Local motorcycle cop takes inspiration from Ponch and Jon: Support the Shield

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) — It takes a very special person to put on the boots, gloves, Kevlar and straddle up on a 114 cubic inch Harley-Davidson motorcycle and enforce the law. That's exactly what Jefferson County Deputy Sheriff Aaron Kilbon does every day at work. FOX31 Newsletters: Sign up to get breaking news sent to your inbox 'Back in the '80s as a kid, I watched CHiPs, I watched Street Hawk. And while this thing doesn't do 300 miles an hour, it's definitely fun to ride.' Said Kilbon. The show California Highway Patrol was popular in the late 70s to early 80s. According to IMDb, the show follows a new officer, Jon Baker, as he learns from undercover federal investigator Frank 'Ponch' Poncherello. Deputy Kilbon has been riding the roads in Jefferson County for three years. And he came from a land far and away to do it. 'I'm from the United Kindom. I'm British,' he said. Being a motorcycle police officer is a dangerous duty, and Kilbon has had his share of close calls. That doesn't faze him one bit, he loves what he does. 'I like people, and we make about one thousand traffic stops a year. If you like working with people, the job is easy,' Kilbon told FOX31. Nearly 1,000 vehicles seized in Aurora through 3 strike policy since new law began The most challenging part of his job? 'You have to stay engaged, and you have to be willing to earn the wings and not just keep them. Riding this bike, you get skill fade, so you have to stay engaged. You have to train hard and you have to treat it for the respect that it is,' Kilbon said. For putting it on the line every time Deputy Aaron Kilbon saddles up, this month's Support the Shield honor is going in his saddlebag. Ponch and Jon would be proud. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Police training officer takes pride in training new recruits

PARKER (KDVR) — For Parker Police Department training officer Jake Pridemore, it's just another day. For recruit officer Danielle Terry, it's not just another day. But it's a good day. 'Training is hard, but I love it every day. I learned a lot. Pridemore is a great training officer,' Terry said. FOX31 Newsletters: Sign up to get breaking news sent to your inbox The Parker Police Department has been in service for 42 years. Today, 79 sworn officers call it home. Make that 80 with Officer Terry. 'I think for trainees, new hires, it's a lot of things going on. When to turn on your lights, call the traffic stop on the radio, how to speak with people,' said Pridemore. Officer Jake Pridemore has been with Parker PD for five years now. A Parker native himself, he said carrying the badge here has special meaning. 'I've always had a calling to serve and be part of something bigger and better than myself. What better place to do it than my hometown?' Pridemore said. As officer-in-training Danielle Terry finishes her traffic stop, Pridemore looks on with a critical eye. 'She (Terry) found her speeder, picked him out, did a phenomenal job with the radio traffic. Phenomenal job with parking her patrol car and contacting him,' said Pridemore. For putting it on the line every day and for training new officers who will be putting it on the line as well, this month's Support the Shield honor goes to Parker PD's training officer Jake Pridemore. 'It's awesome, thank you. I'm just blessed to have this opportunity. Thank you very much,' Pridemore said. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Community Response Team deputy recognized alongside team of dogs

DOUGLAS COUNTY (KDVR) — Douglas County Deputy Sheriff Zach Zepeski calls his job the best job he has ever worked. He's with the Community Response Team for the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. 'Anyone who is in distress the first number they call is 91,1 and usually the cops are the first ones there,' said Zepeski. Colorado's longest-tenured school resource officer builds special bonds with students In 2017 the DCSO Community Response Team began. It started with one deputy and one clinician. Now there are nine teams throughout the county. Deputy Zepeski says that is a good thing. 'A lot of people don't really know how to access the mental health treatment that they need. After we talk to them and we determine what resources would be best for them. We continue to help them on the back end so they don't fall into distress again,' said Zepeski. At the Highlands Ranch substation, you will find Zepeski and 12 other members of the CRT — make that 13. That would be Olive the golden retriever. She is a CRT therapy dog. 'She is here to help us comfort children,' said Zepeski. Children, adults, victims of crime and even those who commit certain crimes can benefit from the CRT. FOX31 Newsletters: Sign up to get breaking news sent to your inbox Recognizing and helping people get emotional support through a crisis is what Zepeski does. That's why he is this month's Support the Shield recipient. 'That is really cool. Thank you so much to whoever put me in for it. My son is going to think this is the coolest thing ever,' said Zepeski. Deputy Zach Zepeski gets the award, and Olive gets a snack. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
