Crunching the numbers on Relay for Life Wexford as countdown continues to fundraiser's 10th anniversary
Over the past decade, Relay for Life has grown into one of the county's biggest and best-loved fundraisers, uniting survivors, caregivers, families and supporters.
On July 5 and 6, organisers will mark the significant milestone with a weekend of meaningful tributes, family-friendly activities and a renewed call to action in support of the Irish Cancer Society. As always, the event will feature core ceremonies like the Survivors' Lunch, Opening Lap, Candle of Hope Ceremony and the Closing Ceremony.
Relay for Life takes place over 24 hours, symbolising that cancer never sleeps. Teams walk continuously around the track, a visible demonstration of unwavering support for those affected by cancer. Over the course of the weekend, Páirc Charman transforms into the vibrant Relay Village with team marquees, a main stage, the survivors' marquee and all manner of food vendors and children's activities. This year will also feature at special 10 Years of Hope marquee.
This year's event has already seen nearly €85,000 raised, adding to the €1.3 million total that Relay for Life Wexford has contributed to the Irish Cancer Society since its inception.
In 2024 alone, this support has helped to deliver 674 volunteer drivers bringing 67 Wexford patients to and from chemotherapy appointments; 211 nights of in-home care through the Irish Cancer Society's Night Nursing service; 539 counselling sessions; support for 409 individuals through the freephone cancer nurseline and thousands of free cancer information resources distributed across schools, GPs, hospitals and community groups.
This year will see over 500 participants across 38 teams taking part and the community is well on the way to reaching this year's €100,000 fundraising target.
