'He's not well': Australian Idol star Guy Sebastian rushed to hospital to undergo surgery after suffering serious injury in football game
Guy Sebastian has been rushed to hospital after he sustained an injury during a football game with AFL legend Brendan Fevola. On Saturday, the Australian singer, 43, and former Carlton player, 44, teamed up to help Masala Dandenong Football Club break a losing streak at Lois Twohig Reserve in the Melbourne suburb of Dandenong North. Sebastian and Fevola led Masala to a tense 55–53 win over South Melbourne Districts as a thundering crowd cheered on the underdogs. The stars united as part of a promotion by Fox FM's Fifi, Fev, and Nick breakfast show, where Fevola offers his skills for battling local clubs. Masala suffered a 229-point defeat to St Bede's Mentone the week prior, but soared to victory with the 623-goal kicking star in their line-up. The AFL great scored six goals and plucked several one-handed marks to help secure the win. However, Sebastian's afternoon was cut short by injury. The Australian Idol 2003 runner-up could be seen limping out of the park in the fourth quarter. He had his leg iced and wrapped and left the ground on crutches. The Battle Scars hitmaker took to Instagram shortly afterwards and addressed his injury with worried fans. "Thought I'd strap on the boots after a LONG hiatus and performed for the locals," Sebastian said. "Great day out for Masala Dandenong getting their first win with @brendanfevola25 kicking a bag! "Unfortunately, I've done a proper number on myself. #realitycheck #sticktosinging #footyglorydaysareover @thefox1019." Fevola later appeared on Channel 7's Sunday Footy Feast where he revealed Sebastian ruptured his Achilles and was due to undergo surgery. "I spoke to him this morning, he's not well," the former Brisbane Lions player said. "He's ruptured his Achilles. He's getting surgery on Monday and is in hospital. "So he missed his mate's 40th, but hey, we got good headlines, which is great (laughs). "He had a mate's 40th back in Sydney, so when we decided to do this to help out a footy horrible. That was the whole point." Fevola said Guy agreed to Saturday's game and pushed himself to continue with the second quarter after originally only planning to play in the first. "There were a couple of other teams to play (on Saturday), but Guy Sebastian just released his new single, Maybe, so I said, 'mate, do you think you can come out and sing at half-time?'," he said. "And he said 'mate, I'd love to'." "Guy actually played the first quarter, sung at half-time, sung virtually a whole concert and then he was so into it, he was actually having a crack,' Fevola explained. "He goes, 'I'll play the second half'. Fourth quarter, I saw him fall down and I couldn't stop laughing because he just fell. I was like 'mate, singers shouldn't play footy, footy players shouldn't sing, keep to your genre'. "And he looked around, and he goes, 'I think something popped'. I said 'that's not good, because I've done both Achilles'." It came after the Victoria Amateur Football Club (VAFA) association investigated Sebastian and Fevola's appearance when VAFA clubs questioned their eligibility as the competition strictly prohibited payments to players. The investigation found Sebastian and Fevola would not be paid, so their appearance went ahead. Both stars were reportedly willing to sign a legal document to confirm the findings. A Fox FM producer said Sebastian and Fevola's appearance was purely 'a promotional exercise'.

'I didn't realise (Sheahan's daughter) Kate was involved at Richmond,' he told Sunday Footy Feast of the Tigers' long-time head of women's football. 'She sort of floated it as a 'what do I think of AFLW' and as I said to her, I've got four daughters and I pretty much watch every game and I have from the start. 'I've been down (at Punt Road) the last couple of months but pre-season officially kicks off tomorrow so I'm super excited for that. 'To be back in footy land, to be among the girls, I think it's a real credit to the AFLW girls — they don't get paid much, they're in their voluntary work for the last two months, they're in there every day. 'And they're doing it because they want to get better and they want to play footy. That really excites me, because they want to learn. 'They're pretty much sponges, everything you say they take in. They want to watch tape.' He said he is 'like a 12-year-old kid' when Richmond stars Katie Brennan and Monique Conti come to ask him for advice. 'I literally can't wait for tomorrow, I'm so pumped,' Fevola added.

Police issue summons for disgraced AFL player Tarryn Thomas
Disgraced footballer Tarryn Thomas is reportedly set to be charged by police after he was allegedly found in possession of an illegal substance. As first reported by leading AFL reporter Mitch Cleary on Sunday morning, the former North Melbourne footballer was inside a Lamborghini with another male when the car was searched by police. Victoria Police have released a statement to the network, where police have alleged drugs were found inside the luxury vehicle. Police will also allege deal bags were found inside the car, which was allegedly spotted in a no-standing zone. Cleary told Channel 7's Sunday Footy Feast: 'Tarryn Thomas and another man were allegedly caught in possession of drugs and deal bags in the CBD of Melbourne. 'In a statement to 7NEWS, police have confirmed a 24-year-old Thomastown man and a 25-year-old Ormond man are both expected to be charged on summons. 'This came after a Lamborghini that both males were in, were spotted in a no-standing zone. 'Officers then executed a search on that vehicle where they found the drugs and the deal bags.' It emerged last month Thomas was allegedly involved in a 'terrifying hostage drama'. The former Kangaroos player, who lost his footy career over multiple off-field incidents involving women, was with a friend in Ballarat when the alleged incident took place. Nine News' Isabel Quinlan reported Thomas and his mate met with a group of men around 9pm at a pub on a Saturday night. 'They've stayed there for about an hour, and as they were driving to another location, that's when things took a turn,' Quinlan reported. 'Nine News understands that Tarryn told police that two men held him and his friend at gunpoint, demanding that they sign over the papers to their car and hand over thousands of dollars. 'After allegedly being held hostage for several hours, it's understood Tarryn and his friend have eventually cut a deal and convinced these men to drop them off at a property where they have managed to call police. 'Now, police were investigating this incident for several days, but Tarryn Thomas retracted his statement. 'We have reached out to his lawyer, who has not responded to our request for comment. Tarryn has since deleted his Instagram account and it is understood that the car has been found and returned.' Thomas was axed by the Kangaroos in February 2024 over repeated conduct breaches and was suspended for 18 games by the AFL. A charge regarding the harassment of a former partner was heard in court before being dropped and Thomas eventually pleaded guilty to breaching a court order, but avoided a criminal conviction. He was given a 12-month good behaviour bond under the conditions he remain offence free for the next year and continue to engage with the medical practitioners. After Thomas' November 2024 court case, the AFL declared he must 'consistently demonstrate a change of behaviour for any application on his behalf to even be considered' for approval to return to the top level. He is permitted to play state-league football this year but could not find a home after being considered by teams in both the VFL and WAFL.
