Underage bikers and modified silencers on radar in Margao

Margao: The Margao town police launched a renewed crackdown on traffic violations, specifically targeting underage motorcycle riders and vehicles with modified silencers. This is part of an ongoing campaign that commenced earlier this year following complaints by local residents about noise pollution and safety concerns. P olice inspector Suraj Samant said that despite previous police actions, violations continue to persist, prompting the police to intensify the drive. 'The police, over the last couple of months, seized several two-wheelers for violation of traffic rules, mostly pertaining to underage riders, riding without a licence, and modified silencers,' said Samant. 'However, there has been no letup in the situation.' Samant expressed particular concern about parents who allow their minor children to ride motorcycles. 'Despite urging parents not to let their minor children ride bikes, they do not pay heed,' he said. 'When accidents happen, they start blaming others. Parents should ensure that their child doesn't ride a bike without a valid driving licence.' The PI further pointed out that modified silencers attract a penalty of Rs 10,000, which is compounded before the court. 'Yet, people tend to ignore the rules,' he said. Margao police crack down on motor vehicle violations

Margao: The Margao police have intensified their efforts to curb traffic violations in the town, following several complaints from residents about increasing noise pollution and unauthorised vehicle modifications . In a drive on Friday, led by PI Suraj Samant, several vehicles were seized for various violations. During routine patrolling, the police discovered two rent-a-bikes illegally parked on footpaths, causing significant inconvenience to pedestrians, particularly elderly citizens and children. They were operating without valid fitness certificates, raising serious safety concerns. 'The unauthorised parking of these rental vehicles has become a persistent problem in Margao's busy streets, forcing pedestrians to walk on the main road and risk their lives,' said a shopkeeper. These modified silencers have been a source of considerable disturbance for residents, especially during late hours. 'The thunderous noise from these modified bikes has been disrupting our peace. It's particularly problematic for students trying to study and elderly people who need rest,' said Maria D'Souza, a resident of Malbhat. 'The noise can be heard from far away.' The police initiated legal proceedings against all violators under the Motor Vehicles Act. PI Samant emphasised that this drive was part of a larger campaign to restore order on Margao's streets. 'Strict action will continue against violators,' he said. Local civic activists have welcomed this initiative but suggest that more regular enforcement is needed. 'While this action is commendable, we need consistent monitoring to prevent such violations from recurring,' a local civic activist said.

South Goa police check railway stations, illegal hutments

Margao: In response to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, the South Goa police launched extensive combing operations across the district. In Margao, the focus of the police force was particularly on unauthorised settlements and railway stations. On Friday, the Margao police conducted a tenant verification drive in the hutments near the Konkan Railway station at Aquem. The operation revealed glaring illegalities in the area, including unauthorised construction and dubious occupancy. Margao police inspector Suraj Samant, who led the operation, told reporters that while some residents completed tenant verification forms, many could not be verified as they were absent during the inspection. 'The entire settlement appears to be illegal,' Samant said. 'The property owner constructed unauthorised huts and provided power and water supply through a single meter connection, raising serious security concerns.' The inspection, conducted in collaboration with electricity department and public works department officials, resulted in the immediate disconnection of power supply to the settlement. Margao police said they would write to the Margao Municipal Council seeking demolition of these unauthorised structures. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trade Bitcoin & Ethereum – No Wallet Needed! Meanwhile, the Konkan Railway police heightened security measures at the Margao railway station , implementing stricter checking procedures for passengers and luggage. Police urged residents to cooperate with the ongoing security measures and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
