The New ‘Fantastic Four: First Steps' Trailer Is an Actual Retro Throwback

The SuperFantastic summer at the movies has kicked off with the release of Superman, but Marvel Studios The Fantastic Four: First Steps is making sure you know it's not too far behind. The release of the latest trailer for Fantastic Four evokes a feel-good, retro space-age vibe that complements the Man of Steel's themes. Unlike Barbenheimer before it, the SuperFantastic double feature is primed to make you feel like it's a return to the Silver Age of comic books. Take a look below: In the latest look at the film, you get a trailer styled like the old 60s adverts for television shows and movies. The ensemble of the Fantastic Four is introduced with more looks at their powers, with a nostalgic tone that evokes Bewitched, much like WandaVision did—which makes sense for the director, Matt Shakman, of the Disney+ series fame. They even got the movie trailer voice guy to do the old-timey narration over their introductions and retro-styled the superpower showcase. It's simply swell! It's really neat to see the trailer take a more lighthearted approach with the time period Fantastic Four is aiming to evoke. Even the action feels textured in the style of Old Hollywood, but with our modern-day flair shining through. Seeing Johnny try to hail Ben Grimm's catchphrase out of him was a nice touch and makes us excited to see more of Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach's chemistry as the bro duo of the team. Then, of course, we get more of Sue (Vanessa Kirby) and Reed (Pedro Pascal) with baby Richards, which is a little nerve-wracking, as having a baby in the mix of the danger from Silver Surfer (Julia Graner) and Galactus makes the stakes all that much higher. How high? Well, enough to make us go 'gadzooks!' if they're going to soar through time and space to make it to the current MCU timeline. The Fantastic Four: First Steps opens July 25.
