Republicans demand probe into DOD's taxpayer-funded charges at casinos, bars and nightclubs
FIRST ON FOX: House Oversight Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., and Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa., are demanding sweeping reforms to the federal government's use of charge cards after thousands of highly questionable charges were uncovered at the Department of Defense, including at casinos, bars and nightclubs using taxpayer dollars. In a letter addressed to Comptroller General Gene Dodaro, Ernst and Comer called on the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to launch a comprehensive review of all federal charge card programs. The demand follows alarming findings from recent audits that point to systemic failures in oversight, including the issuance of nearly two charge cards per federal employee and more than $40 billion in spending last fiscal year alone. The Pentagon's inspector general found nearly 8,000 Defense Department credit card transactions at "high-risk locations" – including casino ATMs – over the past year. An additional 3,246 transactions occurred at bars and nightclubs, many of them on federal holidays, Super Bowl Sunday, St. Patrick's Day, the day of UFC 300, Cinco de Mayo and New Year's Eve. Doge And Agencies Cancel 200,000 Federal Government Credit Cards "It is indefensible for Department of Defense bureaucrats to waste tax dollars at clubs, casinos, and bars, racking up charges on Super Bowl Sunday, St. Patrick's Day, Cinco de Mayo, and federal holidays," said Ernst. Read On The Fox News App The DOD is not alone. Recent GAO reports have found agencies consistently fail to use tools to analyze purchase card data and prevent fraud, the letter notes. "With Washington $36 trillion in debt, the last thing we need is bureaucrats maxing out their tab and sticking taxpayers with the bill. There should never be more credit cards than federal employees, and I'm working to create accountability government-wide." $1,300 Coffee Cups, 8,000% Overpay For Soap Dispensers Show Waste As Doge Locks In On Pentagon The letter also highlighted the illegal practice of "split purchases," where government employees intentionally divide large transactions to stay under the $3,500 micro-purchase threshold – the largest purchase that can be put on a federal charge card. Despite being a clear violation of federal regulations, these practices reportedly continue due to inadequate monitoring and enforcement. Ernst and Comer's request urges the GAO to investigate criteria for issuing cards, agency compliance with internal controls, the frequency of risky transactions – including at marijuana dispensaries, dating services, and gambling platforms – and whether agencies are appropriately closing accounts after employees leave government service. In a particularly damning detail, the lawmakers noted that no local purchase card program officials at the DOD could provide examples of analyzing card spending to reduce costs, despite long-standing recommendations from the Office of Management and Budget to do so. "I'm working to create accountability government-wide. It's time to cut up the plastic and put a stop to the reckless spending," said Ernst. The GAO review, if initiated, could affect hundreds of federal agencies covered under the Chief Financial Officers Act and could lead to a sweeping overhaul of how federal employees use government-issued charge cards. "American taxpayers shouldn't be stuck paying for federal bureaucrats' splurges on government-issued credit cards. Tax dollars are meant to fund essential government services, not dating apps, nightclubs, or bar tabs," Comer said in a article source: Republicans demand probe into DOD's taxpayer-funded charges at casinos, bars and nightclubs

NFL Draft 2025 first-round grades: Live grades for every pick
NFL Draft 2025 first-round grades: Live grades for every pick Finally, finally, finally: It's NFL Draft time. The NFL calendar has three flagship days: the opening day of the regular season, Super Bowl Sunday and, of course, the first night of the NFL Draft. After a long (and, at times, silly) grind of an offseason, we have finally reached the first round of the NFL Draft. Dearest readers, let us rejoice. The 2025 NFL Draft is finally here. 2025 NFL DRAFT: Every team's biggest needs, from the Titans to the Eagles The NFL Draft is unique because it is effectively a sale of hope. It is football fans' official respite that things might, one day, be different for their teams. Nothing sells optimism quite like a young, doe-eyed prospect with the potential to take over a game. Grading these respective NFL Draft selections is by no means an exact science. A great or poor grade is nowhere close to a referendum on someone's capacity at the highest level of this sport. With all of that said, we come from an informed place with our first-round grades. They are our best estimate of a prospect's talent, fit with their new team and whether someone might have 'reached' a bit too much. We will hit a few home runs. We will also inevitably strike out in an embarrassing fashion. Full stop. NFL DRAFT BUSTS: Every NFL team's worst first-round pick (from Ryan Leaf to Mitch Trubisky) In the end, know that we come from a good place with each and every grade below. Some DMV churches stepping up security for Easter Sunday
The Brief Some churches across the DMV are upping security ahead of the Easter weekend. FOX 5 spoke with several pastors on Friday who say they are expecting more parishioners than usual this Easter Sunday. DUMFRIES, Va. - Security teams are discussing strategies to make sure worshipers are safe during services. What they're saying Easter Sunday is what one pastor described as the "Super Bowl Sunday" for churches nationwide and there are security measures in place at many churches across our region, including at Grace Church in Dumfries. FOX 5 spoke with several pastors on Friday who say they are expecting more parishioners than usual this Easter Sunday. "We have a tremendous ministry, security team, every Sunday. They are on site so they'll be throughout the building. We will have our 8:30 a.m. and our 10:30 a.m. services. We will have some overflow parking as well as some overflow seating so I recommend you get there about 15 minutes early," said Bishop Derek Grier with Grace Church. In some cases, security this Sunday may include police in plain clothes, uniformed officers and private security, plus the church's security team. Prince William County police tell FOX 5 they're monitoring but so far have no indications of any issues. Why you should care Police and security will be monitoring every aspect of the worship services. Many churches partner with area police departments for security and traffic control in addition to private security and church security teams manning the entrances and exits. Grace Church's Bishop Derek Grier says he's expecting 4,000 worshipers this Easter Sunday for his sermon. By most accounts, the pastors who spoke with FOX 5 say they will also be streaming their service.

Guess the busiest day of the year for pizza deliveries
Cast your mind back to 1994. June 17, 1994, to be exact. O.J. Simpson was supposed to turn himself in to the LA Police Department by 11 a.m. that day. Murder charges had been filed, the arraignment was scheduled for that afternoon. By noon, O.J. had not shown up. At 1:50 p.m., the LA PD declared O.J. Simpson a fugitive. At 5:51 p.m., Simpson made a cellphone call from a white Ford Bronco – the call was traced to a freeway in Orange Country. At 5:56 p.m., the California Highway Patrol begins pursuit. For the next 90 minutes, what unfolded was something viewers had never seen before. It was a low-speed car chase on the 405 freeway in Los Angeles, as Simpson's white Ford Bronco was being followed by over a dozen police cars. Later, at his Brentwood home, O.J. Simpson was taken into custody at 8:47 p.m. That low-speed car chase was watched live by a reported 95 million people. To put that in context, it rivaled the Super Bowl for TV ratings. Because it was dinner time on the west coast, and later on the east coast, people sat glued to their televisions. And because nobody wanted to miss a moment of this bizarre event, no one went out for dinner, and millions didn't want to make dinner. So they ordered pizza. That day, June 17, 1994, ended up being the busiest day in Domino's Pizza history. Strange things happen when strange things happen. Speaking of pizza, here's a multiple-choice question for you: what is the busiest day of the year for pizza deliveries? 1. New Year's Eve 2. Halloween 3. Super Bowl Sunday The answer is Halloween. Parents all over North America are busy that night, taking little trick or treaters out around the neighbourhood, and greeting ghosts and goblins at the front door. So, many parents opt for a quick and easy dinner. And pizza orders surge.

Carl Junction community gathers in prayer for student battling illness
CARL JUNCTION, Mo. — The power of prayer was on full display tonight in Carl Junction. Many members of the community gathered at Bulldog Stadium to pray for Elijah Schultz. The 7th-grader has been at Children's Mercy in Kansas City since this weekend battling meningitis. You'll recall, we featured him prior to his appearance in a commercial on 'Super Bowl Sunday.' RELATED: CJ student featured in Super Bowl commercial Eli has a passion for football, and plays quarterback. According to the family, he has a team of doctors, disease, nephrology and pain, trying to determine the origin of the meningitis. On social media, the family also said they were humbled beyond words when it came to tonight's event. 'Shannon and Tobin both work in the school district. Eli is super involved in, you know, academics and athletics and he's just a very well-loved kid. So, I just want everyone to see what the power of community and the power of prayer – and just, gathering together – and the power of numbers – what that can mean for the Schultz family,' said Kerri Sunday, event organizer. 'The Schultz family is very well-loved and known in our community. They are constant supporters of educators, as they are educators themselves, but also of students. They are amazing Bulldog supporters of all students,' said Ronda Lawson, CJ special education teacher. The family has been posting updates on Facebook, which you can find here.
