Sunwest says it's conducting repairs on flood control projects in Oriental Mindoro

Sunwest Construction and Development Corporation said Wednesday that it has started its rehabilitation of the damaged portions of its flood control projects in Oriental Mindoro. In a press statement, Sunwest said the restoration is being undertaken based on its standard warranty commitments. The company is among the 15 contractors named by President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. as those who were awarded with most flood control projects. The firm added that the repairs started on August 2 right after the heavy rains, and went full blast on August 11. Sunwest said the completion is being eyed by the end of the month. 'Sunwest is committed to ensuring that our projects remain reliable and resilient,' the company said. 'The rehabilitation is being conducted in coordination with the DPWH.'' Based on the firm's assessment, approximately 5% of the company's implemented flood control project in the province had sustained damage. Repairs are already in progress to ensure continued protection for communities vulnerable to seasonal flooding. 'We value the trust of the public and our partners in government,' the company said. 'Our priority is to deliver long-term solutions that safeguard lives and livelihoods in Mindoro and beyond.' Oriental Mindoro is one of the flood-prone areas recently cited by Marcos, who has ordered a review of the flood control projects across the country. Earlier, Governor Humerlito 'Bonz' Dolor expressed his dismay over the damaged dikes in his province, which was hit by floods due to the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat and the consecutive storms last month, even as these were put up fairly recently. Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Manuel Bonoan has vowed that the agency will conduct an intensive audit on the damaged dikes in the province. — BM, GMA Integrated News
