Third-Gen Toyota Supra Restored By GR Garage- Here's What It Looks Like
The name Toyota Supra is a name revered by the motorheads. Similarly, there are other names in the Japanese brand's arsenal that have a place in the hearts of enthusiasts. To keep all such loyalists happy, Toyota announced in 2019 that it would begin making replacement parts for the heritage parts. Over time, the automaker expanded the program to include third-generation and fourth-generation Supras, Land Cruisers, and other vehicles. As part of a promotional scheme, the automaker restored a third-gen Supra at the GR Garage. The work was taken care of by the motorsport division, Gazoo Racing. The GR Garage's restoration efforts were focused on a Supra model that was not sold in the US market, i.e., a 1992 Supra 2.5 GT. Seeking power from a 2.5-litre twin-turbocharged inline-six engine, the power of the vehicle was capped at 276 hp. This was done to keep it under the terms of the "gentleman's agreement" among the Japanese car makers. Although the car lacks the popularity of the fourth-gen version of the vehicle, it still has a huge following. Also Read: Ferrari Burned To Ashes After 1 Hour Of Driving, Pictures Go Viral While inspecting the car before initiating the process of restoration, the GR technicians found rust and a few bodged repairs on the car. Hence, they picked up their tools and took apart the car down to the shell before welding the replacement parts and painting the car to restore its former glory. This took the efforts of two technicians for over six months. As one might expect, the result was a brand-new 1992 Supra. Here's a video to view the process. Inspiring Toyota and other manufacturers in the Japanese market, Mazda was one of the first manufacturers to initiate the trend of offering in-house restorations along with the production of new parts for old cars. The first car to go through the process was a Miata. Later on, Nissan and Honda jumped on the bandwagon, and this resulted in the NSX restoration program and parts for Skylines under the NISMO brand, respectively.

Goodbye to a Legend: 2026 Toyota GR Supra MkV Final Edition
Toyota is getting ready to say goodbye to the fifth generation of its beloved Supra. But the Toyota GR Supra MkV isn't just going to go away. Toyota is sending it off strongly with a quicker and more aggressive farewell package, the Toyota GR Supra MkV Final Edition. It's been just 6 years since Akio Toyoda brought the Supra back to the streets. It took a still-controversial collaboration with BMW, but the result was a serious sports car — one that lived up to the iconic badge it wore. Toyota has made small changes to improve the car every year since it was launched. The changes are part of what is called 'kaizen' in Japan — continuous improvement, making things a little bit better every time. The 2026 Toyota GR Supra MkV Final Edition gets the newest of those changes, helping to make it even better. We'll start listing the changes at the pavement and work up. The Final Edition will get Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires to maximize traction. New suspension settings change the camber setting at all four wheels, which Toyota says adds cornering stability. The electronic dampers are also new, or at least the calibration has been changed. They work with a new front sway bar to help heighten the car's cornering abilities. New rubber mounts for the rear subframe and bushings in the front control arms also tighten up the car's responses. Toyota GR has tweaked the rear differential for the Final Edition. Toyota's racing team has also altered the engine and automatic transmission control maps to reduce understeer. Larger Brembo brakes should deliver more predictable stopping even through extended sessions of fast driving. The 2026 Toyota GR Supra MkV Final Edition also has cosmetic and aero enhancements. The ducktail rear spoiler and front wheel arch flaps, for example, help reduce lift. The spoiler, along with the mirror caps, are made from carbon fiber simply to make the car look better. It won't arrive until the fall, but Toyota will also offer an even more aggressive look for the Final Edition cars. The GT4 style pack is inspired by Toyota's GT4-series racing Supras and adds new side graphics, a matte-finished spoiler, and red mirror caps. It will come in two colors, Burnout and Undercover, which aren't available without the package. Only the 3.0L twin-turbo I6 will be available for the 2026 Supra. It makes 382 horsepower and 368 pound-feet of torque, and Toyota offers an eight-speed automatic or a six-speed stick. 2026 Toyota GR Supra MkV Final Edition cars start from $67,950 for either the stick or the slushbox. That's a big increase over lesser-grade cars, but Toyota will still offer base and Premium-spec Supras for 2026. The base model costs $56,900 plus destination, Premium $60,050. Sales start in the spring, and production of the Supra will end in spring 2026. Are we expecting a gen VI GR Supra? Yes. But Toyota hasn't confirmed anything yet, so as of now, this could be your last chance to get behind the wheel of a new Supra. Even if it isn't a 10-second car. Most Fun Car? 2026 Toyota GR Supra Enters Its Last Year With A Sharpened Race-Inspired Final Edition
The tale of the mighty Toyota Supra is coming to a close once again. Fifth-generation Supra production is slated to end in the spring of 2026, and no mention has been made about a potential sixth-gen model. To commemorate the final year of MkV Supra production, Toyota is releasing a Final Edition that delivers more steering feel, larger Brembo brakes, and a more direct driving experience thanks to revised suspension and stiffer chassis components. Final Edition Supras can add an optional GT4 Style Pack that makes it known that you're driving a Final Edition, but there are no power increases compared to last year. Beyond the addition of the Final Edition, changes for the 2026 model year are minimal, but so are price increases: the Supra is up only $650 from last year, starting at $58,035 including destination. Every 2026 Supra still has a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-6 shared with BMW that makes 392 horsepower and 368 pound-feet of torque, and each trim level is offered with a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic Toyota reintroduced its iconic sports car to a vastly different world back in 2020. The Supra received incremental updates as well as additional powertrain options over those six years, but by and large there haven't been many changes to its platform that was controversially co-developed with BMW. Those incremental improvements continue into its final year, with Toyota's suspension, chassis, and steering tweaks aimed to sharpen up Supra Final Editions even more than the standard car. Aerodynamic upgrades like a gloss-finish carbon fiber ducktail spoiler, front wheel arch flaps, and higher front tire spats increase the Supra's balance and downforce. Visual upgrades include 19-inch matte black wheels, gloss carbon-fiber mirror caps, and an Alcantara-and-leather seat upholstery that now features subtle red stitching and lovely red seat belts. For the die-hard Supra fans and collectors, the Supra Final Edition will also be offered with an optional GT4 Style Pack that's inspired by the GR Supra EVO2 GT4 race car, though it won't arrive until summer this year. Final Edition Supras equipped with the GT4 Style Pack will feature two additional paint options: Burnout, which is a matte gray, and Undercover, which is matte black. All Supras with the GT4 Style Pack feature jauntily angled GR graphics in front of the rear wheel arches, red mirror caps, a matte black rear Supra badge, and a matte finish for the carbon fiber ducktail spoiler. The GR Supra MkV Final Edition will start at $69,085 including $1,135 destination regardless of transmission choice, and prices for the GT4 Style Pack haven't been announced yet. 2026 GR Supras are expected to arrive at Toyota dealerships in spring of 2025, and production will continue through spring of 2026. Toyota refused to comment on the possibility of a future Supra, so until it declares otherwise, the MkV Supra is The Final Supra. As with all GR models, when you buy a 2026 GR Supra, you get a one-year membership to the National Auto Sports Association (NASA) which includes one free High Performance Driving Event and discounted admission to NASA-sanctioned events. Toyota also said that it will honor warranty claims should a mechanical failure occur during a track event, as long as the vehicle is not being used in a race. The MkV Supra is still a fun car, despite being a dying breed. It, the Mazda MX-5 Miata, Nissan Z, Chevrolet Corvette, and BMW Z4 are the only two-seat sports cars available for less than $70,000 anymore. Most readers have already lived through times when there was no new Toyota Supra on sale, but it's sad to know that we're losing it again. Like an old friend you cherish dearly but don't get to see often, we hope this is "see you next time," and not a final goodbye. Want more like this? You're All Cowards With Terrible Taste For Allowing The Dodge Charger EV To Outsell The Toyota Supra
The Toyota Supra is a fantastic car, but it seems you cowards out there have all hung it out to dry. Last year you abandoned it, letting its sales slump, and this year you've all apparently decided that the Dodge Charger EV is the hot new thing you all want — once again leaving the Supra to rot. As Motor1 first pointed out, you all bought nearly five times as many Chargers as Suprae, which is what we in the business call a "travesty." Toyota moved 421 Supras in the first quarter of 2025, versus Dodge selling 1,947 of the electric Charger. Tell me, honestly: Why? What does the Charger offer that the Supra doesn't? Sure, EV power is cool as all hell, but Dodge's implementation is a lumbering beast that's big enough to qualify as a heavy truck for tax purposes. Is that why you all bought Chargers over Supras? Are you using the car as a tax dodge? Honestly, that might be the only explanation that would make any sense to me. Read more: Judge Takes Away Man's Dodge Charger Hellcat After He Acted Like A Hellcat Owner The Supra is light, lithe, and little. It's an agile and precise sports car that's still comfortable enough to tour with. The Charger weighs 5,838 pounds — more than the 5,680 of a base Chevy Suburban — and sits over 34 inches longer than the Toyota. For all of you who bought a coupe this year, why did you buy that one? Aren't you the ones complaining about modern cars being too big and heavy? Why did you get the big, heavy car? Toyota's flagship sports car isn't long for this world anyway, given the reveal of a Final Edition in Japan at the end of last year and reports of its platform-mate BMW Z4 being discontinued next spring, so it seems inevitable that the Charger would scoop up coupe buyers with time. The Charger is also a brand new offering, while the Supra has been on sale since 2019. It's disappointing, though, to see a masterpiece of a modern sports coupe eschewed for such a hulking brute. Why, coupe buyers? Why have you done this? What did the Supra ever do to you? Want more like this? Join the Jalopnik newsletter to get the latest auto news sent straight to your inbox... Nissan Z Sales Exploded in America in Q1 2025, Blowing Away the Supra
Automakers are in the midst of releasing first-quarter sales results for 2025, and among all the chatter, we noticed something unexpected: Nissan Z sales positively exploded in the first quarter of the year, with the final tally coming to 2154 Zs going out the door. That's more than triple the number of Z sports cars that Nissan sold in the first quarter of 2024 — and more examples than Nissan sold in the coupe's first full year on sale. It's the sort of explosion in sales we've been waiting to see from the very beginning of Z production. Things started mightily slow for the revamped Z, with the first full year of sales (2023) only seeing 1771 copies leave dealer lots. The first quarter of 2025 has already crushed that entire calendar year, so things are looking up. Even compared to the steady growth Nissan saw in 2024, where it sold a total of 3164 Zs, 2025 is trending to destroy that number. And Nissan handily beat its closest natural competitor for sales in this first quarter of 2025, the Toyota GR Supra. Toyota moved a paltry 421 Supras in the first quarter, meaning Nissan sold approximately five Zs for every one Supra that left the lot. That follows the trend of the Z finally surpassing the Supra in total sales last year — but instead of a neck-and-neck race, the Z is wildly outpacing Toyota's sports car. That's not totally surprising, though, considering the Supra is toward the end of its lifecycle, while the Z is still relatively new. The Supra's best year was 2021, where it sold 6830 examples — much more in line with the pace of the Z in 2025. We'll see if Nissan is able to maintain this momentum with the Z as the year soldiers on. There's virtually nothing alluringly new for the 2025 model, outside of the addition of Bayside Blue to the exterior paint palette. The price of every version (Sport, Performance, Nismo) is the same for 2025 as it was for the 2024 model year, but the looming threat of tariffs means there's no guarantee it will remain the same throughout the entirety of 2025.
