Home and Away scene sparks major fan theory about how beloved character Irene will leave Summer Bay after 33 years

Daily Maila day ago

Home and Away fans are convinced they've cracked the mystery of how one of the show's most beloved characters will make her dramatic exit from Summer Bay.
It was announced in February that Lynne McGranger, who has graced screens as Irene Roberts for an astonishing 33 years, is set to bid farewell to the iconic soap.
Speaking to TV Tonight, Lynne revealed that when it came to her character's final goodbye, she had the final word.
'I had an idea and they loved it,' she said.
Stopping short of divulging any potential spoilers, Lynne said Irene's exit will 'hit home' for fans of the series and said it will be 'very relevant' for a lot of people.

However after Tuesday night's episode, a flurry of viewers believe they've pieced together the puzzle.
One fan took to a popular Facebook group to theorise that Irene could be diagnosed with dementia after displaying concerning signs of memory loss.
'Did anyone notice in last night's episode that when Irene and John were talking about her watch and Irene looked confused and had a brain freeze like she lost her memory?' they posted to the group, sparking a frenzy among die-hard viewers.
'We know that she leaves our screens in August 2025, do you think this is leading to a dementia storyline and leading to her leaving?'
The episode in question saw Irene bafflingly being told the same information twice about Roo Stewart (played by Georgie Parker).
Adding to the intrigue, John Palmer (played by Shane Withington) queried why Irene had suddenly started wearing her watch again as she had 'stopped wearing that ages ago' and she appeared visibly confused.
While the specific storyline has been kept tightly under wraps by Channel Seven, Lynne has hinted at a character-driven narrative.
The Facebook post was met with a deluge of comments from eagle-eyed fans who had also noticed the unsettling scenes and said the concept was definitely 'plausible'.
'I was thinking the exact same thing myself, maybe dementia or a brain tumour," one person grimly shared, while another chimed in, 'Exactly what I said to my family last night! Irene was forgetting things!'
'Yes, I caught that too. Very clever and subtle I thought. I'm tipping it's Korsakoff's as well,' a third speculated, with a different user concurring, 'Maybe dementia due to the alcohol abuse.'
'Well picked! Alcohol related dementia, Korsakoff Syndrome. An adult and relatable storyline,' another fan astutely observed.
'This, if it turns out to be true, will open discussions and make people aware that it is just not "silly old people" that suffer from dementia.'
However, some loyal viewers are holding out hope for a more uplifting send-off for their beloved Irene, wishing for a happy ending rather than a tragic demise.
'I hope she doesn't die as an exit. She deserves a happy ending,' a fan pleaded, with another commenting, 'I hope she just leaves, she's been through enough. Let her go and retire.'
The Logie-nominated actress joined Summer Bay in January 1993.
Her character Irene burst onto the small screen as a recovered alcoholic on a mission to turn her life around and reconnect with her daughter Fin (Tina Thomsen).
Since then Irene has become an indispensable part of the tight-knit seaside community, famously taking in multiple foster children over the decades.
She's been at the epicentre of some of soap's most explosive storylines, including her ongoing battle with alcoholism, a terrifying breast cancer diagnosis, the shocking reveal of a long-lost son, a dramatic ferry boat sinking, a devastating bomb explosion, a horrifying plane crash, and even a stint in prison for a murder she didn't commit.

Squatters filmed watching television in man's home while news crew interview him

A family of squatters was filmed living in a retiree's home in Australia while he was interviewed by A Current Affair about the situation. The squatters had been residing in the house for a year after one of them initially booked the property via a listing. The initial squatter then invited his family to join him while the homeowner, Adrian, was away caring for his dying mother. The news crew from A Current Affair criticised the squatters' 'audacity' as they had installed curtains to create makeshift bedrooms. The squatters refused to leave the premises even while the news cameras were recording.

Fans roast Indy Clinton for 'cringeworthy' display at Sydney meet-and-greet event

Indy Clinton has faced some not-so-subtle roasting following a meet-and-greet event in Sydney. The influencer, 27, who is the face of haircare label Bouf, was in the Castle Towers shopping centre in Castle Hill on Saturday to spruik the brand. However fans were quick to slam Indy after she shared a clip of the event to TikTok. The clip showed Indy dancing with abandon on a Bouf-themed stage to what appeared to be a smattering of Saturday shoppers. The mum-of-three looked very much in her element as she gleefully sashayed her way around the stage. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'Dream come true, a dance performance to a crowd (who aren't my kids),' Indy captioned the clip. However, it wasn't a dream come true for many on the AussieTikTokSnark Reddit page with fans labelling the event as 'cringeworthy'. 'I'm having a good chuckle at the deliberate cropping of the line in her videos, don't think many showed up,' one user wrote. 'Also the dancing on the stage was so cringeworthy, kind of like what a teenager might do as a joke.' Another agreed, adding that they felt embarrassed for the influencer. 'Just saw her TikTok and nearly passed away from second-hand embarrassment,' they quipped. 'Barely anyone showed up lmfao, and the people that are watching look like they're just having a look because they were walking past while doing their shopping and stopped to see what was going on.' Yet another, who claimed to be at the event chimed in with: 'I walked past as I was shopping and it was dead.' It wasn't all negative however, with many fans praising Indy's display over on TikTok. 'We need Indy on a runway ASAP,' one swooned while another, who attended, added: 'You're an icon. Loved meeting you today. 'Such a huge moment,' a third said. 'Performing in front of a crowd must feel incredible.' It comes after Indy was called out for promoting the hair care brand while wearing wigs and hair extensions. She shared a video to Instagram giving fans a sneak peek inside her new campaign for Bouf Haircare. The clip featured Indy posing in a jumpsuit while wearing long hair extensions as well as in a short mini dress with a long blonde wig attached to her locks. Many flocked to the comments to slam Indy for promoting a hair growth product while wearing fake hair extensions. 'Don't get me wrong, this is cool, but also I'm not drawn to buying haircare when the model has fake hair/extensions. It's just hard to see how a product can be effective when we aren't shown real hair,' one person wrote. 'How do we know her fine hair wasn't caused by postpartum hair loss and the hair gain isn't just what happens when hormones settle after a baby and hair begins to grow back?' another asked. A third jumped in with: 'I mean this is fun but the choice of wigs and clip ins is not giving hair growth brand. There are so many hair growth serums out there lol. 'Didn't Indy used to plug Bondi Boost all the time?' Despite the backlash, others rushed to Indy's defence and praised her exciting new campaign. Bouf Haircare co-founder Rachael Wilde has posted a video to TikTok explaining why they decided to incorporate wigs in their campaign photo shoot. 'Indy documented an entire four months of using the product,' she began. 'The overall art direction, that we wanted to go with was to create this moment of juxtaposition. The woman in her chaotic everyday world and life at home feeling like an absolute superstar with this bold volume of her hair. 'An example is someone sitting on a pile of washing but we wanted to make it glam so we are showing a woman in her bold confident self with all this stuff going on in her life. 'We went with really big with the hair just to go overboard with expressing the polar opposites with these two things.'
