Cops bust gang pilfering petro products at Headland-Sada
Vasco:
Mormugao police have busted a ten-member gang involved in pilferage of petroleum products. Diesel worth Rs 1.8 lakh has been seized, along with five oil tankers and three goods rickshaws that were used by the accused to pilfer and transport the petroleum products.
Cash amounting to Rs 22.4 lakh has also been seized.
The gang, comprising Brito Macheal Raj, 49, and Suraj Jaiswar, 27, of Vasco, Vithal Metri, 40, of Navelim, and Muttpa Kangiri, 47, Mohan Patil, 50, Bablu Patel, 22, Gulab Patel, 49, Niraj Patel, 22, Umesh Kumar, 32, and Ramnayan Patel, 28, all residents of Dabolim, was operating behind the Sada sub-jail premises at Headland-Sada, police said.
A complaint was consequently lodged by police sub-inspector, Stanley Gomes, on behalf of the state. All the members of the gang were arrested under various sections of the BNS and the Petroleum Act, 1934, and were produced before the Vasco judicial magistrate first class, who remanded them in one-day police custody.
