NFL: 'I wanted to finish it here': Emotional David Andrews retires after a decade as Patriots' heart and soul on the O-Line
David Andrews, the steadfast center who anchored the New England Patriots ' offensive line for a decade, announced his retirement on Monday(June 2), concluding a career marked by an unwavering loyalty to a single franchise. "I didn't want to go do it for another organization," Andrews said, fighting back tears during his retirement ceremony at Gillette Stadium. "That wasn't what I had in mind to finish my career. I wanted to finish it here and I did." Undrafted out of the University of Georgia in 2015, Andrews defied expectations to become a cornerstone of the Patriots' offensive line. His journey with the Patriots Over ten seasons, he appeared in 124 regular-season games, starting 121, and played in three Super Bowls, securing victories in Super Bowl LI and Super Bowl LIII. Live Events His journey was not without adversity. Andrews missed the entire season due to blood clots in his lungs in 2019, a life-threatening condition that cast uncertainty over his career. Yet, he returned to the field, exemplifying determination and grit. A shoulder injury limited him to just four games in 2024, leading to his release by the Patriots in March 2025 with a failed physical designation. Despite the unexpected release, Andrews chose to retire rather than continue his career elsewhere. "Gratitude," Andrews reflected. "For 26 years I've been blessed to play this game and that's all I could think about is gratitude. Especially for an offensive lineman where it's not about you, it's about the team." Support from family, friends, and teammates His retirement ceremony was attended by family, teammates, and notable figures from the Patriots organization. Former quarterback Tom Brady sent a heartfelt message: "Loved every minute for you and loved being your quarterback. I'm with you every step of the way. You deserve this day and congratulations." Longtime teammate Devin McCourty praised Andrews' leadership: "What I loved about it is you made everyone around you better. As an undrafted free agent, you came in, you broke every door in front of you. You became a starter, a captain, a leader, and you did it year in and year out no matter what you were going through." End of an era Andrews' departure marks the end of an era for the Patriots, as he was the last remaining offensive starter from the 2018 championship team. His presence will be missed both on and off the field, but his legacy as a dedicated Patriot endures. "I wanted to finish it here, and I did," Andrews affirmed, leaving behind a decade of memories and a lasting impact on the New England Patriots. Economic Times WhatsApp channel )

Longtime Patriots center David Andrews retiring from NFL after ‘shocking' release
He was one of the final two players on the Patriots' roster who was a part of their dynasty. Then, jarringly, he was cut loose. And now, he's calling it quits. David Andrews, the former Patriots center who won two Super Bowls snapping the ball to Tom Brady, is retiring from the NFL, New England announced Wednesday. The 32-year-old will hold a press conference Monday to give his farewell remarks. 4 Patriots center David Andrews holds the Lombardi Trophy after Super Bowl LIII on Feb. 3, 2019. MediaNews Group via Getty Images Andrews, who was limited to four games last season due to a shoulder injury, was released in March and was stunned by the news as he reacted on his 'Quick Snap' podcast. 'You're a little shocked by it,' Andrews said at the time. 'But … I've been so blessed. I've had 10 years and never got fired. I was living a pipe dream that I would hopefully make the decision myself. What did Bill [Belichick] say? 'There's a light at the end of the tunnel, and you're hoping it's not a train.' I was hoping it wasn't a train, and it was a train. 'But like I said, I respect their decision.' 4 David Andrews (l.) with his wife Mackenzie (r.) before Tom Brady's Patriots Hall of Fame induction on June 12, 2024. Andrews, who signed with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent out of Georgia in 2015, started in 121 of his 124 appearances with the team and became a captain. He missed the entire 2019 season due to blood clots in his lungs. After Andrews' release, the only player left on the Patriots' roster who had won a Super Bowl with the team was long snapper Joe Cardona, and he was later released after the NFL draft. Cardona was signed by the Dolphins earlier this month.

NFL analyst ranks Matthew Stafford's supporting cast inside the top 10
NFL analyst ranks Matthew Stafford's supporting cast inside the top 10 Matthew Stafford is the key to the Los Angeles Rams' 2025 season. That is not hyperbole, as the Rams have won at least 10 games and made the playoffs every season Stafford also played at least 10 games. Fortunately, L.A. has had a great supporting cast around Stafford (barring injuries) during those years. And even when Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua both missed time earlier in the 2024 season, Stafford rallied the team when they returned and drove them to the NFC Divisional Round. The Rams' supporting cast in 2025 will be relatively similar, with the exception of swapping Kupp for Davante Adams. For some, that's an upgrade. FOX Sports' David Helman, meanwhile, ranked the Rams' group around Stafford as the sixth-best supporting cast heading into this season. "I'm just begging the Rams' offensive line to stay healthy in 2025, because this group should be scintillating if it can," Helman wrote. "Matthew Stafford and Puka Nacua are already must-see TV, and now Davante Adams — even at the age of 32 — should lend a vertical, downfield element to the offense. The backfield, led by Kyren Williams, is strong, and the Rams just juiced their tight end depth by drafting Terrance Ferguson in the second round. With Sean McVay overseeing the playcalling, I legitimately think this could be the Rams' best offense since that incredible 2018 group that reached Super Bowl LIII." The addition of the rookie tight end should be a major boon for a Rams offense that lacked stability at that position for the entirety of last season and for most of McVay's tenure as head coach. Ferguson, Adams, and the continuity of the rest of the offense should go far for L.A. in 2025.

Bill Belichick explains why he pushed former Patriots WR Julian Edelman so hard
Bill Belichick explains why he pushed former Patriots WR Julian Edelman so hard Former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick explained why he coached wide receiver Julian Edelman so hard in a recent appearance on "The Pivot Podcast". Edelman is recognized as one of the toughest receivers in Patriots' franchise history. Despite being undersized and out of position, the former Kent State quarterback made a name for himself at the NFL level. He became one of Tom Brady's favorite receiving targets and helped add three more Super Bowl banners at Gillette Stadium. Under Belichick, he recorded 6,822 receiving yards and 36 touchdowns in the regular season. He was also one of the best postseason receivers in NFL history with 118 receptions for 1,442 yards and six touchdowns. Former NFL All-Pro running back Fred Taylor, who played for New England during Edelman's rookie season, told Belichick that Edelman was close to walking off a plank during his rookie year. He then asked the six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach why he pushed Edelman so hard. 'He was a great competitor. …It's hard, you know? It's hard," said Belichick. "And you gotta embrace the grind and the toughness of it. But, Julian did that. He was a great competitor." There's little doubt that Edelman was one of the most clutch and consistent wide receivers in Patriots history. His resume speaks for itself, and it's the reason why he's set to be inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame later this year. From roster hopeful to Super Bowl LIII MVP, it's a story that will never be forgotten in New England. Follow Patriots Wire on Twitter and Facebook.

NFL has no comment on Patriots' schedule release video featuring Dave Portnoy
The schedule release makes for strange bedfellows. For the NFL and Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, they've apparently found common ground after more than a decade of hostility. Only two days after the 10-year anniversary of Portnoy's arrest for staging a sit-in at the lobby of the league office in protest of the Tom Brady #Deflategate suspension, Portnoy presented the Patriots' 2025 schedule as an 'emergency press conference.' The arrest resulted in a banishment of Portnoy and other Barstool personalities from league events. Portnoy commissioned a popular T-shirt featuring Commissioner Roger Goodell in a clown nose. Four years later, Portnoy was physically ejected from Super Bowl LIII in Atlanta. Three years later, the Portnoy complaint made its way to Goodell's Congressional testimony regarding workplace issues with the Commanders organization. Goodell claimed to have no knowledge of the issue. Now, the league has no comment on Portnoy's presence in the Patriots' video. Even though Portnoy makes direct reference to the Goodell clown-nose shirt during his comments. It remains to be seen whether this ends the league's ban on Barstool. Based on Goodell's 2022 comment and the league declining comment after the Patriots' video, it looks like the league is declaring ignorance and retreating.
