Editorial criticises opposition silence on school timing revision in Kerala

Kozhikode: An editorial published in Suprabhatham, the mouthpiece of Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulema, criticised the silence of the opposition parties over the revision of school timings in the state. The editorial questioned what the silence of opposition political parties, which have not yet taken a strong stance on the matter, signifies. It suggested that if they support the time change that affects religious education and the general community, they should make it clear. The public will then recognise that the opposition's stance on protecting minority rights is opportunistic, the editorial stated. It added that the education department claims that extending study time by half-an-hour in the morning and evening will not affect madrasa education. Madrasa classes for high school students are typically scheduled until 8am in most places, lasting one-and-a-half to two hours. If school time starts earlier, it will impact madrasa education. Children in villages must reach distant high schools after madrasa classes. Most students rely on public transportation and if transportation is not available on time, religious study time will have to be reduced, the article noted. Devotees throng to see Swarna Rathotsavam of Goddess Padmavati in Tiruchanur

Several devotees participated in the Swarna Rathotsavam (golden chariot festival) held as part of Vasanthotsavam at Sri Padmavati Ammavari temple in Tiruchanur, Tirupati district on Monday. According to the temple priests, the sun rays during the summer season cause severe distress and suffering and worshipping Goddess Padmavati during Vasanthotsavam removes both physical and mental heat of the devotees. The priests said that the devotees who see the idol of the Goddess on the golden chariot on the second day of Vasanthotsavam, their wishes will be fulfilled and there will be no re-birth to them. As part of the celebrations, the Goddess was awakened with Suprabhatham and Sahasranamarachana. Later, she was taken to the Swarnaratham Mandapam for a procession on golden chariot across the four Mada streets of the temple to give darshan to the devotees at 9.45 a.m. From 2.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m., Snapana Thirumanjanam celebration was held in Friday Garden, where abhishekam was performed with turmeric, kumkum, milk, curd, honey, sandalwood powder, and coconut water. From 7.30 pm to 8.30 pm, the goddess was taken on another procession through the four Mada streets of the temple.
