Cops subdue scissors-wielding man at MRT station
SUNGAI BULOH: Commuters at the Sungai Buloh MRT station faced a moment of panic yesterday when a man, armed with a pair of scissors, began chasing members of the public.
Police, with the aid of bystanders, moved in swiftly to arrest the man.
District police chief Superintendent Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor said the incident occurred around 11.15pm.
He said a woman had approached an auxiliary policeman. She told him she was chased by an unknown man at the station's lower level.
He said the policeman and a colleague, guided by the woman, proceeded to the lower level, where they spotted a man acting erratically on the staircase.
"The man, whose identity and ethnicity remain unconfirmed, was seen wielding a pair of scissors and was attempting to chase members of the public.
"Auxiliary police, with the assistance of several bystanders, managed to subdue and detain the suspect without further incident," he said.
Mohd Hafiz said the suspect will undergo a urine test to determine if he was under the influence of any substances.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958, which carries a minimum jail term of five years and a maximum of 10 years' upon conviction.
He is also being investigated under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act, which provides for a maximum fine of RM100.
"The suspect has been remanded for three days until July 9 to assist in investigations," he said.
