Jonathan LaPaglia's wife speaks out after his brutal axing from Survivor Australia and slams Channel Ten: 'He doesn't deserve this'
The wife of Australian Survivor host Jonathan LaPaglia has broken her silence after his brutal axing by Channel 10. Jonathan appeared to take a dig at his rumoured replacement, David Genat, in an Instagram post made earlier this week as the 55-year-old expressed his hurt at being punted from the hit show. At the end of the lengthy post, LaPaglia wrote: 'Whoever said a blindside is the most humane way to put someone down is an idiot. It hurts like a bitch!' Eagle-eyed fans noted that Genat famously uttered those exact words during an episode in 2019. Ursula Brooks, who has been married to Jonathan for 27 years, made her feelings known in the crowded comments section. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'Humbling to see all the love and outrage for Jonathan LaPaglia on this post,' she wrote. 'It has been horrible to witness the shock and confusion of this decision by Survivor AU from a front-row seat.' Ursula did not mince her words as she tagged the official Survivor Australia account in her comment. 'You did not deserve this and it seems the real tribe has spoken, Jonny,' Ursula said. 'We and the Australian Survivor audience love you.' The Australian TV host, who has helmed the Channel 10 show since its revival in 2016, was inundated with messages of support from his fellow celebrities and reality TV alums. KIIS FM radio host Jackie 'O' Henderson said Jonathan is the 'Greatest Of All Time'. 'It won't be the same without you JLP,' Jackie said with a broken heart emoji. Big Brother winner Reggie Bird typed out several dozen poop emojis and wrote: 'This is absolute bulls**t.' 'King George of Bankstown', whose real name is George Mladenov, said Jonathan is 'the best host in the business'. The Sydney reality TV personality, who found fame on the Australian Survivor "Brains vs. Brawn" and "Heroes vs. Villains" seasons, wrote: '[You] let the game breathe, [were] impartial and iconically hilarious. Your excellent hosting let the Episode 7 tribal council unfold the way it did because you had the skills and experience to just let it happen and let it keep going.' George's comment has been liked just shy of 2,000 times. Meanwhile, American Season 43 contestant Owen Knight slammed the network's decision to fire Jonathan as 'boneheaded.' 'You were phenomenal and I can tell the players loved you. Respect from across the world,' he wrote, while Sydney chef Colin Fassnidge added: 'He is the show.' Jonathan's sign-off all but confirms Genat, a former model turned professional reality TV game player, is stepping into his role. It is no surprise Jonathan is furious after he was sacked via an email from producers at EndemolShine Australia, the company behind Survivor. The Australian TV host, who has helmed the Channel 10 show its revival in 2016, was inundated with messages of support from his fellow celebrities and reality TV alums This was before anyone from Ten had the chance to pick up the phone. The message pinged in his inbox after he had wrapped filming on his last season of Survivor, Australia v The World, which is slated to air later this year. 'He got an email first. That was the initial comms from EndemolShine,' a source said. 'Then a call came from Ten, but by then it was already done. It's really not how you treat someone who's been part of the show for almost a decade.' The decision to break the news via email, described by insiders as 'clinical' and 'cold', has shocked those involved with the show. According to multiple insiders, the decision to replace Jonathan was made well before Australia v The World began filming in September last year, but was kept tightly under wraps to avoid overshadowing the season. 'It was locked in for months,' one spy said. 'They wanted to avoid a backlash during filming and post-production - but now the torches have been lit, and not just in Samoa.' Soon after Daily Mail Australia broke the news of his axing, Jonathan issued a statement confirming he had been dropped - describing his exit as the one blindside he didn't see coming.

Australian Survivor fans slam Channel Ten over treatment of Jonathan LaPaglia after beloved host was fired and replaced - with many saying they'll be switching off: 'Have they lost their minds?'
Jonathan LaPaglia confirmed on Monday that he had been axed as host of Australian Survivor, and now fans are slamming Channel Ten over their treatment of the star. The 55-year old, who has fronted the hit show since 2016, took to Instagram to deliver the sad news, revealing that he was 'blindsided' by the network's decision to let him go via phone call. The comments section of the post was inundated with love for the longtime TV host, as well as hate towards Channel Ten and their decision to sack the beloved star. 'Boo @channel10au, what're you thinking? JLP is the show,' one person wrote. Another added: 'WTAF! Huge mistake by Channel 10. We love you JLP. So sad to see you go!!' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'Getting rid of JLP will surely kill the show rather than bring in new viewers,' one fan penned, adding: 'Do better Channel 10. You clearly have no idea about your audience if you think this is the answer.' 'WTF. No. Nope. Uh uh. No thank you. Have they lost their minds?' another chimed in. 'This is possibly the worst decision in the history of television!' one person ranted. Other fans went so far as to say that they wouldn't watch the show once Jonathan left. 'Channel 10 and @survivorau are going to lose so many viewers due to this choice as in this case the host makes the show great. I personally cannot see myself watching it any longer,' one person admitted. Another added: 'The tribe has NOT spoken!! The tribe wants you back. This is insane. After your final season I'm snuffing out my Survivor watching torch.' 'Nooooooooo!!! I can't watch it without you in it!!!! Heartbroken! This is a disgrace @channel10au,' another fan chimed in. 'What?! That's a joke... you ARE survivor. Won't watch it without you JLP,' confessed another. It comes after Jonathan revealed he would no longer be fronting Australian Survivor after a decade in the role. The TV host will make his final appearance on the upcoming season, Australia V The World, set to air later this year. In a lengthy Instagram post, Jonathan said he was shocked by Ten's decision to let him go, which was first revealed by Daily Mail Australia on Sunday. He also revealed the brutal way the network delivered the news - via telephone. 'Australian Survivor has seen some of the most epic blindsides over the last 10 years, but this one might just be the craziest of them all… because it happened to me,' he began on Instagram. 'I received a call from the Network thanking me for all my hard work and dedication to the show but for next season they are 'going in a different direction,'' he explained. 'Ratings had dipped a bit recently and they wanted to do something drastic to shake things up. So for the first time ever this is not a tribe swap, but a host swap. Yes, you read that right. 'I wish I could say, 'Before we go to vote, tonight is a little different… no one's going home'. But I can't. None of that non-elim bulls**t tonight! Someone IS going home. And with no idol in my back pocket, that someone is me.' 'I have loved and will dearly miss the immensely talented crew, all the crafty players and our loyal sassy audience. I'm a huge fan of this incredible game, always have been, always will be.' 'It has been one of the greatest adventures of my career to helm Australian Survivor, so it is without a doubt the hardest challenge of all to snuff my own torch, but here goes: 'JLP… the tribe has spoken.'' Channel Ten officially confirmed the news in their own statement on Monday. 'Ten can confirm that the upcoming season of Survivor: Australia V The World will be the last series hosted by the formidable Jonathan LaPaglia (JLP),' a spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia. 'JLP has brought a unique blend of authority, intelligence, and empathy to his role as host of Australian Survivor over the last 10 years. Acting as a referee and managing the intense pressure of the game while also acknowledging the human drama unfolding, JLP has been a compelling and memorable figure in the world of Survivor.' The network went on to thank LaPaglia for his contributions, adding: 'We extend our sincere gratitude to JLP for his outstanding contribution over 10 years on Survivor. We wish him continued success in his acting and presenting career.' But while Ten's statement is full of praise, industry insiders paint a very different picture behind the scenes - claiming Jonathan wasn't given the farewell he deserved. 'They didn't even tell him in person,' one insider told Daily Mail Australia. 'It was brutal. After everything he's given to the franchise, he deserved better.' Despite this, the network is forging ahead with a new direction. In what some are calling a risky move, Jonathan is expected to be replaced by Survivor: All Stars winner and former model David Genat - who recently made headlines after winning a whopping US$5.8million (AU$8.7million) on Deal or No Deal Island in the US.

Australian Survivor 2025 champion wins $500,000 in nail-biting finale: 'So happy'
After 47 days of strategic gameplay, brutal blindsides and gruelling challenges, the winner of Australian Survivor: Brains V Brawn II was decided in Monday night's grand finale. AJ Antonios, Kaelan Lockhart and Myles Kuah, who were each originally on the 'Brain' tribe, went head to head following Zara Callianiotis' elimination at the final four. Each of the remaining contestants had played a dominant game, with some fans calling it the "best final three" they've ever seen. They'd been part of an alliance called the 'Post-Graduates' since the beginning of the season and managed to take out their opponents to make it to the end. The episode began with Kaelan winning the final immunity challenge and taking Myles to the final tribal council, leaving AJ devastated. The duo then delivered their compelling speeches to the jury about why they should each win the game, with a majority of the eliminated contestants voting for Myles. Myles received seven votes out of a possible eight and won the title of Sole Survivor alongside the $500,000 prize money. One of the best AU players ever!!! #SurvivorAU — Cisnice (@cisnice123) April 14, 2025 While the Australian Survivor finale was filmed last year, the winner typically only learns about the result when watching the episode on TV. Australian Survivor: Heroes V Villains champion Liz Parnov revealed to Yahoo Lifestyle following her win in 2023 that the reality show had filmed multiple different results. 'We filmed alternate endings for everyone, so I only actually found out that I'd won yesterday,' she explained. 'So it's all very, very fresh.' When asked about how they filmed alternate finales, Liz said the show's host Jonathan LaPaglia read 'fake votes' from the voting urn. 'They can bring in fake votes and read them out, and then they don't show the real votes,' she detailed. 'It's wild.' Channel 10 announced on Sunday that Survivor fans won't have to wait another year for another season to air on TV, thanks to Survivor: Australia v The World. The all-star series will see the best of the best Aussie contestants going up against players from the US, South Africa, Finland and New Zealand franchises. The season was filmed in Samoa last year over just 16 days, making it a much shorter series than fans are used to, as the Australian version typically films for 47 days and the American edition takes place over 26. Despite its short length, a production insider tells Yahoo Lifestyle that it was the 'most thrilling season' that has ever been filmed.
