ICE storms cartel-run nightclub, arrests 72 migrants including murder suspect
Federal immigration agents raided a cartel-operated nightclub in South Carolina early Sunday, arresting more than 70 illegal migrants, including a Honduran fugitive wanted for homicide, according to the Department of Homeland Security. The Alamo, an underground nightclub in Summerville, was packed at around 3 a.m. when Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) stormed the building, recovering firearms, bulk cash, seven potential trafficking victims and a missing juvenile. Teens as young as 13 were found drinking inside the club, local law enforcement said. The club's owner, Benjamin Reyna-Flores, is a suspected member of the Los Zetas Cartel — now known as Cártel del Noreste (CDN) — which was formally designated a terrorist organization by the Trump Administration in February, Homeland Security said. He now faces both state and federal charges. The raid was part of a months-long investigation into the establishment, which officials said was a hotbed for narcotics, weapons and human trafficking. The investigation was code-named "Operation Last Stand," and around 200 law enforcement personnel across 14 agencies were on the ground. In total, 80 arrests were made. One of the most high-profile arrests was that of Sergio Joel Galo-Baca, a Honduran illegal alien and foreign fugitive with an active INTERPOL Red Notice for homicide in Honduras. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Charlotte led the operation with local law enforcement, DHS Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Tricia McLaughlin praised the results of the raid. "Day in and day out, the brave men and women of ICE are working with local law enforcement to keep American communities safe," McLaughlin said. "Under President Trump and Secretary [Kristi] Noem, fugitives and law-breakers are on notice: Leave now or ICE will find you and deport you." The nightclub is located off Highway 78. South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster echoed McLaughlin comments and said that Tren de Aragua gang members were also arrested. "This is what years of open borders got us, but now things have changed," McMaster posted on X. "We will continue to have more investigations like this one to rid South Carolina of these criminals." Charleston County Sheriff Carl Ritchie said law enforcement has been gathering information in this case since November, when repeated noise complaints led deputies to investigate further. Deputies and agents entered the nightclub with 116 arrest warrants, both criminal and immigration-related. Ritchie said, per WCSC, that they were able to serve 80 warrants. Deputies said some were citizens and others were non-citizens. Among those arrested were two "high-level" cartel members, a number Ritchie expects to grow. Deputy Administrator Eric Watson, meanwhile, described the scene as a "cartel afterparty." Two witnesses, David Herrera and Destiny Tinoco, said the nightclub filled up with agents and deputies shouting commands, some inside translating the words to Spanish. "I saw dancing, I saw people smiling, having a good time and then boom. It all went to chaos," Herrera told WCSC. "A bunch of agents from multiple agencies came in, pointing guns at people, barking orders, telling people to get the "bleep" down, put your hands up. Basically, detained the whole building for, like, an hour and a half, maybe two hours. People were coming up to them, saying, 'I have kids at home.'" Ritchie, meanwhile, said some of those arrested face charges for assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, possession of controlled substances and possession of a firearm.

West Los Angeles alleged petty thief faces felony charges under new Prop 36 laws
Gathering outside of a Los Angeles 7-Eleven that has been the target of a serial petty thief, District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced that felony charges have been filed against a theft suspect -- and that Proposition 36 is working. The convenience store on Olympic Boulevard was targeted by theft 12 times in recent weeks. Owner Jawad Ursani said the same shoplifter would come back again and again, knowing that there were no real consequences. "Each incident costs us in stolen goods, broken equipment, staff morale, and personal safety," he said. Hochman said thanks to the new laws outlined in Prop 36, Corry Summerville has been charged with 12 felony counts of petty theft or shoplifting - with two prior convictions, for 12 instances of alleged theft at the Olympic Boulevard 7-Eleven. Prop 36 allowed for theft of items worth $950 or less to move from a misdemeanor to a felony – if the person has two or more past convictions for certain theft crimes, such as shoplifting, burglary, or carjacking. The proposition passed in November 2024. Los Angeles Police Department Captain Richard Gabaldon said Summerville has been targeting the same 7-Eleven since May 2022. Over 21 crime reports have been made listing the 39-year-old as a suspect. Summerville also faces a robbery charge for "violently assaulting an employee after being asked to pay," Gabaldon said. The Jan. 2022 incident was captured on surveillance footage. "Prior to Prop 36, repeat offenders, like Summerville, were often released and reoffending within days, sometimes hours," Gabaldon said. Hochman said since Dec. 18, there have been over 1,000 Prop 36 felony arrests. "And that message is starting to be sent, loud and clear," he said. The district attorney also launched a new "low tech" crime prevention measure, a window warning sticker. He said 10,000 stickers will be distributed to businesses in Los Angeles County that read, "This is a protected business; Thefts will be prosecuted by the retail theft task force." A QR Code is available on the sticker for more information. Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman introduces new Warning stickers for LA County businesses. KCAL News

Lew-Port parents want to work with district on addressing bullying
After several anonymous online posts were made claiming the Lewiston-Porter Central School District does not properly address bullying, residents are taking action. Colleen Summerville, a Youngstown resident who is a retired mental health counselor from SUNY Niagara, has five children who graduated from Lew-Port and now has a grandchild in the district. She took charge of organizing parents' complaints with Jennifer Weibert of Lewiston, with at least 20 parents reaching out so far. 'When we get together, the purpose is to work together with the district, administrators, and the Board of Education, resolving any concerns about bullying,' Summerville said, emphasizing they want their meetings to be cordial and without slander. Some of these parents spoke about the issue at the Board of Education's April 28 meeting, while a former board member reportedly said there was no such problem. The anonymous Facebook posts that started in April, including some claiming to be students, bring up cyberbullying and students telling others to kill themselves. District officials said they took swift action to address the issue. Superintendent Paul Casseri said they are aware of Facebook posts and students involved with bullying have faced disciplinary consequences, with the district having a zero-tolerance policy for bullying at any of its buildings. 'We sincerely hope that anyone experiencing or witnessing bullying will come forward so we can provide support and take appropriate action,' Casseri said in an email to one of the concerned parents. 'Only when we are made aware of a situation can we take steps to address it.' Lewiston-Porter already has several programs in place in the primary and intermediate education centers meant to help students learn leadership skills and navigate any emotional and social issues they may have. Last November, the IEC was named a Leader in Me Lighthouse School by FranklinCovey Education for its success in imparting leadership skills on the school's third- through fifth-graders. There is also an anonymous tipline on the district website where any student or community member can voice concerns. These parents plan to be at the school board's May 12 which will also feature budget presentations and this year's school board candidates. There will be a community meeting at Youngstown Presbyterian Church at 7 p.m. on Tuesday for discussions on an action plan. The plan they come up with will be presented at the school board's May 27 meeting. Any concerned parents can reach out to Summerville at 716-531-6701.
