Starbucks brings back popular summer drinks but shoppers think the recipe changed: 'Am I just crazy?'
Starbucks fans are questioning its Summer-Berry Starbucks Refreshers following their return to menus. Loyal customers have questioned the recipe on Reddit after the drinks returned to menus for a limited time on Tuesday. The iced drink is made up of a mix of raspberry, blueberry, and blackberry flavors poured over raspberry-flavored pearls. The fan-favorite beverage can also be ordered with lemonade for the Summer-Berry Lemonade Refresher or coconut milk for the Summer Skies Drink. However, what debuted as fun, summer-filled beverages are now 'strange' drinks with 'globby pearls,' in the eyes of some Reddit users. 'I went and got one for breakfast and the boba is noticeably different. It's a thicker consistency inside and has a different taste,' a customer wrote. 'I thought it was just me, so I called my sister who lives 90 mins away and asked her if she had it yet. She drove over and got one too and said the exact same thing.' Starbucks has implemented changes in recent months like a major menu revamp, but the company insisted the beverage recipe wasn't one of them. 'The recipe for Starbucks Summer-Berry Refreshers has not changed since the drink first launched in 2024,' a Starbucks spokesperson told 'This is a seasonal summer drink and is available for a limited time while supplies last.' Other fans chimed in on the matter, and despite the recipe staying the same, they insisted the post creator was not insane to think something changed. '"Globby" is the perfect word to describe them. Whatever I got today is very different than what I had last year,' one customer wrote. 'These are very thick - almost a pudding consistency. And they're not sweet. It's a very weird texture and taste.' However several Starbucks customers on X have been excited to purchase the summer-themed drinks. 'Summer Berry Refresher is backkkkk at Starbucks - my SOUL is happy!!,' an X user wrote. 'The summer berry lemonade refresher is back at Starbucks I'm too excited lol,' another fan commented. Besides the refreshers, Starbucks is saying hello to summer with its all new Iced Horchata Oatmilk Shaken Espresso. Horchata is made with non-dairy milk and spices inspired by various traditions and cultures worldwide. Beverage developer Ricky Gonzales revealed horchata was everywhere while in his central California neighborhood. He spotted the flavor at most Mexican restaurants, and described it as an 'icy, sweet' beverage with cinnamon that was 'comforting and refreshing.' Customers can also try the chain's new Strawberries & Cream Cake Pops, Ube Espresso Martinis, Masala Chai Lattes, and Crispy Hashbrown Egg Cups in participating locations. This season's new coffee blends available now are the Rwanda Sholi Kundwa and Honey Process Ecuador Loga. Its fan favorite Indonesia West Java blend also made its grand return. Fans can also check out new limited-time merchandise. Starbucks' new menu comes after it axed 13 beverages in March. The cuts, which included several Frappuccinos and specialty drinks, were part of CEO Brian Niccol's broader initiative to get 'back to Starbucks' by reducing menu complexity. The chain's new uniform requirement also led to social media backlash and baristas threatening to quit. Other changes that customers and employees have complained about include messages on cups and the chain ending its seven-year open-door policy.
