On Friday, the "Jaws" star, 77, took to social media to share a message with his fans ahead of SharkCon in Tampa, Florida and express his disappointment over the diagnosis. Hollywood icon Richard Dreyfuss has shared a heartbreaking health update with fans as he confirmed that he is too poorly to attend this year's SharkCon. The Jaws star, 77, played Matt Hooper in the award-winning Steven Spielberg film, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. In a new clip shared to SharkCon's Instagram on Sunday, Richard was tucked up in a hospital bed with a Jaws blanket. The actor looked pale and appeared to struggle when addressing fans heading to the event. Richard said to the camera: 'Hello fellow cons. I am very, very sorry to tell you that I've been diagnosed with, viral, er… What is it?' Off-screen, his wife Svetlana Erokhin confirmed that he was suffering from viral bronchitis, though Richard struggled to repeat the word himself. He continued: 'I've been told by my doctors I cannot fly and I would have to fly five hours to get there. 'I'm terribly sorry because I had planned to be there [at SharkCon] and I had been looking forward to it, but I am unable to do so. 'I don't want to get anyone else sick, and I don't want to get sicker myself.' He added: 'I feel terrible about not showing up and I feel worse about exposing you to this apparently very viral illness. But there will be other times and I will make it my business to show up. 'Hello fellow cons,' Dreyfuss said from a hospital bed with a 'Jaws' blanket covering him. 'I am very, very sorry to tell you that I've been diagnosed with, viral, er…What is it?' 'Bronchitis,' Dreyfuss' wife, Svetlana Erokhin, answered off-screen. Bronchitis occurs when the airways leading to the lungs get inflamed and fill with mucus, according to Cleveland Clinic. Symptoms include shortness of breath, fever, runny nose and fatigue. Dreyfuss continued: 'I've been told by my doctors I cannot fly and I would have to fly five hours to get there. I'm terribly sorry because I had planned to be there and I had been looking forward to it, but I am unable to do so.' 'I don't want to get anyone else sick,' the actor added, 'and I don't want to get sicker myself.'
