Cameron Young extends lead to 3 shots at Wyndham Championship
GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Cameron Young capped off a bogey-free second round on Saturday morning for an 8-under 62, giving him a three-shot lead in the Wyndham Championship as the New York native goes for his first PGA Tour win and tries to get in the Ryder Cup conversation. Young knocked in a 6-foot birdie putt on the par-3 16th when he returned to complete the storm-delayed second round at Sedgefield Country Club. He got up-and-down for par after driving into the rough on the 17th and closed with a par. Young was at 15-under 125. He is widely considered the best player without a win on a major tour, having finished runner-up seven times, including a World Golf Championship and at the British Open at St. Andrews. Defending champion Aaron Rai, who led Friday evening one shot behind, took double bogey on the 16th hole. He wound up four shots out of the lead. Mac Meissner, Joel Dahmen and Sungjae Im were three shots behind. The cut came at 3-under 137. This is the final tournament of the regular season that determines the 70 players who advance to the postseason. Among those who are left out of the lucrative FedEx Cup playoffs are Keith Mitchell, Max Homa and Sahith Theegala, who all missed the cut. Homa and Theegala were on the U.S. team at the Presidents Cup just 10 months ago. Danish twins Rasmus and Nicolai Hojgaard are still in the mix, but just barely. The cut was looking at 4-under par at one point. Both finished on 3 under and will now have 36 holes to play well enough to try to move into the top 70 — Nicolai is at No. 71, Rasmus at No. 82. Adam Scott is No. 85 and made the cut with one shot to spare. The third round was scheduled for threesomes off both sides Saturday afternoon. ___ AP golf:

2025 Wyndham Championship best bets: Five long-shot PGA Tour picks for Sedgefield CC
Gambling content 21+. The New York Post may receive an affiliate commission if you sign up through our links. Read our editorial standards for more information. One look at the betting board for the Wyndham Championship tells you what to expect this weekend on the PGA Tour. There is no clear-cut favorite, with Matt Fitzpatrick currently sitting atop the board at 19/1. The Englishman is the only player under 20/1, and there are only three others (Ben Griffin, Aaron Rai, and Keegan Bradley) shorter than 30/1. But it's not just the lukewarm favorites that make this a great environment for long-shot bettors; it's also the timing of the tournament. With just one week to go before the FedEx Cup Playoffs, there are a lot of players in this field who will have everything to play for, and others who have nothing to gain. That should set up an interesting weekend with players not only jockeying on the Wyndham leaderboard but also in the FedEx Cup points race. Throw in the fact that Sedgefield is an easy course (the last three winners finished -20, -18, and -20) that doesn't require you to bomb the ball off the tee, and you can see a path to success for just about anybody in this field. Let's have some fun. 2025 Wyndham Championship picks Sungjae Im (60/1, bet365) There was a time not too long ago when it seemed like Sungjae Im was on the fast track to establishing himself as a top-10 player. But a trying season has caused Im's star to lose its luster, and he now finds himself as a 60/1 long shot in a field that is lacking star power. The good news is that there could hardly be a better setup for the South Korean to find his game. Im has never missed the cut in six starts at the Wyndham, and he's got three top-10 finishes, including a runner-up, in his career at Sedgefield CC. Byeong-hun An is still searching for his first PGA Tour victory. Getty Images Byeong-hun An (90/1, FanDuel) Another horse for the course, Byeong-hun An has played the Wyndham Championship three times in the last six years. He finished third in 2019, 35th in 2021, and second in 2023. An's form has dipped in July, but he's only a few weeks removed from a T6 at the Canadian Open and a T14 at the Travelers. Webb Simpson (110/1, bet365) There is nobody in this field who loves the Wyndham Championship more than Webb Simpson. Not only is he a former winner here (2011), but he's got seven top-10 finishes, including two runner-ups and two bronze medals, in his last 10 starts here. Simpson adores this event so much that he named one of his children Wyndham. Betting on golf? Adam Hadwin (400/1, FanDuel) There's very little about Adam Hadwin's form that will push you to clicking his name this week, but this is the type of tournament that can snap anybody out of a funk. Almost every single entrant in this field can go low on this course, and they don't have to contend with the Scottie Schefflers of the world on the leaderboard. Hadwin is as talented as anybody in this section of the board, and he finished 10th here in 2021. Camilo Villegas is a former winner at the Wyndham Championship. Getty Images Camilo Villegas (1,000/1, bet365) The list of champions at the Wyndham would have you believe it was on the Senior Tour. Kevin Kisner, Jim Herman, Davis Love III all lifted this trophy in the last decade, so don't be afraid to have a couple of old-timers on your card. A former winner here, albeit back in 2014, Camilo Villegas is not in horrible form considering he is 1,000 to 1. The five-time PGA Tour winner isn't popping up on any leaderboards, but he's making cuts, which is more than a lot of players in this range can offer. 2025 Scottish Open picks, odds: Target Collin Morikawa and two long shots at the Renaissance Club
Gambling content 21+. The New York Post may receive an affiliate commission if you sign up through our links. Read our editorial standards for more information. The Scottish Open has become one of the most underrated tournaments on the golf calendar. Played at the picturesque Renaissance Club on Scotland's 'Golf Coast,' the Scottish Open has become a favorite for players, fans and bettors alike, and it is the perfect tune-up event for next week's Open Championship at Royal Portrush. Not only does it allow players to get accustomed to the links-style courses that dominate the golf landscape across the pond, but it also allows fans and bettors to adjust to the time difference so they're ready for the final major of the season. A lot of the 'warm-up events' for majors will feature paltry fields that are wanting for star power, but the Scottish Open boasts an elite field headlined by Scottie Scheffler (+500) and 2023 champion Rory McIlroy (+950). Links golf is often chaotic, and can produce surprising results, but since the Scottish Open became a co-sanctioned event between the PGA Tour and DP World Tour in 2022 it has been pretty chalky. Robert MacIntyre bucked that trend as a 45/1 outsider last year, but the two previous winners were McIlroy and Xander Schauffele, and big names like Scheffler, Tommy Fleetwood, Ludvig Aberg and Collin Morikawa dominated the leaderboard. And while that won't stop us from trying to find a couple of long shots to back this week, it does mean we'll start our card with a player closer to the top of the board. 2025 Scottish Open Picks Collin Morikawa (25/1, BetMGM) It's been an eventful few weeks for Collin Morikawa, but the World No. 5 got his game together at the Rocket Classic, finishing T8. That was an encouraging sign for the 2021 British Open Champion, as it was his first tournament since separating from Joe Greiner after just five tournaments together. Morikawa's tee-to-green game is elite, and he's an obvious fit for links-style golf with a Claret Jug on his mantle and T4 finish here last year. Sungjae Im has been hot and cold all season. Marc Lebryk-Imagn Images Sungjae Im (140/1, bet365) A couple of years ago, it felt like Sungjae Im was one of the most consistent players on the PGA Tour. The South Korean seemingly played every week, and he rarely looked out of sorts. This year has been a different story. Im has been a boom or bust player this season, with a handful of impressive performances (T5 at the Masters, third-place at the Sentry and T4 at the Farmers Insurnace) mixed in with six missed cuts and a handful of finishes outside the top 50. Perhaps a change in scenery will do Im wonders. Not only did he finish T4 here in 2024, but he followed that up with a T7 at the 2024 Open Championship, his third top-25 finish in four attempts at the Claret Jug. Betting on golf? Richard Mansell (350/1, bet365) If you do your homework, you'll find some terrific numbers on DP World Tour players with tournament-winning upside, like Richard Mansell. Not only did Mansell win the Singapore Classic back in March, but he also posted a T10 finish at this event last year. As an Englishman, Mansell will be more than comfortable playing on this kind of setup, which significantly levels the playing field against a lot of the players shipping in from the PGA Tour this week.
