Mysuru: Mysuru City police have intensified their anti-drug operations and identified 341 individuals who consumed ganja and were possessing ganja and MDMA. DCP (law and order) Bindu Mani is overseeing the surprise raids and awareness programmes to educate the public and students about the adverse impact of drug consumption and the punishment for peddling narcotic substances. The crack down comes in the wake of the arrest of four youths by Mumbai police, who were allegedly involved in producing narcotics in north Mysuru. This incident prompted local authorities to ramp up their efforts to tackle the drug menace. The drive aims to dismantle the drug network, if any, in Mysuru, focusing on both users and suppliers, and reflects the commitment of the police to create a drug-free environment. Karnataka police assign beat system to improve traffic situation

Mysuru: Here is an opportunity for the public to improve the traffic situation in their neighbourhood. For the first time, Karnataka police in Mysuru city came up with a novel initiative of assigning a beat system for traffic police. They have to form a body of residents concerned about road traffic management and take steps to implement measures to improve the situation. Deputy commissioner of police (traffic) KS Sundar Raj said their goal is to improve the traffic situation. A meeting was scheduled at the office of the commissioner of police on Wednesday. All traffic police officers attached to five traffic stations and the assistant commissioner of police (traffic), along with a few citizens, took part in the meeting chaired by commissioner of police Seema Latkar. Accordingly, every traffic police station must form two beat groups comprising five to six residents voluntarily willing to assist the city traffic police in bringing improvement in traffic and road safety. About 36 groups, two each under one law and order police station limits, would be formed by the police under the new initiative. Before the Dasara commences, city police will hold another meeting with the selected group and take action on suggestions by them, the DCP said.
