Cybercrime gang busted in Motihari; Rs 29 lakh, arms & documents seized
Motihari: In a raid on Monday, the cyber police cell arrested five members of an organised cybercrime gang that operated out of a private school in Chandwari locality of the town in East Champaran district.
The gang, operating under the code word "Boss" during night hours, created a fake courtroom and defrauded people of lakhs of rupees in the name of digital arrest.
DSP of cyber police station, Abhinav Parasar, said in this major operation, the police recovered Rs 29 lakh in cash and other objectionable materials, exposing a huge network of hawala and cybercrime operating in the district.
Besides cash, the police seized Rs 99,500 Nepali currency, 24 cellphones, seven laptops, two tablets, two revolvers, three currency counting machines, 16 passbooks, 49 ATMs, 37 cheque books and suspicious documents like those from the SBI Dhaka (Bangladesh) branch.
A diary containing details of the daily financial transactions of the gang would prove crucial in unravelling the entire network, he added.
The arrested members of the gang have been identified as Sumit Saurabh, Sanjiv Kumar, Pappu Kumar, Sunil Srivastava and Dipanshu Pandey, who are natives of East Champaran district.
The police said the kingpin of the gang Satyam Saurabh, and his three associates, Ayush, Yash and Ansh, are on the run.

Police said the members of the gang have links with Pakistan and Nepal and earned huge money through cyberfraud. They lured innocent youths with the promise of providing commission and transferred black money into their bank accounts, especially in the SBI Chandwari branch of Motihari.
Police added that the illegal cash was converted into white money by investing it in cryptocurrency through various means. This method helped them escape the eyes of the law.
