Siouxland nonprofit inches closer to providing care for terminally ill people
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — A Sioux City nonprofit is inching closer to opening its doors to sick families in need.
Mitchell Hospice House, located in the former Countryside Senior Living building, is described as an 'alternative to a nursing home'. The hospice house will have nine rooms available to people with terminally ill family members and provide around-the-clock medical attention.

The nonprofit hopes to provide a home-like setting for families next month.
'Honestly, I'm thrilled that this is finally happening,' Susan MacFarlane with Mitchell Hospice House said. 'I have been fielding phone calls for the last five years roughly of people that wanted to know if we were open because they have a loved one that this would be perfect for. And having to tell them we don't have it operational yet is heartbreaking. So I'm thrilled that we can be there for the families and the residents.'
Mitchell Hospice House is expected to open its doors to Siouxlanders March 31. It is set to be the first of its kind in Sioux City.
