Touching 50th anniversary school reunion in Batu Gajah
The former students of the 1975 batch of Sultan Yusuff School at their 50th anniversary reunion.
LAUGHTER, nostalgia and heartfelt memories filled the air at Lembah Jernih in Lahat, Perak, as 80 former students of the 1975 batch of Sultan Yusuff School in Batu Gajah gathered to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their reunion.
Marking half a century since leaving school after Form Five, the event was held at a multi-purpose hall amid a fruit orchard about 3km away from Batu Gajah town.
Organised by a dedicated committee led by Ahmad Sohaimi Jamaluddin, the event brought together former classmates from near and far, including Thomas Liew Kooi Nyap and Lai Chee Keong, who travelled from the United States for the celebration.
The reunion saw the former students reconnect with each other as well as with the educators who shaped their formative years.
Among the teachers honoured at the event were Chee Hee Seng, George Selvaratnam, Surjan Singh, Daljit Singh, Lee Kok Chiang, Thong Kai Foo, See Yim Chow and the school's former laboratory technician Yoon Siew Phang.
Speaking on behalf of the teachers, Chee expressed deep appreciation for the warm welcome and recognition.
'It is truly touching to be remembered and honoured after so many years.
'Thank you for making us a part of this meaningful occasion,' he said.
Liew, in his address, paid tribute to the teachers for their unwavering guidance and dedication.
'Your passion, discipline and no-nonsense approach helped instil values that have stayed with us through life and instilled independence, responsibility and the courage to pursue our dreams,' he said.
As a token of appreciation, specially designed T-shirts and keychains created by former student Gerard Lessler were presented to the teachers.
The event underscored not only the enduring friendships built during school days, but also the lasting impact of good teachers and shared values.
The organising committee expressed their heartfelt thanks to all attendees and contributors, with special appreciation for those who made long-distance efforts to be present.
