Oulgaret Municipality bags Swachh award for most promising clean city of U.T.

Oulgaret Municipality has bagged the award under the 'Most Promising Clean City of State/UT' category at the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 awards ceremony held in New Delhi on Thursday, July 17, 2025. The Union Territory earned the honour in the 9th edition of what is possibly the world's biggest urban cleanliness surveys, a press note from the Local Administration department said. President Droupadi Murmu conferred the prestigious Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 Awards at a national ceremony hosted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) at Vigyan Bhawan in the presence of Union Minister Manohar Lal and Minister of State Tokhan Sahu. A total of 78 awards were presented across four categories – Super Swachh League Cities; Top 3 clean cities in 5 population categories; Special Category: Ganga Towns, Cantonment Boards, SafaiMitra Suraksha, Mahakumbh and State Level Awards – Promising clean city of State/UT. The award for Oulgaret Municipality was received from the Union Minister in the presence of Srinivas Katikithala, MoHUA Secretary and Roopa Mishra, Joint Secretary-cum-Mission Director, Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) by R. Kesavan, Secretary (LA), along with S. Shakthyvel, Director (LA)-cum-Mission Director (SBM) and A. Sureshraj, Commissioner, Oulgaret Municipality. According to the press note, Oulgaret Municipality earned the national recognition for their cleanliness efforts as the Most Promising Clean City of the Union Territory of Puducherry. The 2024-25 awards that spotlighted the theme of 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle' involved over 3,000 assessors conducting thorough inspections in every ward across the country over a period of 45 days. An estimated 11 lakh households were assessed on urban living standards during the exercise. Under the SBM (U) 2.0, the Union Territory of Puducherry through its Mission Directorate at the Local Administration department (LAD), is implementing six Solid Waste Management projects related to Integrated Solid Waste Processing and Legacy Waste Management in Pondicherry, Oulgaret, Karaikal and Yanam municipalities, Urban Sanitation projects in all five municipalities, including construction of community toilets, public toilets and aspirational toilets, and Used Water Management projects in Mahe and Yanam municipalities, the press note said.

Shillong/Itanagar/Aizawl: Meghalaya's Shillong, Arunachal Pradesh's Jairampur and Mizoram's Lunglei town received awards under the 'Promising Swachh Shehar of State/UT' category during the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 Awards in New Delhi. A total of 34 cities across different states and union territories were selected for this distinction based on their efforts in improving sanitation, waste management, and citizen participation. For Jairampur, the award was received by state urban affairs minister Balo Raja and urban affairs commissioner Vivek Pandey. Jairampur's achievement has been attributed to the dedicated efforts of its urban local body, the unwavering commitment of sanitation workers and active citizen participation. For Lunglei, this accolade adds to a growing list of achievements since it first participation in 2016. Officials said Lunglei's success stems from a strong focus on community engagement, consistent sanitation drives, and adoption of innovative practices in waste management.

1/6 Indore retained the 'cleanest city' position for the eighth time in a row in the government's annual cleanliness survey. The top position was followed by Surat and Navi Mumbai. Indore was declared the cleanest city among 'Super Swachh League Cities' by President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday, as the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 Awards were announced. While Indore has once again been declared the cleanest city in India, securing the top position for the eighth consecutive year, Surat has been recognised as the second cleanest city in the country. In the 2025 rankings of India's cleanest cities, Visakhapatnam secured the 4th position. Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh has been recognised as the fifth cleanest cities in India in 2025. While it hasn't consistently held the 5th position, it has achieved top 10 rankings in the Swachh Survekshan surveys, including the 3rd position in 2021. In the 2023 rankings, Vijayawada was placed 6th.

NEW DELHI: Indore has retained the coveted cleanest city title in India despite it competing in the special category 'Super Swachh League' category created this year to recognize and reward towns consistently demonstrating excellence in sanitation and waste management. The announcement was made on Thursday as part of the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 Awards. Indore won the Swachh Survekshan title last year for the seventh time in a row. The "Super Swachh League" category, introduced this year, recognizes cities that have consistently ranked among the top three in the Swachh Survekshan rankings for at least three consecutive years. In the same special category - cities with population more than 10 lakh - Surat bagged the second position, followed by Navi Mumbai and Vijayawada. Noida clinched the top spot in the '3 to 10 lakh population' group, while New Delhi emerged as the leader in the 'cities with populations between 50,000 and 3 lakh' category. President Droupadi Murmu conferred the Awards at a function hosted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) in New Delhi. In the 'Swachh Shahar' (clean city) category for cities with more than 10 lakh population, Ahmedabad stands the first position followed by Bhopal and Lucknow in the annual survey. In total, 43 awards were announced, with a special recognition for Mahakumbh.
