Home and Away scene sparks major fan theory about how beloved character Irene will leave Summer Bay after 33 years
Home and Away fans are convinced they've cracked the mystery of how one of the show's most beloved characters will make her dramatic exit from Summer Bay. It was announced in February that Lynne McGranger, who has graced screens as Irene Roberts for an astonishing 33 years, is set to bid farewell to the iconic soap. Speaking to TV Tonight, Lynne revealed that when it came to her character's final goodbye, she had the final word. 'I had an idea and they loved it,' she said. Stopping short of divulging any potential spoilers, Lynne said Irene's exit will 'hit home' for fans of the series and said it will be 'very relevant' for a lot of people. However after Tuesday night's episode, a flurry of viewers believe they've pieced together the puzzle. One fan took to a popular Facebook group to theorise that Irene could be diagnosed with dementia after displaying concerning signs of memory loss. 'Did anyone notice in last night's episode that when Irene and John were talking about her watch and Irene looked confused and had a brain freeze like she lost her memory?' they posted to the group, sparking a frenzy among die-hard viewers. 'We know that she leaves our screens in August 2025, do you think this is leading to a dementia storyline and leading to her leaving?' The episode in question saw Irene bafflingly being told the same information twice about Roo Stewart (played by Georgie Parker). Adding to the intrigue, John Palmer (played by Shane Withington) queried why Irene had suddenly started wearing her watch again as she had 'stopped wearing that ages ago' and she appeared visibly confused. While the specific storyline has been kept tightly under wraps by Channel Seven, Lynne has hinted at a character-driven narrative. The Facebook post was met with a deluge of comments from eagle-eyed fans who had also noticed the unsettling scenes and said the concept was definitely 'plausible'. 'I was thinking the exact same thing myself, maybe dementia or a brain tumour," one person grimly shared, while another chimed in, 'Exactly what I said to my family last night! Irene was forgetting things!' 'Yes, I caught that too. Very clever and subtle I thought. I'm tipping it's Korsakoff's as well,' a third speculated, with a different user concurring, 'Maybe dementia due to the alcohol abuse.' 'Well picked! Alcohol related dementia, Korsakoff Syndrome. An adult and relatable storyline,' another fan astutely observed. 'This, if it turns out to be true, will open discussions and make people aware that it is just not "silly old people" that suffer from dementia.' However, some loyal viewers are holding out hope for a more uplifting send-off for their beloved Irene, wishing for a happy ending rather than a tragic demise. 'I hope she doesn't die as an exit. She deserves a happy ending,' a fan pleaded, with another commenting, 'I hope she just leaves, she's been through enough. Let her go and retire.' The Logie-nominated actress joined Summer Bay in January 1993. Her character Irene burst onto the small screen as a recovered alcoholic on a mission to turn her life around and reconnect with her daughter Fin (Tina Thomsen). Since then Irene has become an indispensable part of the tight-knit seaside community, famously taking in multiple foster children over the decades. She's been at the epicentre of some of soap's most explosive storylines, including her ongoing battle with alcoholism, a terrifying breast cancer diagnosis, the shocking reveal of a long-lost son, a dramatic ferry boat sinking, a devastating bomb explosion, a horrifying plane crash, and even a stint in prison for a murder she didn't commit.

Heartbreak as Home and Away star dies suddenly: 'By far the best actor'
Tributes are pouring in after a beloved Home and Away cast member recently died. Buddy, the adorable Boxer who featured as James Stewart's dog on the show from 2016 - 2019, passed away over the weekend. His owner Shelley announced the heartbreaking news on social media. 'I have lost my Buddy. We did so many fun things together over the years. His time on Home and Away was definitely the highlight for him and me,' she began. 'He loved going more than anything. We had a final trip to the beach planned but he just didn't make it. He left peacefully at home in his bed while I held him. I have lost a big piece of my heart.' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. The dog made his first appearance on the show with James Stewart's character, Justin Morgan, in June 2016. He was gradually phased out as the drama series began focusing on Justin's relationship with Leah Patterson, played by James' real-life girlfriend Ada Nicodemou. Heartbroken Home and Away cast members took to the comment section to pay tribute to the canine. 'RIP beautiful Buddy. You were my side kick in so many scenes... An incredible scene partner,' James Stewart wrote. 'Always knew your lines… always hit your mark.. and you could sniff out chicken wherever it was! I love ya mate.' 'Oh I am so sorry to read this. Beautiful Buddy,' added Lynne McGranger and Sophie Dillman chipped in: 'Sending you so much love. The goodness boy ever.' Meanwhile, heartbroken fans paid tribute to the dog's fine 'acting' skills. 'He was the best thing in Home and Away for many years. By far the best actor. An amazing dog, may he rest in peace and enjoy his time over the rainbow bridge,' one devastated fan wrote. Buddy was gradually phased out as the drama series began focusing on Justin's relationship with Leah Patterson, played by James' real-life girlfriend Ada Nicodemou (pictured) In August, Buddy made headlines after fans noticed a strange detail about him on the long-running Channel Seven soap opera. On a Facebook fan page, one viewer was quick to point out that Justin Morgan's beloved pooch had mysteriously gone missing from Summer Bay. 'What happened to Buddy? Never see him anymore,' commented one eagle-eyed viewer. 'Poor Buddy, he must be starving, no one ever feeds him, let alone takes him out on daily walks?!' wrote another. 'He's in the backyard,' replied another person, before one proposed a novel theory about Boxer's extended absence. '[Buddy] heard Justin singing and playing guitar and ran far away like a dog with fireworks, poor thing,' the comment read, referring to the character's tendency to sing on the show. Elsewhere, others suggested the long-running drama should go back to showing more of the characters' domestic lives.

Guess who! Home and Away star shares adorable throwback photo as she celebrates 48th birthday
She is a veteran Australian soap opera actress with over three decades of experience in the industry. Since 2000, she has appeared on Channel Seven 's Home and Away as one of its most beloved characters. Last year, she made headlines when a real-life romance blossomed with the actor who plays her on-screen husband. On Wednesday, the Sydney-born star shared some adorable throwback photos to social media that captured her looking unrecognisable as a child. One throwback picture captured her in uniform posing for her primary school photos, while another showed her as a young child playing dressing up in fancy clothes. Despite looking world's away from the glamorous star she became, she still had her trademark cheeky grin. So, can you guess who it is? Of course, it is Ada Nicodemou, the veteran Home and Away star who has played Leah Patterson on the long-running drama since 2000. Ada shared the precious photos to mark her milestone 48th birthday and captioned the gallery with some reflective words: 'Where did the time go?' Many of Ada's celebrity friends took to the comment section with words of support. 'Happy birthday darling. Hope you're getting spoilt! Can't wait to catch up again soon,' gushed Home and Away veteran Lynne McGranger. 'Happy birthday!!!! Only one year till your 49th,' added radio star Brendan 'Jonesy' Jones. In July last year, Ada revealed the differences between her real-life relationship with co-star James Stewart and their on-screen romance. The lovebirds were first linked earlier that year when they were seen sharing a kiss on Anzac Day - and a few months later, Ada finally broke her silence on their romance. The veteran actress told 2Day FM's Hughesy, Ed and Erin her off-screen relationship with Stewart, 49, was much 'happier' than their soap opera one. 'We are definitely happier in real life! Do you know what [our characters] Leah and Justin have gone through?' Ada began. 'Leah's been kidnapped so many times and she threatened Justin with a knife! In real life, we are really boring.' The pair have known each other since 1998 when they co-starred on the short-lived Channel Ten soap opera Breakers, and started appearing together on Home and Away in 2016, when Stewart joined the series. Ada added having their long-time friendship blossom into romance was an incredible experience - and they kept things strictly professional while on the set. 'We've known each other for a very long time. Like 25 years. We've been friends for a very long time. It was very unexpected but we're happy... it's really lovely,' she explained.
