Michael Bay & Will Smith Part Company On Netflix Action Film ‘Fast And Loose'

EXCLUSIVE: Netflix is back out looking for a director for Fast and Loose, after Michael Bay and Will Smith were unable to bridge creative differences and Bay shook loose of the film Wednesday. Fast and Loose will star Smith as a man who wakes up in Tijuana with no memories. As he pieces together his past, he learns he's been living two lives: one as a crime kingpin and the other as an undercover CIA agent. The script by Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, Chris Bremner and Eric Pearson. The film has action as well as comic moments, but Deadline hears Bay wanted more emphasis on the former while Smith wanted to lean into the latter. Bay has plenty else to do. He is discussing with Paramount a return to the Transformers fold with a new version of that tentpole, and he's also percolating at Universal OutRun, an adaptation of the video game that is a star vehicle for Sydney Sweeney. Jayson Rothwell is scripting with Bay and Brad Fuller producing with Sweeney. A reunion between Bay and Smith was significant because their stars launched together with 1995's Bad Boys. That film was Bay's film directing debut, and it was the vehicle that provided first glimpse of how well Smith would fare as a charismatic action star. Fast and Loose is being produced by Smith's Westbrook Studios and Kelly McCormick and David Leitch for 87North. James Gunn to Write & Direct Next DCU ‘Super-Family' Movie

Before the DCU kicked off, James Gunn promised he wouldn't be writing and directing everything. How could he? But he did write and direct the DCU's first entry Superman to great success. And now it seems like, Gunn might be on the hook for writing and directing franchise enteries that have to do with the Man of Steel himself. Gunn recently teased that he was already working on Superman's next big movie entry into the DCU. But was quick to clarify it wasn't a direct Superman sequel, but something else that involved the beloved character. Now, we have no more clarity on the contents of the project, but we know Gunn will also direct the movie. Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav confirmed in an earnings call that James Gunn would write and direct the 'next movie in the Super-Family' collection for the DCU. Yep, that's all that was said of Gunn's next project for the DCU, that it would be the 'next movie in the Super-Family.' We're not totally sure that's a complete thought, but it does hint that Superman and Supergirl will be involved. Maybe some other members of the 'Super-Family' that we haven't met yet will also appear in the DCU? There's always Superboy… That's Lex Luthor and Superman's son…well, a product of their combined DNA, anyway. That makes him their son, right? That's a Super-Family that we'd like to see James Gunn explore. But, we digress. In any case, we probably won't know too much more for a while. A Clayface movie is also in the works. But, we suppose with the success of Superman, the DCU and Warner Bros. Discovery would love to see David Corenswet's hero again soon. We'll just have to wait and see what exactly James Gunn's next 'Super-Family' movie will be about—but if Gunn writes and directs it, we bet we won't will disappointed when we see it. We Finally Have a New Clue About James Gunn's Next DC Movie

Superman is DC's biggest hit in years, so, of course, the Man of Steel will be flying to the big screen once again. But in what movie? Well, we now have our best clue yet, even though it's still a little murky. In recent weeks, DC Studios president and writer and director of Superman, James Gunn, has teased that he's been writing a new DC movie that features Superman but isn't a Superman sequel. Most minds immediately jump to something like World's Finest, which could team up a new Batman with Superman, but that's just speculation. Gunn hasn't confirmed anything. Then, Thursday morning, Variety reported that CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, David Zaslav, said on an earnings call that Gunn will write and direct 'the next installment in the Super-Family.' That's an intriguing statement with various potential implications, but, before speculating, most fans know the move is to check James Gunn's Threads account. That's where he likes to confirm, deny, and clarify certain rumors, and, as of publication, Gunn has done that… sort of. In response to a fan asking if he was, indeed, 'preparing for the next installment in the Super-Family,' the always-savvy Gunn focused on that first part of the question, replying, 'I am actually past preparing and well into writing.' Which, again, we knew. What Gunn didn't object to, though, was the phrase 'Super-Family,' and that's the big clue here. What does that mean, exactly? Well, for most of us, our minds jump to the movie itself, where we saw Supergirl, played by Milly Alcock, appear. She's Superman's cousin, Krypto's owner, and the next DC hero with a film coming to the big screen. Two cousins and a dog certainly qualify as a 'super-family.' And if they had to team up, the adventure could take them practically anywhere across the DC Universe. That would be exciting. However, we also have to look at the messenger. It was David Zaslav who said 'Super-Family,' not someone with a deep knowledge of comic books. There's every chance in the world a business-driven CEO saying that just means something like 'the next in the family of Superman movies.' Or even the family of 'superhero movies.' It's a phrase that can be read as either very specific or very vague, depending on point of view. And, we think, that was on purpose. Gunn, to his credit, has suggested we'll learn what he's been writing and will next direct sooner rather than later. And, if we had to bet on it, we think it probably does feature Supergirl and Krypto alongside Superman. We just don't know for sure yet. What are your thoughts here? Do you think Gunn's next movie is about Kryptonian heritage? Or is David Zaslav speaking in broader strokes? Let us know below. Want more io9 news?
