Emergency operation centre at NMC HQ idle as Nashik city grapples with pre-monsoon fury

Nashik: The emergency operation centre at Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan, the Nashik Municipal Corporation 's headquarters, has remained idle for over a year amid delays in its handover from Nashik Municipal Smart City Development Corporation Ltd (NMSCDCL) to the civic body. Built at Rs 59 crore, the centre aimed to enhance disaster management capabilities, particularly during monsoons and the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela. "CCTV cameras and a public address system (PAS) have been integrated with the emergency operation centre to facilitate NMC in tackling situations during any emergencies or disasters," an official said. Unseasonal rain has been lashing Nashik city for the past fortnight, during which around 250 trees were uprooted and branches of another 200 trees fell. The city also experienced waterlogging at around 210 locations amid NMC's failure to undertake pre-monsoon works like cleaning the stormwater lines and nullahs. "At this juncture, the emergency operations centre at Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan could have helped NMC in tackling the situation if it were operational," an official said. NMSCDCL CEO Sumant More said the emergency operation centre was ready. "We are in the process of handing over the centre to NMC. It will take a couple of weeks to complete the process."

Ten private firms in race for Nashik's Rs 100cr optical fibre network project

Nashik: Ten private firms from Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Pune and other cities participated in a pre-bid meeting organised recently by the Nashik Municipal Smart City Development Corporation Ltd (NMSCDCL). These firms have shown interest in the Rs 100 crore optical fibre cable (OFC) project to be implemented by the body in Nashik city and Trimbakeshwar town ahead of upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela. In addition, three other firms from Nashik also participated in the meeting. Around 350km of OFC lines, including 300km in Nashik city and 50km in Trimbakeshwar town, are to be laid to help authorities boost digital security and connectivity during the religious conglomeration. NMSCDCL already issued a request for proposal (RFP) for laying the OFC lines, along with installation, testing, commissioning, operations and maintenance. The last date for filing the bid is May 20. "We already floated the RFP for the OFC network project. We also conducted a pre-bid meeting on Friday. Ten private firms from across the country participated. They had some technical queries and also wanted information about the terms and conditions of the project. We provided all the information they wanted," said Sumant More, CEO of NMSCDCL. "We expect to complete the tender process and allot a work order to the eligible private firm so that the work for the project will begin by the end of June. We set the target of laying OFC lines within 15 months from the day of allotting the work order to the private firm concerned," said More. The OFC lines will connect the offices of all authorities, police stations, and hospitals, integrating all the CCTVs through command-and-control centres. This will enable the authorities to implement Internet of Things (IoT)-based safety projects and sensors during the Kumbh Mela to maintain security and manage the huge crowd. Around 1,300 CCTVs have already been installed in Nashik city, while another 3,500 CCTVs are to be installed in view of the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela. These will be connected through the OFC lines and go online through the command and controlling centres and emergency operations centre.

Nashik city & Trimbakaeshwar to get 100crore optical fibre network

Nashik: The city and the Trimbakeshwar town are set to get an optical fibre cable (OFC) network to boost digital security and connectivity ahead of the Simhastha Kumbh Mela. According to Nashik Municipal Smart City Development Corporation Limited (NMSCDCL), a total of 350km of lines will be laid in Nashik city (300km) and Trimbakeshwar town (50km) to help the authorities maintain seamless network during the Kumbh Mela. The project, estimated to cost Rs 100 crore, will be funded under the Kumbh Mela funds. An official said the OFC network would connect key facilities like offices, police stations and hospitals, integrating closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras through command centres. This would enable authorities to implement IoT-based safety projects and sensors to ensure security and crowd management during the Kumbh Mela, the official said. NMSCDCL has issued a request for proposal for laying the OFC lines, including their installation, testing, commissioning, operations and maintenance. "We expect the tender process to be completed by May-end. At least 1,300 CCTVs have already been installed in Nashik city, while another 3,500 are to be installed in view of the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela. The OFC network would also help the Nashik Municipal Corporation even after the Kumbh Mela, he added.

40 traffic signals with Red Light Violation Detection & Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras to go live through the command and control room by May-end in Nashik city

Nashik: The Smart City corporation has set up Red Light Violation Detection (RLVD) and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras at 40 out of the total 55 traffic signals across Nashik city. These traffic signals will go live through the command and control room by the end of May. All these high-tech cameras are integrated with the command and control room of the smart city corporation, located at the Panchavati divisional building of the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC). Sumant More, the CEO of Nashik Municipal Smart City Development Corporation Ltd (NMSCDCL), told TOI they have started testing the RLVD and ANPR cameras at seven junctions — including Central Bus Stand, Trimbak Naka, Meher Signal, Canada Corner, Sharanpur Road, Gangapur Naka and Dream Castle on Makhmalabad Road — in the first phase. During the testing, it was found that more than 7 lakh vehicles crossed the traffic signals at seven locations over six days between April 19 and 24. Of them, around 50,000 jumped signals when they were red. Some vehicles violated the signals twice, thrice or more. "The history of the vehicles regarding the violations of the red signals can also be seen through the command and control room," More said. They need the marking of the zebra line from the NMC administration. Once it is done, the cameras can go live, added More. Moreover, the online challans will be sent directly to the red signal violators through the command and control room. NMSCDCL also provided training to the NMC and police personnel to enable them to operate the command and control room.
