Pregnant women can now avail special services at govt hospitals thrice every month

Patna: Now the state will have Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA) day thrice every month, instead of twice. Under this initiative, pregnant women are given special services at govt hospitals, including the required prenatal check-ups.
Through this initiative, the health department plans to identify high-risk pregnant women and ensure their safe delivery.
As per an official press release from state health minister Mangal Pandey, more than nine lakh pregnant women participated in the PMSMA day in 2024-2025, when they were given the necessary prenatal services, including primary health check-ups, laboratory tests and ultrasounds. This day is observed on 9th and 21st of every month, but now on the services under PMSMA will also be given on the 15th of each month.
"High-risk pregnant women will be identified, and their timely referral will be ensured. This initiative will keeping them safe from the risks during delivery," said Pandey, adding his department was focusing on quality health services. Capacity building of doctors and nursing staff is being done, and the quality of delivery rooms in the govt hospitals is being improved, he said.
