Gabriella Carballo on leaving a year of medicine behind for MUPH: 'The risk was worth it'
Gabriella Carballo boldly chose to set aside a year of practicing medicine to pursue her pageantry dreams and join Miss Universe Philippines, where she was crowned Miss Eco International Philippines.
In an event at Surge Gateway on Friday, Gabbi reflected on her journey, sharing that her heart's posture is 'definitely in the right place right now.'
'It's in a good place and I say that because it's really that since before I joined Miss Universe Philippines and until now, not a single thing has changed in the way that I view myself. I'm not saying it hasn't elevated and it also hasn't gone down,' she said.
Gabbi thinks it feels that way because she has been guided to this moment very well.
'I left behind a year of medicine to come here and that was a risk that I had to take but clearly, the risk was worth it because I was able to get a crown and because of that I don't take it lightly and I take this role as really a place to inspire other people that you don't have to pick one. You can do both,' she said.
The doctor and beauty queen will aim for a back-to-back Miss Eco International win for the Philippines after Alexie Brooks won the 2025 title in April.
In a previous interview with GMA News Online, she said that she doesn't feel pressured.
'For me, I think pressure comes when you don't understand your responsibility. And for me, I understand my responsibility very well. I know that I have people to inspire. I know that I do have a wonderful queen to follow up,' she said. —Carby Rose Basina/JCB, GMA Integrated News
