Home and Away star is unrecognisable as she steps out with friends in Bondi
She's the Aussie actress who plays fan-favourite Mackenzie Booth on iconic soap, Home and Away. And Emily Weir looked almost unrecognisable this week, when she stepped out with friends in Bondi. The actress, 34, cut a very different figure from the fashion-forward character she plays on the long-running Channel Seven series. Also known for flaunting her sense of sartorial style on the red carpet, Emily went for a much more casual approach during her outing. Rugging up against a chilly Sydney day, Emily wore a long, sand-coloured trench coat that finished below her knees. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. She added a pop of colour to her wintry look with a pair of eye-catching, high-waisted mauve jeans. Emily matched her pants with a pair of equally colourful, retro-styled Adidas sneakers. She added to her interesting colour palette with a pair of lime green-framed sunglasses that were perched atop her head. The soap star also wore her hair in a tall top knot, leaving strands of her brunette locks to fall freely down her shoulders. It appears that Emily and her pals had just enjoyed an early workout session, with the actress carrying a large gym bag over her shoulder. She also accessorised with a large black leather cross-body bag. Emily, who was spotted carrying a small takeaway coffee, looked chuffed to be in the company of friends, with the trio deep in conversation as they strolled. Emily recently shocked fans after admitting she and her on-screen love interest, Tristan Gorey, considered leaving the iconic series. Also known for flaunting her sense of sartorial style on the red carpet, Emily went for a much more casual approach for her outing The pair admitted they were affected by the recent death of beloved character Felicity Newman, played by Jacqui Purvis. Speaking to Yahoo Lifestyle, Emily revealed that if Mackenzie had to leave Summer Bay, she wanted it to be on her terms. 'I don't ever want Mackenzie to die. I want her to leave the Bay, so there's always a place where I can come back to,' Emily said. The brunette bombshell said if her character had to die, she would like it to be in a very dramatic and memorable manner. 'If I had to, I'd love to be in a gunfight or something really left of field. Really do some martial arts, like a fight scene or something.' Meanwhile, Tristan, who plays Dr Levi Fowler, was interested in taking his character to a darker place before his potential exit. 'I feel like Dr Levi should turn bad and then he's chasing after Mackenzie and Mackenzie's running away, and then he just trips and falls and hits his head,' he said. Rumours of a potential exit for Emily swirled in October last year after fans discovered a worrying photo posted to social media. They noticed Emily was on a big US holiday with former co-stars Sarah Roberts and Tim Franklin. It had been reported that Emily's three-year contract on the series was soon to expire, leading fans to speculate her 'holiday' may actually be a farewell party. Back in 2022, Emily candidly revealed how her years-long struggle with 'crippling anxiety' led to alcohol addiction. The actress told Who magazine she would regularly use wine as a crutch after she began suffering panic attacks as a teenager and felt she had no other way to cope. 'The more you shine a light on anxiety and addiction, the less power it has,' she said. 'It's definitely not easy, but by speaking out, I hope anyone else who is struggling realises that these issues can and do affect anyone - and I'm passionate about shining that light on something that affects so many of us.' Emily said she first began experiencing anxiety and panic attacks when she was just 19, shortly after her parents divorced. She went through 'what was effectively a nervous breakdown', yet had no idea what anxiety was because it wasn't commonly discussed at the time. The actress said she turned to alcohol to cope and soon became 'reliant on booze', before eventually being forced to address her problem after 'one messy night too far'. She has since learned to manage her addiction with the help of AA and counselling. 'I feel very lucky to have found the help that I needed,' she said. 'There's no right or wrong way through this for anyone, but I am fortunate I found a way that works for me.' Emily landed her breakthrough role as restaurateur Mackenzie Booth on Home and Away in 2019.

What Was the Point of Cole's Death on Young and the Restless?
Cole Howard died on the Thursday, July 3 episode of The Young and the Restless. J. Eddie Peck had played the character on and off since 1993. But the character had been on the canvas even earlier, back in 1980, when the boy played by N.P. Schoch was known as Charles… and he was thought to be the son of Victor Newman. Luckily, that turned out to be untrue, and paved the way for Cole and Victoria's romance… and the eventual discovery of their previously believed to be dead daughter, Claire. The revelation that Claire (Hayley Erin) was the long-lost Eve Nicole also brought Cole back to Genoa City, where he and Victoria (Amelia Heinle) kind of rekindled their romance… albeit off-screen. But, at long last, Claire had the parents she'd always wanted, Victoria and Cole had their daughter, and they were the happy family they'd always wanted to be. (Victoria's other kids, Reed, Johnny [Paxton Mishkind], and Katie [Sienna Marino], could either love it… or get shipped back off to boarding school.) So everything was great, if not particularly exciting. And then Cole died. Um… what? MORE: What happens next on Y&R. What was the point of bringing Cole back to Genoa City and the reunion with Victoria if he was just going to be written off again, this time for good? If the writers didn't want to include Cole in the fun, why not just ship him back to England, keep him in reserve in case they finally thought of something to do with him? Cole's death wasn't even particularly romantic. It, too, happened primarily off-screen. READ MORE: Here's what happened on today's Y&R. Maybe Cole's death is supposed to drive Victoria back to Nate (Sean Dominic) — they did have a sweet scene earlier in the week — and drive Claire away from Kyle (Michael Mealor) and into Holden's (Nate Owens) arms — the latter two also connected over her random, out of the blue anxiety attack (so Jordan [Colleen Zenk] didn't drive her to palpitations, but this did?). But was Cole's death necessary? Both of those things could have happened without the blink and you missed it demise. So what was the point of any of it? Days of Our Lives Recap: Sophia Unexpectedly Gives Birth in Her Bedroom
Days of Our Lives Recap: Sophia Unexpectedly Gives Birth in Her Bedroom originally appeared on Daytime Confidential. On today's Days of Our Lives recap: University Hospital – Lobby: Sarah gets a call from Xander asking to visit Victoria the next day. She agrees and he hangs up. Kiriakis Mansion: Holly is visiting with Grandma Maggie saying her father would be so proud of her for graduating as salutatorian. Further, she has gotten into college in Paris. Maggie questions her decision and Holly says she's worried about her mother. Maggie thinks whatever is going on with Nicole and Eric is their issue. She needs to focus on her education and what's best for her. Just then, Sarah walks in. Sarah asks Holly about her summer plans, and she rattles off a few goals, including a senior sleep away event she and Arianna Grace will be attending together. With that, she exits and texts young Douglas about their study session. Doug texts back saying he has decided not to get his GED. Sarah tells Maggie about the large likelihood of sharing custody of Victoria with Xander. She doesn't know how she will deal with being so connected to a man she despises but also has such a pull on her. Maggie is glad she is talking about her feelings of conflict and knows both she and Xander still love each other. Sarah thought her love for Xander would change him and Maggie says it did. She doesn't think the change went deep enough. His violent temper and the anger and judgement with which he treats her makes him a man she couldn't possibly live with (re: anger and judgement – that ain't your lesson to teach. Also, Horton privilege..). Maggie gets it but notes she can't live without him. What she's expressing is exactly the way she felt about Victor. She details the struggle and inner conflict she experienced being married to a man like Victor. Maggie says she had to find a way to live with the reality of Victor's devious and sometimes brutal side. Sarah isn't certain she could ever do the same with Xander. Hernandez House: Leo is checking into the stolen necklace but has no luck. Javi appears in his paramedic uniform and his beau is quite impressed. He wants to get all sexy but Javi has to go to work. Horton House: Steve arrives with news for Julie about her necklace. He has a lead on the buyer. It was purchased using a wire transfer and now he has Austin (who used to be a forensic accountant) working his magic to find the buyer. Steve promises they are going to find whoever has her necklace. Julie is curious how much the necklace is going for as she wanted to get it appraised for insurance purposes. The 'little weasel' took it before she was able to do so. Recognizing himself a bit, Steve cuts for young Douglas. He knows what it is to be young and make stupid mistakes. Julie remembers having shoplifted a fur stole and being arrested when she was young. That being said, Julie can't forgive him because he betrayed his family legacy (Horton privilege in full effect). Park: Young Douglas meets the debt collector goon and tells him that he needs more time to get the money. The goon swallows the park whole as he says no more excuses. He says they need payment, in full, now. The goon mentions Holly and how her family is loaded. He reminds Doug again he will hit up every last person he knows if he fails to pay off his debt. Marlena and John's Penthouse: Tate leaves a message for Sophia saying he feels better they have an attorney to set up the adoption before the baby comes. Tate gets a text from Holly asking if she can come over and he enthusiastically agrees. Holly arrives to check on Tate after losing his Grandpa John. He is so happy to see his ex-girlfriend and finds it weird they are no longer seeing each other on the daily after graduation. Holly tells Tate about being accepted at the Sorbonne and he worries she is leaving town. Holly hasn't made any decisions. Holly says she's had trouble getting over him. She thought she had feelings for Doug but admits to Tate she's never gotten over him. Tate feels the same way. With that, they embrace and kiss. Sophia's Digs: A sweaty and distraught Sophia is cleaning up blood and throwing things away when her newborn baby boy cries (that was fast). She apologizes to the baby for not having parents lined up for him. She worries her mother, father and Tate are all going to want her to keep him. For that reason, she can't let anyone see him as she will never get her life back. Sophia pulls on a black hoodie (never a great garment to wear in Salem) and picks up her sleeping baby. She begins to cry and says how sorry she is to have to do this to him but thinks she has no other choice. With that, she grabs her backpack and exits. Sophia returns without her baby, sits down on her bed and cries (how in the world is she going to explain being baby bumpless?). She lies down and sobs as she holds her teddy bear close and says 'I'm sorry' over and over again. Sophia hears her phone beep and listens to the message Tate left. She feels better hearing his voice but quickly breaths a heavy sigh when he mentions the adoption. Sophia rubs her babyless belly saying it's too late for adoption as their baby has come and gone. Horton Square: Steve gets a call from Austin who tells him something leading to him calling Bo. University Hospital – Lobby: Kayla and Javi talk about the folks he's brought in that evening and how well he did with the last patient he brought in. Steve arrives and tells Kayla about finding the person who purchased Julie's necklace. Kayla congratulates him and thinks it will lead to many more cases for him and his new partners. She mentions young Douglas and they both hope he has learned some valuable lessons. Steve and Kayla are about to exit when Javi walks in with a baby. He says someone left him, cord still attached, at the Safe Haven box in the fire station. Kayla takes the baby and cradles him, saying he is safe now. Kayla returns after examining the baby and says he's in good shape. Javi asks what's next and Kayla says he's been assigned a social worker. The mother has 14 days to by law to reclaim the child before they system officially takes over. Until then, he'll be placed with in foster care. Based on his history, Steve freaks out and asks her not to let that happen. He thinks he would like them to foster the baby. Kayla gets it but thinks they are too busy to make it work. Javi says he has an idea. Horton Square: Young Douglas calls Leo and is disappointed to learn he's had no luck finding the necklace. He suggests Doug practice positive affirmations each morning to make his life better (giggle). Doug is not inspired by his friend's words. Julie walks into the square and fields a call from Bo saying her grandmother's necklace is on the way back to Salem. She walks off and runs into young Douglas. Julie tries to blow him off, but Doug begs her to wait. Endings Young Douglas says he did all he could to get the necklace and even if he could, he wouldn't be able to afford it. With venom, Julie says she isn't surprised (See: Horton privilege). Doug says he's thinking of leaving town and wants her to know how sorry he is. Julie says she is sorry she welcomed him into her home and that he carries her late husband's name. She continues to tear into Doug's grandson and tells him to get gone. With that, she tells him the necklace was found and storms off. Sarah thanks Maggie for her support and love. She has to figure out a new way forward. Maggie asks if she wants to divorce Xander and Sarah says she doesn't know. Maggie thinks being uncertain indicates her marriage may still have hope. Tate and Holly kiss and she's astounded Sophia hasn't shown up to interrupt their reunion. With that, they get back to their make out session. Sophia tries to pull herself together, picks up her phone and calls someone (Melinda?) to ask for help. Leo preps himself for his night of passion when Javi arrives with a baby in tow. Keep checking back for the latest Days of Our Lives recaps! This story was originally reported by Daytime Confidential on Jul 2, 2025, where it first appeared.

'Beyond the Gates' Creator Shares Unfiltered Thoughts on CBS Rerun Decision
'Beyond the Gates' Creator Shares Unfiltered Thoughts on CBS Rerun Decision originally appeared on Parade. CBS is making an interesting decision next week, taking viewers back to the beginning of its newest soap opera, Beyond the Gates. Now, the show's creator has taken to social media to speak directly to fans about the move. Michele Val Jean took to social media to address the recent scheduling decision. Val Jean posted on X (Formerly Twitter): "To those asking: preemption-rerun decisions are made way above my pay grade so no insight into that. The good news is the upcoming reruns are premiere week so those of you who missed it can catch up with how it all began. #BeyondTheGates#BTG" Fans took to her replies to share their support for the creator and the soap. "Thanks, love. Hope you're enjoying your vacation. You deserve it!" Wrote one user, while another added "We'll take it as another chance to hook new fans ❤️." With a third user sharing, "The preemption has people up in arms which means - the show is AMAZING and becoming a staple in people's lives. Have a good weekend 😊💖" There is no news yet on how this news will effect Canadian broadcast of the series, as the series was previously, due to preemption, a day ahead. CBS officially describes Beyond the Gates as a soap opera that is 'set in a leafy Maryland suburb just outside of Washington, D.C., in one the most affluent African American counties in the United States; a posh gated community with winding tree-lined streets and luxurious mansions to call home. At the center of this community are the Duprees, a powerful and prestigious multi-generational family that is the very definition of Black royalty. But behind these pristine walls and lush, manicured gardens are juicy secrets and scandals waiting to be uncovered. And those who live outside these gates are watching closely. These are the places where our characters live, love, work and play. Those who have 'made it' and those who haven't are all trying to navigate life … and some with more grace than others.' Beyond the Gates has a cast of over thirty contracted actors. The soap is anchored by the Dupree family, starring Clifton Davis (Vernon Dupree), Tamara Tunie (Anita Dupree), Karla Mosley (Dani Dupree), and Daphnée Duplaix (Nicole Richardson), and their respective families. 🎬🎬 Beyond The Gates is developed and produced by CBS Studios and the NAACP in partnership with P&G Studios a division of Procter and Gamble. The series is the groundbreaking first hour-long black soap opera to premiere in daytime. The creation is the brainchild of award-winning showrunner Michele Val Jean, in association with executive producer Sheila Ducksworth, and is the first new soap opera to premiere since NBC debuted Passions back in 1999.
