating councils from across Sharjah, including Al Raqa, Wasit, Muwailih, Suhaila, Al Rahmaniyah, and Mughaidir. Sheikh Sultan also observed various fan engagement activities held alongside the tournament, including tug-of-war and sack racing. These interactive events welcomed participation from both adults and children, enhancing the tournament's festive atmosphere. He honoured the sponsors and supporters of the inaugural Sharjah Ramadan Sports Tournament, presenting them with commemorative shields and capturing memorable photographs. The first edition of the six-a-side football tournament took place from 4th to 9th March and featured eight Asian national teams: UAE, Iraq, Oman, India, Japan, Iran, Pakistan, and Indonesia. The teams were divided into two groups of four, with the top two from each advancing to the semi-finals and final, totalling 20 matches. Each game consisted of two halves of 25 minutes each. The tournament accommodated up to 1,700 audiences with dedicated seating areas. A fully integrated entertainment village was also set up, offering various activities, games, sports facilities, food trucks, and designated spaces for sponsors to enhance the overall fan experience. The awards ceremony was attended by several high-ranking officials. Sharjah Media organises 'Shams Ramadan e-sports tournament' The Sharjah Media City (Shams) has announced the organisation of the 'Shams Ramadan Tournament' for electronic sports. The tournament began on March 8 and will continue till March 14, with a total prize pool of up to Dhs100,000. This tournament is part of the city's efforts to promote a culture of electronic sports and support young talents in this growing field, enhancing its status as one of the prominent entertainment and competitive events during the Holy Month of Ramadan. Alya Ali Al Suwaidi, Director of Content and Innovation at Sharjah Media City, emphasised that this tournament aligns with their ongoing support for youth and their empowerment in innovation and technology, noting that electronic sports is one of the fastest-growing industries worldwide. The tournament aims to foster a spirit of healthy competition and encourage youth to invest their time in beneficial and enjoyable activities, with over 300 players expected to participate over the six-day event. Meanwhile, the Sharjah Sports Council has launched the exciting 'Sports Before Iftar' initiative, running until March 27, to promote fitness within the community during Ramadan. This programme encourages participants to engage in physical activities like walking and light body workouts from 5 to 6 pm, offering a chance to stay active before Iftar while earning rewards. The men-only event will be hosted at 50 selected locations across Sharjah in collaboration with 10 sports clubs and specialised training centres. With a goal of attracting at least 15,000 participants, the initiative emphasises the importance of physical health and community engagement during the holy month. Participants who meet the established criteria will be eligible for cash prizes, adding an extra incentive for those committed to enhancing their fitness. Winners will be chosen based on assessments that evaluate physical progress, fitness efficiency, and qualities like sportsmanship, discipline, and teamwork.

Sharjah Press Club's Ramadan Majlis begins at Aljada
Sharjah Press Club (SPC), affiliated with the Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB), is gearing up to launch the 14th edition of its annual Ramadan Majlis today, Monday, at Aljada in Sharjah. Held under the patronage of Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Sharjah Media Council, the event will run until March 17, covering discussions on eight diverse topics across its main and side sessions. The opening session, 'Healthy Interactions and Relationships,' will feature Dr. Ahmed Emara, a consultant in mental health, and will be moderated by media professional Ahmed Alyammahi. The session will focus on the skills needed for successful communication, building meaningful relationships, and managing interactions in a way that promotes social cohesion and reinforces positive values in communities. Running alongside this session, a side discussion 'German or Japanese? How to Choose Your Car' will be joined by automotive experts from ArabGT. The discussion will explore the differences between American, German, and Japanese cars, guiding consumers on how to select a vehicle based on their needs. Experts will highlight the technical and mechanical advantages of leading brands and share tips on extending a car's lifespan. Throughout the Majlis, attendees can look forward to engaging sessions on the contribution of Arabic literature to preserving heritage, the impact of values on human interactions, and the role of family in raising future generations according to Islamic teachings. Other side sessions will cover topics such as the use of social media in book promotion, strategies for business growth and sustainability, and best practices for organic farming. Late last year, Sharjah wrapped up its participation in the third Global Media Congress (GMC) session on a strong note with more than 20 insightful discussion sessions and training workshops organised by the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority, the Sharjah Government Media Bureau, and Sharjah Media City (Shams), over three days. Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, visited the Sharjah pavilion on Thursday and was briefed on the various initiatives that embody the emirate's strong media profile and identity. Dr Al Jaber was pleased to learn about the Smart Media Platform of the Sharjah Government Media Bureau, which streamlines the media work and activities of all Sharjah government institutions. The platform offers digital services that embrace the latest global technological advances in order to support government media professionals in the emirate and simplify their work procedures.
