iGo partners with Sun Electro Devices to scale production of 2.5 wheeler smart EVs
Bengaluru-based
iGo
, an emerging player in the
electric mobility
segment, on Tuesday said it has entered into a strategic partnership with automotive manufacturer,
Sun Electro Devices
, to accelerate production of its 2.5-wheeler smart EVs.
According to the official press release, the move signals a departure from the traditional giga-factory vertical integration model, opting instead for an ecosystem-driven manufacturing approach.
It added that while earlier EV makers prioritised in-house production, iGo aims to leverage India's established manufacturing base to bring products to market faster without compromising on quality.
'Why reinvent the wheel when we have already invented the twin-wheel? Our focus is to build a product that customers love, and that's only possible by combining deep tech innovation with decades of manufacturing excellence,' said Sravan Kumar Appana, CEO, iGo.
Pune-based Sun Electro Devices offers decades of automotive production experience, a skilled workforce, and a strong supplier network. The partnership will enable iGo to scale up to 1,000 vehicles per month within seven months, with launches planned in Pune, Panjim, and Mumbai.
The company's twin-wheel EV platform incorporates features such as anti-topple stabilisation technology, on-demand self-balancing, and a triple-disc CBS braking system, positioning it between traditional scooters and e-rickshaws.
