Terengganu royals extend condolences to families of UPSI tragedy victims
KUALA TERENGGANU, June 10 — The Sultan of Terengganu, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, and the Sultanah of Terengganu, Sultanah Nur Zahirah, have extended their heartfelt condolences to the families of the 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students who perished in the tragic bus crash along the East-West Highway near Tasik Banding, Gerik, early yesterday morning. Datuk Pengelola Seri Bijaya Diraja, Datuk Mohd Sophian Abu Bakar, in a statement today, said Their Royal Highnesses expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and prayed for the bereaved families to remain strong and patient in facing this profound test from Allah S.W.T. He added that Sultan Mizan and Sultanah Nur Zahirah also prayed for the swift recovery of those still undergoing treatment and for all related matters to be eased. 'Their Royal Highnesses are deeply saddened by the horrific tragedy that befell the 15 students and their families. They pray that the souls of the departed be placed among the righteous,' he said. The accident occurred between 12.30 and 1.00am when the students' chartered bus travelling from Jertih to Tanjung Malim overturned following a collision with a Perodua Alza along the East-West Highway near Tasik Banding. Thirty-three others were injured, including the bus driver and attendant, along with the driver and three passengers of the Perodua Alza. — Bernama

Sultan Mizan Calls For Rebranding Of Religious Education Fund To Bolster Islamic Institutions
KUALA TERENGGANU, May 20 (Bernama) -- Sultan of Terengganu Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin has called for the rebranding of the Tabung Khairat Zainal Abidin, a religious education fund, to modernise its structure and strengthen support for Islamic institutions across the state. The Sultan noted that the fund, established in 1932, has long been a cornerstone of religious education in Terengganu. Among the institutions it has supported are Sekolah Menengah Agama Sultan Zainal Abidin (SMASZA) Ladang, Sekolah Menengah Agama (Atas) Sultan Zainal Abidin (SMAASZA) Batu Buruk and Kolej Agama Sultan Zainal Abidin (KUSZA), now Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA). 'I propose that the Khairat Zainal Abidin fund be rebranded to integrate wakaf (endowment), donations and almsgiving,' he said at the launch of the 100th anniversary of Sekolah Arab Sultan Zainal Abidin and the book Permata Darul Iman, held in conjunction with his 63rd birthday celebration. Also present were Sultanah of Terengganu, Sultanah Nur Zahirah and the Yang Di-Pertuan Muda of Terengganu, Tengku Muhammad Ismail Sultan Mizan. Sultan Mizan also stressed the importance of continued cooperation between the palace, school administrators and the public in sustaining the fund's mission. His Royal Highness urged all institutions bearing the name of Sultan Zainal Abidin III to work closely together in navigating the growing challenges of modern civilisation. KUALA TERENGGANU: Chief Secretary to the Malaysian Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar headed the list of 130 recipients of Terengganu state's honours and titles, held in conjunction with the 63rd official birthday of the Sultan of Terengganu, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin. Shamsul was conferred Darjah Kebesaran Seri Setia Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Terengganu (S.S.M.Z) Yang Amat Terpilih award that carries the title Datuk Seri by Sultan Mizan at a ceremony at Istana Syarqiyyah here today. Chief of Army Gen Tan Sri Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan and Melati Ehsan Holdings Berhad executive chairman Tan Sri Yap Suan Chee were also conferred the same award, Bernama reported. Chief secretary to the government, army chief receive Terengganu's highest honours
KUALA TERENGGANU: Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar heads the list of 130 recipients of the state's awards today in conjunction with the 63rd birthday of Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin. Shamsul Azri was conferred the Darjah Kebesaran Seri Setia Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Terengganu (SSMZ) Yang Amat Terpilih, which carries the title "Datuk Seri", at the investiture in Istana Syarqiyyah here. Army chief General Tan Sri Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan and Melati Ehsan Holdings Bhd executive chairman Tan Sri Yap Suan Chee also received the same honour from Sultan Mizan. Sultan Mizan also conferred the Darjah Kebesaran Datuk Setia Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Terengganu (DSMZ) Yang Amat Terpilih, which carries the title "Datuk", on five individuals. They are Malaysia Ambassador to China Datuk Norman Muhamad, hotel and sports tourism consultant Abdul Rahman Zabidin, Tuanku Nur Zahirah Foundation (YTNZ) trustee Toh Puan Seri Nur Rahmah Mohd Zin, National Disaster Welfare and Charity Association patron Datuk Shaikh Abdul Halim Shaikh Salah Marie Alkathiri and Medan Mutiara Sdn Bhd executive chairman Datuk Mazli Mohan Alias. The Darjah Kebesaran Datuk Paduka Mahkota Terengganu (DPMT) Yang Amat Mulia, which also carries the title "Datuk", was awarded to 23 individuals, including three state executive councillors, namely Dr Azman Ibrahim, Hanafiah Mat and Ariffin Deraman. Other recipients include state federal development director Abdul Kahar Abdul Latif, Dungun district officer Jusman Ibrahim, Terengganu Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (Maidam) chief executive officer Associate Professor Dr Ahmad Azrin Adnan and former state Education Department director Jelani Sulong. Sultan Mizan also bestowed the Darjah Kebesaran Setia Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin (SMZ) on 23 recipients, the Setia Mahkota Terengganu (SMT) Yang Amat Dihormati on 13 recipients, the Ahli Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Terengganu (AMZ) Order on 21 recipients, and the Ahli Mahkota Terengganu (AMT) Order on 42 recipients. Present at the ceremony were Sultanah Nur Zahirah, Terengganu Yang Dipertuan Muda Tengku Muhammad Ismail and Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.
