Britain has become a nation of Sunday preppers, research reveals

Britain has become a nation of Sunday preppers, research reveals Laundry (60%) takes the top spot of super Sunday activities, with writing a weekly to-do list (42%), batch cooking (40%), and deep-cleaning the house (37%) also high on the agenda Chris Kamara makes his 2025 pundit comeback with EDF's Sunday Saver campaign, bringing his trademark, witty commentary to a family's Sunday prep game plan, all powered by free electricity (Image: Oliver Dixon) As families across the country seek innovative ways to keep bills down and get ahead of the game before Monday's whistle blows, Britain has become a nation of Sunday preppers, with 64% revealing they get set for the week ahead on this day. ‌ According to new research, laundry (60%) takes the top spot of super Sunday activities, with writing a weekly to-do list (42%), batch cooking (40%), and deep-cleaning the house (37%) also high on the agenda. ‌ These popular Sunday strategies have shown to be a key player, with 42% of households saying it helps reduce stress about the upcoming week, and the same number saying it frees up time during the busy weekdays. ‌ The research from EDF also revealed for many (60%), Sunday prep is seen as a game of skill, with time-saving hacks including using a checklist (47%) and prioritising tasks in order of importance (41%). And to increase efficiency further, it seems this planning is a family affair, with 54% getting the whole household involved and implementing team tactics. EDF's Sunday Saver: Free Electricity Turns Sunday Prep into a Win – With Chris Kamara Alongside ticking off essential weekly tasks in advance, Brits use Sundays as a chance to unwind and do more of what they love - from going for a walk or spending time outdoors (43%) to watching TV (38%). Article continues below To change the way Brits power their Sunday game plans - and make them even more rewarding - EDF is supercharging Sundays with up to 16 hours of free electricity for customers who shift their electricity use away from peak hours (4pm-7pm) during the week through its Sunday Saver Challenge. Of those who say Sunday is already their favourite day of the week, 66% reveal this is due to it being the most relaxing. Yet, 64% say free electricity would enable them to get even more out of the day, with the knowledge that they are saving cash topping the list of reasons. Marking his first pundit appearance of 2025, Chris Kamara analyses the nation's prep-day tactics in a new film, providing a play-by-play as a British family makes the most of their free electricity hours; batch cooking, doing the laundry, and gardening, all while enjoying their Sunday together. ‌ Pundit Kamara said: 'Free electricity from EDF on a Sunday is obviously a real game-changer - you can get all of the big jobs you want to do done early, just in time to watch the game. It's all about planning your moves and playing to your strengths - that's how you win the week before it even kicks off. It's unbelievable, Jeff.' EDF is the only energy supplier offering free electricity on Sundays and according to the research, 80% of people - in some capacity - are already adopting flexible energy habits to save, with others wanting to try to in the future. 73% would also do all their week's prep on a Sunday if they had free electricity, so they could cut down costs during the week and save on bills. EDF's Rich Hughes said: 'We want to help our customers make the most out of their Sundays, by easing their Sunday prep - making it more efficient, more affordable, and even more enjoyable. With our Sunday Saver Challenge, households can access up to 16 hours of free electricity, giving them the opportunity to get set for the week ahead without worrying about rising bills." Article continues below Sunday Saver customers have already earned over 9.6 million kWh of free electricity (5.6 million hours), with over £2.4 million being credited onto Brits' bills2. To build the at-home viewing vibe, those hosting plan to buy picky bits (42%) strawberries & cream (41%), and fizz (23%), with 24% opting for themed decorations and a huge 88% even planning to dress the part in tennis whites for the occasion. Of the unlucky 26% who missed out on the ballot draw, many have decided to punt for a watch party at home instead – and six in 10 (59%) cited cost as the main reason. According to new research from EDF, 29 million Brits plan to tune into the finals from home, with 8 in 10 of them saying they'll be bringing the centre court vibes to their living rooms and hosting loved ones (22%). (Image: PA) But with millions set to host, it could be game, set and match for household bills. Nine in 10 (92%) say they'll be powering extra appliances this weekend to get the party started. From doing more cooking (44%) and bringing out back-up fans/heaters (34%) to powering extra fridges (28%) and projectors (19%) and keeping the TV on for longer than usual (34%), electricity costs could soon add up. To help Brits ace their watch parties, EDF is giving customers up to 22 hours of free electricity for the highly anticipated weekend. Customers already signed up to EDF's June Sunday Saver Challenge will be able to earn up to 16 hours of free electricity on Sunday for reducing their use during weekday peak hours (4-7pm) the week prior (week commencing 30th June). The provider has already given out nearly 10 million hours of free electricity, crediting customers over £2million since launching Sunday Saver*. On top of Sunday Saver, EDF is also offering every customer who registers for the next Sunday Saver challenge, a Free Electricity Day on Saturday - meaning the headline finals matches could be enjoyed for free on top of other matches across the weekend. EDF's Free Electricity Days give customers free electricity on days where they plan to use it the most. For more information on Free Electricity Days and Sunday Saver, visit Rich Hughes, Director of Retail at EDF, said: 'One of the biggest weekends for British sporting events is round the corner and we know from our research, a lot of people will be entertaining at home with friends and family. 'Our research showed us that cost is a key factor as to why so many Brits are choosing to tune in from home, turning their living rooms into their own personal centre court. "That's why, in addition to our Sunday Saver offer which customers are already making the most of, and can earn up to 16 hours of free electricity on Sunday, we're giving all customers a Free Electricity Day on Saturday too. It means they can power their parties, chill their drinks and enjoy the action without worrying about the electricity bills.'
