What's new in Garmin Connect With a Forerunner 570 or Forerunner 970, athletes receive access to the following features in Garmin Connect, including Garmin Triathlon Coach training plans, custom multisport workouts and past ovulation estimates. Additionally, when athletes add a course to their event in Garmin Connect, they can now enable auto lap by timing gates, suggested finish line and projected race time predictor. Forerunner 570 To help athletes achieve their goals, Forerunner 570 includes advanced running metrics like training status, wrist-based running power and running dynamics, acute load, training effect, performance condition, VO2 max and more. Runners can also view the daily suggested workout that is made specifically for them and that adapts after every run to take into account their performance and recovery, or use Garmin Coach training plans for running, cycling and strength to train for their next event. When running outdoors, athletes can execute their race day strategy using PacePro™ – grade-adjusted pacing guidance – and train with confidence knowing that SatIQ™ technology and multi-band GPS will provide superior positioning accuracy while optimizing battery life. Outside of a run, Forerunner 570 can track key health and wellness stats, including sleep score, Body Battery™ energy monitoring, stress, menstrual cycle, pregnancy and more to help athletes keep an eye on their health. Garmin Forerunner 970 And 570 Upgrade The Best Watch Line, At What Cost?
Garmin Forerunner 970 (L) and Forerunner 570 (R) Garmin has announced the Garmin Forerunner 970 and 570, which are likely to become an important part of the backbone of the entire Garmin range for exercise enthusiasts. These watches might be considered close follow-ups to the Forerunner 965, which has since its release in 2023 been one of the best buys in the Garmin line-up for serious runners. One crucial difference between the two is the Garmin Forerunner 570 does not support on-watch maps. The Garmin Forerunner 970 does. You'll be able to send gpx routes to the lower-end watch, to navigate, but you won't see the roads and other surrounding features on the screen. The Forerunner 970 also gains ECG readings. Look at the back of each watch and you'll see why. Where the Garmin Forerunner 970 has metallic elements around the heart rate LEDs, which act as electrodes using the ECG feature, the Forerunner 570 does not. However, unlike the Vivoactive 6, it doesn't use Garmin's older style of heart rate array. It still gets the additional quartet of green LEDs, used to improve HR readings during tracked exercise. Garmin also upgrades the superficial hardware in the Forerunner 970. Its screen covering is Sapphire rather than Gorilla Glass 3, and the bezel is titanium instead of aluminium. Other additional features include an LED flashlight, and tracking of running tolerance. In practice this means Garmin will suggest a limit of the distance you should run each week. When paired with the new HRM 600 heart rate monitor, you'll also get running economy and 'step speed loss' stats, which Forerunner 570 owners won't see. Outside of this, though, the Garmin Forerunner 570 and Forerunner 970 have a lot in common. They are both OLED screen watches, which Garmin says are the brightest it has used to date. They are packed with advanced exercise features that let them go far beyond the job given to the average casual wearable. And unlike most of Garmin's earlier high-end watches, the Forerunner 970 and Forerunner 570 have a speaker and microphone. This pair lets you take calls with the watch, acting like a Bluetooth headset, use voice commands to control features using the watch's own smarts, or connected to your phone's own voice assistant. 'Created for every athlete who is out there chasing goals and passionate about their data, the Forerunner 570 and Forerunner 970 include innovative training tools, recovery metrics and connected features to help them perform at their best,' says Susan Lyman, Garmin's Vice President of Consumer. The Garmin Forerunner 970 is rated for 15 days of use while the Forerunner 570's battery life varies between the 42mm (10 days) and 47mm (11 days) models. There are no size options with the Forerunner 970 — it's a 47mm diameter watch. Next is the all-important part: the price. The Garmin Forerunner 570 costs $549.99, for either the 42mm or 47mm style, while the Forerunner 970 costs $749.99. The Forerunner 965 is the key comparison point here, and it shows how much the last couple of years have applied pressure to consumer tech pricing. That watch launched at $599, despite being closer to the Forerunner 970 than the Forerunner 570 in feature terms. A fortnight ago, Garmin suggested during an earnings call that tariffs were likely to hurt the affect the business to the tune of $100 million, news that clearly would make Garmin watches that seem a bargain to the consumer less likely than ever. The Garmin Forerunner 970 and Forerunner 570 will be available to order from May 21.

Garmin Fenix And Venu 3 Owners Get A New Health Feature
Garmin ECG app Garmin has unlocked one of its newest features for owners of select watches in the UK and Switzerland, ECG readings. The ECG electrocardiogram feature came to the first Garmin watch in 2023, the Venu 2 Plus, and has finally come to UK users. A handful more watches since have offered ECG-ready hardware, but far from all the models Garmin has released since 2023. These are the watches on the guest list: This news follows Garmin's ECG feature spreading to EU countries and Australia in January 2025. If you own a slightly older Garmin watch, or a lower-end one not on the list, you may be wondering why you miss out. The ECG feature doesn't rely on the same hardware used for a Garmin watch's everyday heart rate readings. There's an additional set of metallic panels on the rear HR sensor array, only seen in the latest and most advanced version of Garmin's Elevate heart rate hardware. This alone is an important clue as to how Garmin ECG works. To take a reading, you place thumb and forefinger on the watch's metal bezel. It effectively completes a circuit through your body, to those contacts resting on your wrist, to allow the hardware to monitor the electrical signals running through your body. It's an effective way for consumer-grade wearables to monitor for signs of arrhythmia, which can be indicative of serious heart health issues. 'During the early stages of AFib, it's common for symptoms to be infrequent, making it difficult to detect in a clinical setting,' says Susan Lyman, Garmin Vice President Consumer Sales & Marketing. One part that may make those without a compatible watch feel less like they're missing out is that Garmin ECG, like other versions of this feature, does require active participation. You need to take 30 seconds or so to deliberately take a reading. Not in the UK or Switzerland? Those in the U.S., Europe, and other countries detailed on the Garmin website, can get access to ECG by setting the feature up in the Garmin Connect app on the connected phone. If this is all old news, you might be more interested in details of Garmin's latest beta software release for Garmin's latest top-end watches, including the Fenix 8. Version 15.23 adds a Multisport category to the Activity list, and introduces an 'arrival alert' when navigating using the watch. However, using the beta software will also disable access to ECG readings, so you may want to wait for the final release of the software instead.

Garmin launches monthly subscription for extra features on its watches
Garmin will start charging a monthly subscription for features in its app. The move marks a dramatic departure for a company that has until now resisted the subscription trend that has overtaken much of the technology and fitness industry. And it marks a major change for users, who will now have to pay $6.99, or the same in pounds, for access to all of their devices' features. The new premium plan is called Connect+, and Garmin says that it will offer 'even more personalised insights to its customers, with new features to help users elevate their health and fitness knowledge'. Some of the new tools are based around AI, and others include training tools and new badges within the app. All of the features currently offered on the Garmin Connect platform will remain free, the company promised. Users will also be able to trial the new tools for 30 days for free, before being asked to pay for them. 'Customers worldwide love using Garmin Connect to track, analyse and share their health and fitness activities,' Susan Lyman, Garmin's vice president of consumer sales and marketing, said. 'We are excited to provide even more personalised data and enriched features with the addition of Garmin Connect+. You can now learn even more about yourself, take on new challenges, train confidently and stay even more connected.' The new tools include AI features that have been branded as 'Active Intelligence' and offer personalised insights based on health data that has been collected by the device. It will initially be launched in beta, and Garmin said it had been engineered to 'help keep users' data secure'. It will also include new performance dashboards for seeing changes over time, more detailed live tracking for followers, more detailed training guidance and new social features. Garmin joins other platforms such as fitness tracker Whoop and active social network Strava in offering extra features for a monthly subscription. Until now, Garmin had resisted doing so, a stance that had been applauded by users who pay something of a premium for the company's devices. Both Whoop and Strava have also explicitly embraced AI tools for exercise, too.
