Home and Away scene sparks major fan theory about how beloved character Irene will leave Summer Bay after 33 years

Home and Away fans are convinced they've cracked the mystery of how one of the show's most beloved characters will make her dramatic exit from Summer Bay. It was announced in February that Lynne McGranger, who has graced screens as Irene Roberts for an astonishing 33 years, is set to bid farewell to the iconic soap. Speaking to TV Tonight, Lynne revealed that when it came to her character's final goodbye, she had the final word. 'I had an idea and they loved it,' she said. Stopping short of divulging any potential spoilers, Lynne said Irene's exit will 'hit home' for fans of the series and said it will be 'very relevant' for a lot of people. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. However after Tuesday night's episode, a flurry of viewers believe they've pieced together the puzzle. One fan took to a popular Facebook group to theorise that Irene could be diagnosed with dementia after displaying concerning signs of memory loss. 'Did anyone notice in last night's episode that when Irene and John were talking about her watch and Irene looked confused and had a brain freeze like she lost her memory?' they posted to the group, sparking a frenzy among die-hard viewers. 'We know that she leaves our screens in August 2025, do you think this is leading to a dementia storyline and leading to her leaving?' The episode in question saw Irene bafflingly being told the same information twice about Roo Stewart (played by Georgie Parker). Adding to the intrigue, John Palmer (played by Shane Withington) queried why Irene had suddenly started wearing her watch again as she had 'stopped wearing that ages ago' and she appeared visibly confused. While the specific storyline has been kept tightly under wraps by Channel Seven, Lynne has hinted at a character-driven narrative. The Facebook post was met with a deluge of comments from eagle-eyed fans who had also noticed the unsettling scenes and said the concept was definitely 'plausible'. 'I was thinking the exact same thing myself, maybe dementia or a brain tumour," one person grimly shared, while another chimed in, 'Exactly what I said to my family last night! Irene was forgetting things!' 'Yes, I caught that too. Very clever and subtle I thought. I'm tipping it's Korsakoff's as well,' a third speculated, with a different user concurring, 'Maybe dementia due to the alcohol abuse.' 'Well picked! Alcohol related dementia, Korsakoff Syndrome. An adult and relatable storyline,' another fan astutely observed. 'This, if it turns out to be true, will open discussions and make people aware that it is just not "silly old people" that suffer from dementia.' However, some loyal viewers are holding out hope for a more uplifting send-off for their beloved Irene, wishing for a happy ending rather than a tragic demise. 'I hope she doesn't die as an exit. She deserves a happy ending,' a fan pleaded, with another commenting, 'I hope she just leaves, she's been through enough. Let her go and retire.' The Logie-nominated actress joined Summer Bay in January 1993. Her character Irene burst onto the small screen as a recovered alcoholic on a mission to turn her life around and reconnect with her daughter Fin (Tina Thomsen). Since then Irene has become an indispensable part of the tight-knit seaside community, famously taking in multiple foster children over the decades. She's been at the epicentre of some of soap's most explosive storylines, including her ongoing battle with alcoholism, a terrifying breast cancer diagnosis, the shocking reveal of a long-lost son, a dramatic ferry boat sinking, a devastating bomb explosion, a horrifying plane crash, and even a stint in prison for a murder she didn't commit.

Bad cop to good cop: Jeremy Lindsay Taylor returns to Home And Away. And he's playing a copper AGAIN!

He was last seen in Summer Bay in 2016, playing corrupt cop Dylan Carter. Now, Jeremy Lindsay Taylor is returning to Home And Away, but this time he's playing a different character altogether — and he's on the right side of the law. Taylor joins as a regular cast member in episodes airing from May 28, playing Sergeant David Langham, the new sergeant at Yabbie Creek police station. His character is actually the estranged father of Lacey Miller (Sophea Pennington), who has been 'missing' for six months. He arrives in town with his other daughter, Jo, played by Maddison Brown, who will join him on-screen in the weeks to come. 'The three of them are all dealing with trauma, and trying to reconnect, but it's not going really well,' Taylor says of the strained family dynamic. 'Meanwhile, David is trying to find his way with the character of Cash Newman (Nicholas Cartwright), who has had a bit of a shady career, shall we say.' After nearly six months keeping the role under wraps, Taylor, who is based on New South Wales' South Coast, said he is thrilled to finally be able to speak about his return to the long-running series. 'It's been a whirlwind,' he said. 'It's very, very exciting. 'It's been a busy six months, and now (my episodes) are just about to come on air.' Taylor is no stranger to playing men in uniform, having been cast as police officers a handful of times over his more than two decades on screen, most recently in Seven's The Claremont Murders miniseries. 'I've played at least five or six cops in my career,' he said. 'But (Langham) is definitely my favourite. 'He's very by-the-book — they need that in Summer Bay!' It's a sentiment shared by Taylor's own mother.: 'Mum started watching the show when I got the job at the end of last year, and she's constantly texting me and saying, 'Hurry up and get to the Bay, Sarge — they need you! It's a hornet's nest of crime!'' he said. Taylor, who first found fame on the popular 90s series Heartbreak High (his new Home And Away co-star Ada Nicodemou also famously got her start on that show as well, though their time didn't overlap), said he is enjoying being back on set, meeting the new cast and reconnecting with some familiar faces. 'It's such a great, young cast, and the older cast is full of legends,' he said. 'The first scene I shot was at the coffee cart at Palm Beach, and it was with Irene (Lynne McGranger), Alf (Ray Meagher) and Leah (Nicodemou). 'That was one of those pinch me moments, to be like, 'Wow!' It made me really happy.' Away from the Bay, Taylor has also been developing his directing career, with two feature films, a mini-series, and a short film in the works. Despite his busy schedule, he's grateful for this new chapter in Summer Bay. 'It's an important show. It's about family, real life — I'm loving it,' he said. As Sergeant Langham steps into Summer Bay, fans can expect drama, emotion, and a much-needed moral compass. One thing's for sure — Taylor's return to the Bay is set to make waves.

Maddison Brown quits LA to make Home and Away debut

After more than a decade living and working in the US, Aussie actress and model Maddison Brown is officially back on home soil – and already making waves. The 28-year-old, best known for playing Kirby Anders on the reboot of Dynasty, quietly packed up her West Hollywood life in October last year. Now, she's gearing up for her Home and Away debut. The star sat down with Stellar for an exclusive interview to reveal she will be back on Aussie screens early next month as new Summer Bay arrival, Jo. 'I lived in the US for 11 years, then the [writers'] strike happened and it felt like there was so much instability,' Brown said. 'At the same time, my business took off and it felt like I needed to be [in Australia]. It felt like the right time to hit pause, and take a breather [from LA].' Brown founded and runs Outside Beauty & Skincare, a sunscreen-focused brand she launched in 2023 with her sister Allyson Popovic. Their SPF 50+ Face Crème quickly became a viral hit, with over 10,000 people on the waitlist. Despite her success in business, Brown said acting is still firmly on the agenda. 'Right after I came back, [the role on] Home And Away came up,' she said 'It was everything I'd ever wanted – to be in Sydney and be with my family.' Although she can't share much about her character, the star teased that Jo has family in the Bay and a complicated backstory. 'I'm having a really, really good time playing her – shooting in Palm Beach is a pinch-me moment every time I'm on set,' she said. 'I'm an Aussie girl. I was in Atlanta for over four years [shooting Dynasty] and there's no beach. I was very homesick at that time in my life.' Alongside her TV and business careers, the former LA actor is also preparing for her next big role: bride. She's engaged to New Zealand actor Simon Mead, however is in no rush to make it a public spectacle. 'I'm very low-key about my private and personal life. I've always been that way,' she tells Stellar. 'I don't think people really speculate because I haven't given people anything to speculate about. I feel like people don't really pry. I've never put it on the table to be discussed.' With more than 770,000 Instagram followers and a new prime-time TV role, Brown knows attention will grow but isn't in a rush to chase after it. 'When I was on Dynasty, I got into a bad habit sometimes of reading good, bad and ugly things. I don't think I'll do that now – I'll just live my life … I don't think I'm famous enough to have haters.' Maddison Brown will join Home And Away in early June on the Seven Network.
