UP Cabinet okays 20% quota for ex-Agniveers in police, fire service hiring
The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet on Tuesday approved a proposal to provide 20% reservation to former Agniveers in direct recruitment to the state police force, including the Pradeshik Armed Constabulary (PAC), Mounted Police, and the Fire Services. Like ex-servicemen, former Agniveers will also get a relaxation of three years in the upper age limit based on their service duration. The decision was taken in a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Talking to the media after the meeting, Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna said the Agnipath Yojana launched by the Central government 'offers an opportunity for 'patriotic and motivated youth to serve in the Army, Navy and the Air Force'. 'The primary objective of this decision is to ensure meaningful post-service employment opportunities for Agniveers who complete their four-year tenure under the Agneepath scheme. This not only recognises their service but ensures they can continue contributing to the nation's security infrastructure after their military stint. The reservation will be applicable across all categories — general, scheduled caste (SC), scheduled tribe (ST), and other backward class (OBC). For example, an SC category Agniveer will get the benefit within the SC category, and similarly for OBC and other groups,' he added. The first recruitment batch under this policy is expected to be initiated in 2026, coinciding with the retirement of the first batch of Agniveers. #WATCH | Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath holds cabinet meeting in Lucknow. — ANI (@ANI) June 3, 2025 Several states and central forces have introduced reservation policies for Agniveers with Haryana and Odisha offering 10%. At the time of the launch of the Agneepath scheme, Chief Minister Adityanath had assured that former Agniveers would be given preference in the state police force, including the Pradeshik Armed Constabulary. The move by the Yogi government aims to not only provide career opportunities to former Agniveers but also to bolster the state's security forces with well-trained, disciplined, and motivated personnel, the government said. The Agneepath scheme was introduced by the Central government in 2022 to serve in the defence services — Army, Air Force and Navy — as Agniveers for a period of four years. The scheme includes six months of training, and upon completion, 25% of Agniveers are inducted into regular service based on performance, while the remaining 75% are encouraged to pursue other career opportunities. Minister Khanna said that 10 of the 11 proposals presented before the Cabinet were given approval.

IAF conducts day & night landing drills on Ganga eway in Shajahanpur
Shahjahanpur: In the backdrop of heightened tensions with Pakistan following the terror attack in Pahalgam, the Indian Air Force on Friday (IAF) showcased its might on the Ganga Expressway by conducting a two-hour flypast and landing drill in Uttar Pradesh's Shahjahanpur district. A range of IAF aircraft, including Rafale, SU-30 MKI, Mirage-2000, MiG-29, Jaguar, C-130J Super Hercules, AN-32 and MI-17 V5 helicopter, performed 'touch and go' manoeuvres on a 3.5-km stretch of the under-construction expressway despite stormy weather. The C-130J Super Hercules was the first to touch down, followed by Jaguars and MiGs, while Rafales displayed stunts in the sky. A 3-hour night landing show was held later, from 7pm to 10pm. "The exercises tested low fly-pasts, landings and take-offs during both daylight and night-time conditions," said an official. The Ganga Expressway, stretching 594km from Meerut to Prayagraj and being built at a cost of Rs 36,000 crore, is the fourth expressway in UP with an airstrip and the first in India equipped for night landings, paving the way for round-the-clock operational preparedness. Unlike the Lucknow-Agra and Purvanchal expressways, where similar emergency landing drills were carried out in daytime, the Ganga Expressway is the first to support both day and night fighter jet landings. The air show aimed to validate the expressway's use as an alternative runway during war or disaster. Around 250 CCTV cameras were installed on either side of the airstrip to enable real-time monitoring and quick response in case of any incident. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Play this game for 3 minutes, if you own a mouse Undo There was speculation about postponing the event due to inclement weather, but the drill commenced once conditions improved. IAF jets to make day-night landing on Ganga E-way
LUCKNOW Uttar Pradesh will create history on Friday when Indian Air Force (IAF) fighter jets and transport aircraft will land and take-off during the day and night on the newly-built 3.5-km-long airstrip on the Ganga Expressway in Shahjahanpur, becoming the first state in the country to have night landing facility for fighter jets on an expressway. The air show is being organized to assess the expressway's potential as an alternative runway during times of war or national emergencies. The exercise will be conducted in two phases — during the day and at night — to test the airstrip's night-landing capabilities, according to the UP government. The exercise holds much significance in wake of heightened tension between India and Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack in Kashmir on April 22. IAF fighter jets will touch down and take off from the airstrip in daylight, and thereafter, between 7pm and 10pm. They will perform low fly-pasts at an altitude of just one metre, followed by landing and take-off drills. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath and members of the state cabinet will be witness to this historic moment. 'Notably, this will be the first airstrip in the country designed to support day and night landings of fighter aircraft, making it a strategic asset for defence preparedness. It will also serve as the Air Force's training and rehearsal base,' the statement said. The state government has taken all requite steps for the security of the airstrip by installing around 250 CCTV cameras on both sides. On Thursday, the IAF took over operational control of the airstrip, with personnel from the air force and the UP Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) coordinating efforts.
