'Burb Bites: Good vibes on the menu at Sunny Day Cafe

This week's bite is a recommendation for anyone looking for good food and a good mood. The bite: Carne asada skillet ($17) from Sunny Day Cafe. Two eggs any style (I opted for over easy) with hash browns, marinated ribeye steak, caramelized onions, jalapeño, sliced avocado and habanero cheese. The 'burb: Carmel. My take: Sunny Day is a fantastic way to start the day. The only downside is that it's a tough act to follow. The skillet was superb. Topped with chunks of tender steak and bursting with flavor provided by the savory layers beneath, no two bites were the same. The caramelized onions were a show-stealer, blending with egg yolk and avocado to introduce some sweetness to the experience. The vibe: Tucked between a barber shop and a tanning salon in a Carmel shopping plaza, Sunny Day Cafe is a bit of a hidden gem in up in HamCo. And my morning there felt like eating with family. The cozy interior and jovial banter among the staff created the perfect environment to enjoy Sunny Day's Mexican-inspired morning staples. Carne asada aside, other menu highlights include the chorizo-packed "fiesta benedict" and their signature chilaquiles. Plus: Al fresco diners, rejoice. Their patio is popping.

Paramount VetNet & Nickelodeon Host Drawing Workshop With the Wounded Warrior Project Featuring Artist & Marine Corps Veteran, Jeff Sornig

On April 25, during the Month of the Military Child, the Paramount Veterans Network teamed up with the Nickelodeon Community Efforts team to host another virtual Let's Draw event for the Wounded Warrior Project and their families, this time with their favorite Nick artist and Marine Corps veteran, Jeff Sornig guided the kids through drawing their favorite Nickelodeon characters, including SpongeBob. To kick things off, we aired a short episode of SpongeBob SquarePants featuring the song 'Best Day Ever.' One child even chimed in, saying April 25th really was the best day ever, especially because he didn't have to wear a jacket (Sunny Day!), which drew laughter from everyone. The day wrapped up with the kids proudly sharing their amazing drawings. As a parting gift, Jeff created a custom coloring page just for them, which was sent out after the event.'This event was pure joy. The kids didn't just draw their favorite Nickelodeon characters, they owned it! What really struck me, though, was how engaged the families were when Jeff shared his journey from the Marine Corps to becoming a Nickelodeon artist. You could see how much it meant to them to connect with someone who shares the same background and is now living their dream, doing something so fun and creative. The smiles, the laughs, the connection, and the inspiration shared at the event reminded us why we do what we do. Huge thanks to WWP, NiCE, and the always-inspiring Jeff for making it truly unforgettable… 'and the Best Day Ever!' said Betty Diaz, Paramount Veterans Network. A midwinter's sunny day

'Sunny Day' cast presents seaside tale of homecoming and second-chance romance The cast of "Sunny Day" turned Friday's press conference following the press screening of the film at Yongsan CGV into an impromptu variety show, the team's easy rapport spilling off-screen as they shared anecdotes and traded friendly jabs well past the scheduled time. The film takes this buoyant spirit as its guiding principle -- perhaps its only distinction -- to craft a narrative where life's thornier realities dissolve into perpetual brightness. The romantic drama treads familiar second-chance romance territory, though it comes nowhere near genre touchstones like "Architecture 101" (2012) or "On Your Wedding Day" (2018) in emotional depth. It follows top actress Seon-hee (Jung Hye-in) as she returns to her coastal hometown of Wando, South Jeolla Province, after a bitter divorce. There, she reconnects with her first love Dong-pil (Choi Daniel), who has also returned home to process his own trauma after dropping out of law school. "After my last thriller, I've been drawn to something different," said Choi, marking his return to screen after a seven-year hiatus. "There are plenty of dopamine-rush blockbusters out there. We wanted to offer something gentler." Gentle to a fault, as it turns out. Just as Seon-hee begins rebuilding her life with support from childhood friends Seok-jin (Han Sang-jin) and his wife Young-sook (Kim Jung-hwa), her estranged husband Sung-ki (Kang Eun-tak) rocks the boat with plans to develop a resort in their seaside community. The conflicts, dubious even on paper, are further reduced to fairy-tale simplicity — development schemes and emotional wounds alike serve as mere plot devices in a work that steadfastly eludes any semblance of the complexities of the real world. Jung, taking on her first lead romantic role, found familiar faces among the cast: She and Kang portrayed a divorcing couple in the 2018 drama "Love to the End." "Having that prior experience helped, especially for such emotionally demanding roles," Jung said. "Less tears in take two," Kang quipped, drawing laughs from the room. The film's relentlessly upbeat tone and parade of corny schtick play like a made-for-TV movie, though that seems precisely the point. "Sometimes you just need a story that feels like a sunny day," director Lee Chang-moo said, who drew on childhood memories in choosing Wando and nearby Cheongsando Island as primary locations. "Those clear skies from my Gwangju vacations stayed with me." The result is a work that seems content being a simple, feel-good offering that matches its director's vision of being literally like a sunny day. "Sunny Day" hits theaters Feb. 19.
