80-year-old man allegedly shoots, kills man hunting turkeys in California: Sheriff

80-year-old man allegedly shoots, kills man hunting turkeys in California: Sheriff An 80-year-old California man is accused of allegedly shooting and killing another man in what police in Northern California called a "turkey hunting" incident. In a Facebook post Monday, the Sutter County Sheriff's Office said officers were called to the Fremont Wier Wildlife Area in Knights Landing, California on Sunday afternoon. The wildlife area is located around 20 miles northwest of Sacramento. Once police arrived, they found 65-year-old Shawn Parrish with a shot to the back of the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said that John Lee allegedly fired his shotgun into the brush without aiming, "hoping to shoot a turkey." But instead of a bird, Lee allegedly shot Parrish, who was also hunting turkeys at the time. Lee was taken into custody by the sheriff's office on charges of second-degree murder and negligent discharge of a firearm, police said. Records online show that Lee is being held on a bond of $1 million. Local news reports say that Lee's arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday.
