Mumbai's Friendship Day gets a playful spin with board games
This Friendship Day, Mumbaikars are swapping loud night-outs for dice rolls, strategy cards, and endless laughter at the city's buzzing board game cafés. From classic favourites to quirky new challenges, these cosy hangouts are turning into the ultimate spots where friends bond over battles of wit, fun, and nostalgia—proving that the best memories are made across a shared game board.
'It's not just about coffee anymore, it's about bonding'
The idea is to have a cosy, accessible hangout spot where stepping in for a game and a coffee with your buddies feels like the most natural thing, says Ajay Sachde, founder of a board game cafe in Juhu. He says, 'Indoor games have always been a huge part of our childhood and life in general — from playing carrom and ludo during summer vacations to daily game rituals with friends. From game collectors who suggested rare titles, to regulars who brought in their own games and hosted open-table nights — this community gave our idea life.
It's not just about coffee anymore; it's about bonding, laughter, recharging your spirit and catching up with friends while enjoying fun games.'
'Board games are popular across age groups'
There are no age restrictions at these board game cafes, friend groups of all ages can join in and there's something for everyone. Garima Bagrecha, owner of a board game cafe in Andheri says, 'People really enjoy being away from screens and indulging in board games. Digital detox and having a good time with your friends is possible.
